The 12th edition of Rallye de la Matheysine, a round of French Rally Cup held on 25-26 April 1992, was marred by a fatal accident which took the life of one spectator and injured four more.
During one of special stages on Saturday, 25 April 1992, the first day of the rally, one of the competing vehicles crashed into a guard rail, hit several spectators and then fell into the ravine. Five persons were transported to a hospital where one of them - whose name was not reported, but place of his/her residence was said to be Rumilly - succumbed of injuries during the night. The model and make of the car involved have not yet been determined, but it is known that it was a yellow car racing with the numeral 31.
The 1992 Rallye de la Matheysine was won by Jean-Claude Mouchet. Following this accident the rally was not held for two next years.
