00:00 Now, some of the votes are still being counted as Republicans and Democrats sort out to see
00:04 who is going to have the majority in the House of Delegates because it appears the Democrats
00:09 still have the majority in the Senate.
00:11 Our Jake Burns has been following the races for the Republicans, but we start with our
00:15 Cam Thompson who's been following what's at stake for the Democratic Party tonight.
00:19 Cam?
00:20 Yeah, and Bill, I'm going to have to sort of maybe change what I was going to be saying
00:25 here as we are just about to have an announcement here.
00:29 We are just seeing a lot of the House of Delegates elects coming into the stadium here, but before
00:34 they walked in here, just sort of an overall joyous atmosphere.
00:38 And I'm just going to pause here so we can listen in on what they're about to say with
00:42 that is House Minority Leader or potentially change here, Don Scott, standing on stage.
00:47 Everybody got me okay?
00:49 All cameras picking me up well?
00:52 All righty.
00:53 So I'm going to introduce our next speaker.
00:55 In one second.
00:56 In one second.
00:57 All righty.
00:58 Get to go.
00:59 Good.
01:00 You ready for the people to introduce you?
01:01 You, me, the people.
01:02 All righty.
01:03 So I would like to introduce House Democratic Leader Don Scott.
01:04 All right.
01:28 Well, today, the people of the Commonwealth of Virginia have spoken.
01:48 And what they said was we won't go backwards.
01:52 What they said was we believe in freedom.
01:55 That nobody has the, they don't have the blueprint for freedom.
01:58 We have the blueprint for freedom in the Democratic Party.
02:06 Michael Fagans in Virginia Beach.
02:13 Isn't it appropriate that the 51st seat would be Michael Fagans, a 20-year Air Force veteran,
02:21 a Master Sergeant, retired, that raised his right hand to throw his name in the ring because
02:27 he saw the Commonwealth going the wrong direction.
02:31 And he said, "No, no, no.
02:32 That's not the freedom that I fought for.
02:35 So I have to come and raise my right hand so I can protect the freedoms that I fought
02:39 for."
02:40 And tonight, we believe that Michael Fagans is victorious and he's the 51st seat in the
02:45 Commonwealth of Virginia.
02:46 He's the seat that will flip the house from red to blue.
02:55 We've been telling y'all, we have been telling y'all, and we have been telling y'all.
03:01 And you've been listening to a former Democratic minority leader in the House of Delegates,
03:06 Don Scott, claiming victory, claiming that 51st delegate seat.
03:11 So in a sense, if that holds up, he could be House Speaker, Don Scott.
03:15 Let's check in now with our Jake Burns, who's been following the Republicans' efforts this
03:19 night and what they are talking about.
03:22 Jake.
03:23 Well, yeah, Bill, I would beg your guess that most Republicans are not yet to jump to that
03:29 conclusion that the minority leader, former minority leader at least, just made.
03:33 However, we were closely watching some of the races around central Virginia, specifically
03:38 how Republicans would fare in the Richmond suburbs.
03:41 And most of those in those cases in the competitive races, they did not fare that well.
03:46 We were actually right here at the watch party for state Senator Shaban Donovan and House
03:51 candidate Riley Shia.
03:53 Both races, as Bill mentioned earlier, have been called for their Democratic opponents.
03:57 Now the race anchored in Petersburg that we also mentioned, where Republican Kim Taylor
04:01 was facing Democrat Kimberly Adams, Pope is close, but it does appear that Adams has the
04:06 lead there.
04:07 All of these races are ones that were really competitive heading into Election Day and
04:12 that Governor Glenn Youngkin also campaigned very closely for those three candidates.
04:18 One GOP source here tonight at the party told me they have to find a way to better get voters,
04:23 their voters locked in on early voting, despite efforts that were made by Youngkin and the
04:27 party during this campaign to do just that.
04:30 Again, you heard Democrats are celebrating.
04:32 It isn't necessarily a landslide win, though, so it remains to be seen what, if anything,
04:37 Youngkins will try to glean out of the results this evening.
04:41 For her part, Senator Donovan was here.
04:43 She addressed reporters and her supporters.
04:46 She's not conceding the race just yet, saying she wants to wait until the morning to make
04:50 a final call on that and final decision there.
04:53 But she did say that she's proud of the campaign that she ran.
04:57 Our message, our positivity, our vision, I'm on track.
05:02 I'm so proud of the eight years I've had in the Senate and the things that I've been able
05:05 to do that are reasonable and consensus building for Virginia.
05:09 I know that's what we need more of.
05:11 And so we'll do an analysis and look at this and see what it says.
05:14 But no, I am 100 percent proud of my campaign.
05:18 It was perfect.
05:23 Governor Youngkin attached himself to candidates like Donovan across the Commonwealth.
05:27 We have not yet heard from him tonight.
05:28 It will be interesting to see what he says about these results.
05:32 For now, reporting live in Henrico County, Jake Burns, CBS 6.
05:36 All right.
05:37 Thank you, Jake.
05:38 So, so far we know the Democrats are claiming that 21st seat in the Senate, maintaining
05:42 control there.
05:43 And you heard Don Scott earlier, the former minority leader for the Democrats in the House
05:47 of Delegates, saying Democrats have taken that 51st seat and with that control of that
