00:02 - Ben, let's talk some NFL action here.
00:04 No, not necessarily who's gonna win this weekend
00:07 and what the opening numbers are,
00:08 but how about some MVP quality quarterbacks here?
00:12 And pretty much this is a quarterback list.
00:13 I'm gonna start with a couple players here on this list,
00:16 which obviously Patrick Mahomes may be playing
00:18 on the best team in football.
00:19 Same thing with Jalen Hurts.
00:20 They're one, two at the FanDuel Sportsbook right now
00:22 in the odds market race, plus 240, plus 320 respectively.
00:26 But how about this?
00:27 Lamar Jackson coming in third place right now
00:29 on the FanDuel Sportsbook at a five to one price.
00:31 Man, he's been lighting it up.
00:32 Not necessarily.
00:33 His football team has been lighting it up
00:35 and he's sort of passed the baton to the running backs
00:38 inside the five and not ballot stuffing for himself.
00:41 Going, "Hey, you know what?
00:42 I'll keep this for myself and run it in,
00:43 or I'll just throw a touchdown pass here."
00:45 The reason I'm bringing this up is
00:47 this is such a unique marketplace this season
00:49 because typically we'll see like seven or eight players.
00:51 Anybody can win it,
00:52 but you can also lay up the game plan.
00:54 Like, yeah, he's got a ton of touchdown passes.
00:56 The team is good here.
00:57 You look behind it.
00:58 Tua Tagovailoa is fourth in line.
01:00 There's so many question marks about the Miami Dolphins.
01:03 We're not questioning Tua's statistical advantages
01:05 that he has in that offense,
01:06 but we question that team in big environments
01:08 where they lose every time they step up here.
01:11 Joe Burrow had a terrible start to the season,
01:13 but now here come the Cincinnati Bengals
01:15 and he's at a nine to one price.
01:17 Josh Allen on roughly a 500 football team is sixth in line.
01:21 Usually you would get knocked down a few pegs by saying,
01:24 "Boy, they're underperforming," but not necessarily.
01:26 If you take out Mahomes and Hertz, Ben,
01:29 where are you looking this NFL season to say,
01:31 "You know what?
01:32 This guy has a realistic chance to win MVP this year."
01:35 - Yeah, Donnie, I don't know if you can take out
01:37 Mahomes and Hertz.
01:39 For me, it's still Jalen Hertz at plus 320.
01:42 I think when you look at Patrick Mahomes,
01:44 I think that narrative of just being a little bit
01:47 of voter fatigue, getting this guy his third MVP award
01:51 in the last five years might come out to rear its ugly head.
01:54 Not that he might not be deserving of it,
01:56 but the numbers for Patrick Mahomes
01:58 haven't been necessarily sensational.
02:00 They are not offensively for Kansas City.
02:03 He threw for two touchdowns against the Dolphins,
02:05 but 185 yards.
02:08 Jalen Hertz only just a tad over 200
02:11 on Sunday against Dallas, but prior to that, Donnie,
02:13 had thrown for 300, I believe, in three consecutive games.
02:17 If I was going to look anywhere outside of the top two,
02:20 it would be Joe Burrow.
02:21 At nine to one, he is starting to come back.
02:24 And Donnie, there's still nine games remaining.
02:26 So a lot could be put up statistically
02:29 by any of those quarterbacks you see on your screen.
02:32 But as the Bengals come back,
02:33 so too does Joey B, finally healthy.
02:37 But Donnie, he's in a hole,
02:39 so is the Cincinnati Bengals, right?
02:41 The Bengals were digging themselves a hole as well.
02:44 You look at some of the numbers for Joe Burrow.
02:47 He has less passing yards than Baker Mayfield,
02:50 Dak Prescott, Brock Purdy, Derek Carr so far this season.
02:54 He has the same amount of passing yards as Mac Jones.
02:58 He has 12 touchdown passes to four interceptions.
03:01 The numbers at this moment are not MVP caliber for Joe Burrow
03:06 but the numbers are starting to get there.
03:08 Nearly 350 on Sunday night against Buffalo
03:12 with two passing touchdowns.
03:13 And Donnie, this is a narrative award.
03:16 If the Bengals do what they did a year ago,
03:18 digging themselves out of a hole
03:20 and rattling it off 10 wins in their final 12 games
03:23 that Joe Burrow was the main reason why
03:25 he will be in the MVP consideration.
03:28 But if the stats don't catch up, Donnie,
03:30 then it's going to be hard to look past Aima Holmes,
03:33 A-Hertz, maybe even a Tua Tungabailoa.
03:35 But I believe Miami's lack of success
03:37 against the best teams in the NFL
03:39 will also play into that narrative component
03:41 for Tua as well.
03:43 - You know, when you take a look here
03:44 and you say to yourself, you know,
03:45 typically an MVP race,
03:46 I always bring up Major League Baseball.
03:48 Do something historic, win historic prizes, right?
03:50 Lead the league in home runs
03:51 but break a record while doing it.
03:53 You know, bat 400, let's just say at that point.
03:55 Nobody's setting historic highlights here
03:57 out of the quarterbacks.
03:58 Patrick Mahomes having a down season statistically for him.
04:01 Typically it's like, hey, look,
04:01 he's on pace to throw 60 touchdowns.
04:03 We'll see how high he gets.
04:04 Jalen Hertz isn't probably going to rush
04:06 for 20 touchdowns here
04:07 and also throw for another 35, right?
04:09 So when you sort of knock it down,
04:11 there's only one guy that's actually set up
04:13 for a historic pace.
04:14 I know he's a running back.
04:15 It's Christian McCaffrey at 29 to one.
04:18 So if we get everybody else just doing their average
04:21 and McCaffrey in the 49ers hit the gas pedal,
04:23 he's the reason and setting records
04:25 by scoring consecutive touchdowns.
04:27 Maybe he gets a bump up in that market
04:28 because right now nobody's running away with it.
04:31 Let's see if maybe a long shot can creep in.
