PSA: Headline inflation o pagtaas ng presyo ng mga produkto at serbisyo, bumagal pa nitong Oktubre
Transcript
00:00 The so-called headline infection, or the rise in the price of products and services in the country this October,
00:08 has been slowing down, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.
00:11 But despite this, the government is continuing to make progress to ensure that there is sufficient production of food until next year.
00:21 This is what Clayzel Partilia wrote.
00:26 Since September, the price of products and services in the Philippines has increased by 6.1%.
00:32 The inflation rate this October has decreased by 4.9%.
00:36 The Central Bank of the Philippines' forecast is 5% lower.
00:42 According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, the price of some foods, such as rice, vegetables, and meat, has decreased.
00:50 The price of food, household goods, and other products and services has also decreased.
00:56 The Finance Department said that this is a result of the rapid and timely action of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.,
01:04 when the price cap on rice was implemented and the demand for pass-through fees was suspended.
01:11 The PSA thinks that the inflation rate could increase if there are no problems with some primary purchases, such as rice.
01:20 The inflation rate, as we are seeing it from the data, is that the direction is going down.
01:28 Eight of the 13 commodity groups are really going down.
01:32 So unless there is another shock, one particular potential shock would be coming from the price of rice as we saw in September.
01:42 But the Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura forecast that the price of rice could possibly increase.
01:48 The price of rice per kilo in Pangasinan, Isabela, and Nueva Ecija has reached Php. 28 to Php. 30
01:57 because of the pest control in their rice fields.
02:00 We are also expecting a record high in harvest.
02:04 But others were hit by the steam boiler, in which you can see that there is rice, but there's no content.
02:16 So the harvest is expected to drop 15 percent from Php. 6.
02:28 In the Gonoy Public Market, the price of well-mealed rice increased to Php. 5,
02:33 which is around Php. 45 to Php. 55 per kilo.
02:37 This month, the price should drop because it's harvest time.
02:43 But what happened is that we are short of rice.
02:48 When we ordered 100 bags, they gave us 80 bags.
02:51 The rice is around Php. 25 to Php. 26.
02:57 How much did you eat?
02:59 Around Php. 2.4.
03:02 That's why Sonny bought a bag of rice that costs Php. 48.
03:08 It's been two weeks since the price of rice dropped.
03:12 We were happy because we had Php. 45, but now you can only see Php. 40.
03:17 It's sad because the price has increased again.
03:19 Some traders want to get more local supply, so they're increasing the quantity.
03:27 We're looking at it and if we can see anyone manipulating,
03:32 that's the value of our harvest.
03:34 Secretary Chu Laurel said earlier that the investigation is ongoing
03:41 in the areas that are being harvested.
03:42 The DA is confident that the pestilence in their rice fields is small
03:47 and that the rice supply will be stable until next year.
03:52 This won't affect our overall production in the province of Isabela and in Region 2.
03:59 Our Regional Crop Protection Center is also in action.
04:04 We expect that our local production will be good
04:07 and we can reach 20 million metric tons or more in the duration of the year.
04:13 Despite this, the DA does not ignore the negative effects of El Nino on food production
04:20 until next year.
04:22 They are working on a way for the government to be able to buy,
04:28 such as expanding the food stamp program next year
04:32 and recommending the expansion of lower prices for rice, corn, and meat.
04:39 In order to lower the food price, the finance department is urging
04:44 the delivery trucks with agricultural products to not consume higher toll fees.
04:50 The distribution of free rice, fat, and other farm input
04:55 should be increased so that the production of rice will increase and the income of farmers will increase.
05:00 The investigation will also be conducted in warehouses
05:03 and the manipulators will be held accountable for the supply and price of the main products.
05:09 Klaizal Pardilia for the people.
