The air quality in Delhi dipped to the severe category on Wednesday morning after clocking a slight improvement a day earlier. The situation has worsened in Mumbai too since it joined Delhi among the world's most polluted cities last weekend. A blanket of toxic smog covers Delhi and its surrounding cities with authorities shutting schools and banning trucks and construction activities. The overall air quality index (AQI) in Delhi was recorded at 418 this morning, with some of the worst-affected areas being Punjabi Bagh (460), Narela (448), Bawana (462), Anand Vihar (452), and Rohini (451). Mumbai, which was among the world's most polluted cities on Sunday, recorded an AQI of 165 this morning. Watch the people react to the crisis.

00:00 The White House cautioned Israel on Tuesday against reoccupying Gaza after Prime Minister
00:06 Benjamin Netanyahu suggested that Tel Aviv can consider to have the overall security
00:11 responsibility in Gaza for an indefinite period once the war is over.
00:17 "Our viewpoint is that Palestinians must be at the forefront of these decisions and Gaza
00:23 is Palestinian land and it will remain Palestinian land," State Department spokesperson Vedant
00:28 Patel said during a press conference.
00:30 "Generally speaking, we do not support the reoccupation of Gaza and neither does Israel.
00:35 Secretary of State Antony Blinken was fairly clear about that during his travels as well,"
00:40 he said.
00:41 White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby reiterated the U.S. opposition
00:48 to the reoccupation of post-war Gaza.
00:51 The president still believes that a reoccupation of Gaza by Israeli forces is not good.
00:56 It is not good for Israel, it is not good for the Israeli people," he said.
01:01 The White House's latest warning comes after Netanyahu on Monday said that Gaza should
01:06 be governed by those who don't want to continue the way of Hamas.
01:10 Before adding, "I think Israel will for an indefinite period have the overall security
01:14 responsibility because we have seen what happens when we don't have it."
01:19 This was one of the first hints Netanyahu has given about his vision for a post-war
01:23 Gaza and suggests a divergent view from that of the U.S., including U.S. President Joe
01:28 Biden's own statements about what the future of the Strip would look like.
01:32 U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken last week pushed the Israelis for a humanitarian
01:37 pause to allow hostages and civilians to leave Gaza and for aid for Palestinians to enter,
01:44 but was rebuked by Netanyahu.
01:46 Despite Blinken's forceful public message that civilians should not suffer the consequences
01:52 for Hamas' inhumanity and its brutality, Israeli forces continued to strike civilian
01:57 sites in the wake of the top U.S. diplomat's visit.
02:01 The forces claimed that the sites were being used by Hamas.
02:05 The Israeli military has bombed Gaza and is scaling up ground operations in response to
02:09 the October 7 attack by Hamas militants, who killed 1,400 people in Israel and seized around
02:14 240 hostages, according to Israeli authorities.
02:18 The Hamas royal health ministry has said the death toll in Gaza has surpassed 10,300 people.
