Shy cat finally makes a friend

00:08 When I asked the rescue who had been there the longest, Moe's really stuck out to me
00:12 because she'd been there almost a year, which is a really long time.
00:16 Oh yeah.
00:17 I'm so experienced with fostering, I really felt like it was my responsibility to bring
00:21 home an animal who was getting passed over by adopters.

00:29 Moe's was super, super shy.
00:32 You're doing so good.
00:35 Look at that.
00:38 For two weeks, Moe's hid in, we have a little loft space that looks over the living room.
00:42 I'll be honest, how shy she was freaked me out a little bit.
00:46 My best guess is that she had some sort of traumatic experience with humans.
00:56 Dunder went right up there, sat next to her, never left her side, and made her feel comfortable
01:02 until one day I saw her out of the corner of my eye coming down out of the loft into
01:07 the living space, and she never looked back.
01:16 She has really blossomed.
01:21 Moe's is our sassy cat, for sure, whereas Dunder is our sort of nice, lovey-dovey.
01:25 Just though I'm with the attitude, but in a very lovable way.
01:29 She's never grumpy.
01:30 She will tell you when it's dinner time.
01:32 She has no problem reminding you.
01:38 She has a ton of energy.
01:39 I have seen her do back flips, literally, for a toy.
01:45 And most of all, she is the biggest cuddler, not with me, but with Dunder.
01:50 I see her sneak up on him all the time while he's napping and scooch into his bed so the
01:55 two of them can snooze together.
02:05 I'm going to have her forever, but because of her traumatic past, she's having a harder
02:09 time connecting with me versus Dunder, so we're taking it slow.
02:14 I did this really funny thing where, because she's not really keen on me petting her, I
02:18 actually got this extendable back scratcher so I could scratch her from a few feet away,
02:23 and it's gotten her used to pets, and now she's much more accepting of my pets.
02:31 She follows me around.
02:32 I can tell she likes to be nearby.
02:34 She'll sit next to me on the couch, and she'll purr when she sees me coming, but she's not
02:39 a lap cat.
02:41 And I think that's why she wasn't adopted for so long, is because people really want
02:45 lap cats.
02:46 I'm kind of struggling with that because I do really want to cuddle up with her.
02:49 I just remind myself it's not about me, that it's about giving her a warm and loving home.
02:55 These shy animals, they deserve love just as much as the outgoing ones.
02:58 If I could tell Mo something, I would say she's safe.
