We are continuing to try new things and this time we try a silent disco. But this one is a bit different as we head to Newcastle cathedral to dance away. So let’s see what it was like to have a silent disco in a very historic building.

00:00 Now this is definitely something I did not expect to be doing on a random weekday morning
00:07 but it's something I've always wanted to try.
00:10 Silent discos have become a huge hit with a lot of people over recent years.
00:15 The discos allow you to listen to music through headphones so you can change the channel if
00:20 you wanted to listen to something different.
00:22 When you have the headphones on you're in a world of your own but when you don't have
00:26 them on it can look a bit strange because this is what you hear.
00:40 But we were invited to a bit of a taster session at the cathedral before the main event in
00:44 February next year.
00:46 We thought this is an absolutely iconic location.
00:50 It's an awesome building and just the...
00:54 Everybody needs a bit of joy in their lives right now and it felt like a really great
00:58 marrying of using a fabulous location to bring a really joyous event to the people of the
01:04 North East.
01:05 I know that I need a lot of joy in my life right now because the news cycle is relentless
01:10 and just the chance to come and do something and utilise a building that so many people
01:14 don't step into in a different way really struck a chord with us and we thought that
01:20 was a really great way of bringing some fun and particularly in February when it's dark
01:26 and cold and everybody's a bit fed up.
01:28 So yeah that post Christmas lull before spring breaks out we wanted to bring that light into
01:34 people's lives and get people moving again.
01:37 Of course I couldn't miss a chance to have a bit of a go and dancing to the cha-cha slide
01:41 in Newcastle Cathedral was a bit strange but great fun.
01:50 And others seemed to agree.
01:52 Oh great yes I must admit when I was coming on my way here and climbing the steps out
01:56 the Metro I was thinking to myself 'I'm not as spry as I used to be, I'm definitely not
02:00 as good at it but what a better way to come and actually do a bit of a workout than with
02:04 some great tunes and fabulous atmosphere lighting and so on just to really get you in the mood
02:08 so yeah it's just been wonderful.
02:10 It's a bit sweaty, going to go to the cafe now and kind of relax a little bit with some
02:15 tea and coffee but I've had a good time dancing, looking a bit silly with my headphones on.
02:20 Cathedral's always been brilliant for having multiple different styles of things be it
02:24 you know medieval music, be it up to the number with this and other theatre performances and
02:29 so on that I've seen here so it's just wonderful to come and do something again different but
02:33 just to add to that number of different things that go on here.
02:35 I mean it's definitely a certain portion of people will enjoy it, I don't know if my mum
02:39 would enjoy it necessarily but I think a lot of young cool people would enjoy it, that's
02:47 what I think.
02:48 I think people who've got a lot of energy in them will enjoy it, who want to try something
02:52 a bit different and it's a cool space as well to do it in.
02:56 Hopefully we will be back in this historic building to keep dancing on next year.
