PDLs sa Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm sa Palawan, tuturuan ng aquaculture at agrikultura
Transcript
00:00 Far from the busy prisons, the Iwahig Prison and Pinoy Farm in Palawan
00:04 is where persons deprived of liberty learn about aquaculture and agriculture.
00:09 We are now with Louisa Erizpe live.
00:13 It is now very evident here in Palawan that the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
00:24 is working hard to reform prisons, particularly to introduce persons deprived of liberty
00:31 to aquaculture and agriculture.
00:34 Far from the busy prisons, the Iwahig Prison and Pinoy Farm in Palawan
00:49 is where persons deprived of liberty learn about aquaculture and agriculture.
01:00 But instead of farmers and fishermen working here, PDLs are the ones who farm and feed the fish.
01:08 The Bureau of Corrections said this is the result of the Memorandum of Agreement
01:13 signed by the Department of Justice and Department of Agriculture last July.
01:19 We are here to help our beloved President in food security.
01:26 So, this is the start so we can produce here and help in the supply of vegetables and rice
01:34 here in Puerto Princesa City and Palawan Province.
01:40 Some PDLs came from New Belivid Prison in Muntinlupa City
01:45 as part of the decongestion program of the government.
01:48 At present, around 1,000 PDLs have been brought to Iwahig from Metro Manila.
01:54 The Bucor admitted that at first, it is difficult to discipline and systemize the new PDLs.
02:00 But because of their continuous training, they are now able to be in sync with the system in Iwahig.
02:06 In December, they are expected to harvest 100 hectares of rice, vegetables, and soy.
02:13 And there are also tilapia after several months of hard work by PDLs.
02:17 They can sell 1,000 bags of rice and vegetables from Iwahig.
02:22 They expect that this will help in lowering the price of goods in the market.
02:28 We are expecting that our rice production will really boost this time.
02:34 The technical knowledge and machineries under the MOAM project
02:40 are expected to help in lowering the price,
02:45 making food sustainable, and providing enough supply because of this project.
02:52 We are expecting that in the next year,
02:56 the land that is being plowed and planted by the Bureau of Corrections or PDLs
03:05 in Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm will be expanded.
03:08 And we expect that this will also help in lowering the price of goods
03:12 because the price of goods is still increasing, especially vegetables and rice.
03:18 So we expect that this will help in lowering the price in the market.
03:23 Naomi.
03:24 Thank you very much, Louisa Erizpe.
