00:00 This police operation started at about 1.30 this morning when police say a black Mercedes
00:07 dual cab utility was driving along the M1 motorway on the mid north coast and shots
00:12 were fired from that vehicle at Coopernook.
00:15 One of those shots hit a driver who was in another vehicle and caused a graze wound to
00:22 his arm.
00:23 Police were then told that shots were again fired from this vehicle at Cunderbunk and
00:30 in two locations at Port Macquarie.
00:32 In one of those locations at Port Macquarie police tried to pull over this vehicle and
00:38 shots were fired at the police car but no one was injured.
00:42 Later in the morning the vehicle in question was then dumped near a sports field in Port
00:48 Macquarie and that vehicle is now being forensically examined.
00:53 Police just recently issued this statement about the description of who they're looking
00:58 for.
00:59 The driver is believed to be a male of Aboriginal appearance, aged between 25 and 35, about
01:05 165 centimetres tall and is of slim build.
01:10 He was seen wearing a dark coloured baseball cap and hoodie and with a backpack and a duffel
01:15 bag.
01:16 There was also a second person, not further described, travelling with that male and we
01:20 believe there's also that male was accompanied by a dog, described as a brown and white dog
01:26 similar to a kelpie.
01:28 Now police are urging people in that local area if they do see these people not to approach
01:34 them.
01:35 They want residents to call the police straight away.
01:38 These men could still be armed so they're urging the community not to approach these
01:42 men.
01:43 As a precaution this morning they've also asked residents in the local area to stay
01:47 inside to keep their doors locked.
01:49 We also understand several schools in the area have had their gates shut and children
01:54 are being kept inside as a precaution.
01:57 As part of this police investigation this morning, police were also called to a welfare
02:02 check in Port Macquarie.
02:04 They arrived to find the body of a man on the side of a road.
02:08 Police won't say at this stage how that man died and they are unable to connect the death
02:14 of this man to the shootings this morning but that is also part of the police investigation.
02:20 Police are just asking again if anyone has CCTV footage or dash cam footage of any of
02:26 these incidents this morning if they could contact police as their investigations continue
02:32 for these two men.
