00:00 Let's meet another prominent figure of the government
00:03 because of the storm that hit the students of Lumad.
00:08 Here is his story.
00:10 Good evening, Philippines.
00:19 We are given the opportunity to answer your questions
00:23 about the programs and policies of the Civil Service Commission.
00:27 I am your host, Carlo Nograles for CSC in Action.
00:32 Aside from discussing the programs and policies of the Civil Service Commission,
00:37 we would like to share the stories of the government officials
00:43 who were appointed as outstanding government workers
00:46 because of their outstanding contributions
00:49 that had a huge impact on the country.
00:52 For another story of the Civil Service Commission,
00:57 I would like to share the story of an outstanding government worker,
01:01 Aileen B. Añonuevo,
01:04 a Chief Education Supervisor of the Department of Education in Davao del Norte.
01:10 She was named as a CSC Pag-asa Awardee in March
01:16 because of her contribution to DepEd
01:19 to provide access to education for the students of Lumad.
01:24 When she learned that the dropout rate of the students of Lumad in her area was high,
01:29 she made a survey to determine the reason and her knowledge
01:35 that the so-called indigenous children walk 30 kilometers a day
01:41 to get to school and get home.
01:45 Because of her sad situation,
01:49 she proposed a project called Balay Paglaum for the students of Lumad.
01:55 This is a boarding house facility
01:58 that will serve as a temporary residence for the children of Lumad
02:03 while they enter school.
02:05 Because of her perseverance and love for the students,
02:09 this project was realized.
02:12 The Paglaum or House of Hope was built with the help of DepEd,
02:17 Panabo City Government,
02:19 and with the cooperation of tribal leaders and other stakeholders.
02:24 In order to make this facility operational,
02:27 more than 38 IP learners from grades 7 to 12 lived here.
02:35 This project can be said to be successful
02:38 because first, there was no dropout and non-reader in the Paglaum House.
02:45 Second, many have already finished their secondary education
02:50 and some are already in college.
02:53 And lastly, Panabo City continues to provide support for this project.
03:00 Aside from that, many people are also donating supplies,
03:05 providing tutorial services, and scholarship grants for the children.
03:10 All of this is because of the initiative of Ma'am Aileen
03:15 to provide equal access to all children, regardless of their status in life.
03:22 Let's hear what she has to say about this.
03:27 When we say education, it should be fair to all.
03:32 Whatever type of learner, it could be IP, whatever.
03:36 We need to be fair to them and we need to check
03:43 whether all of this type of children or learners were able to access education.
03:49 So the IPs, the IP learners, sometimes they are left behind
03:55 and they are deprived, so we need to take care of them.
04:01 She is a true hero.
04:04 For the children who were helped, she is their hero.
04:10 Kudos to you, Ma'am Aileen, for helping many students.
04:17 We invite you to watch the whole story of Ma'am Aileen B. Añonuevo
04:23 in Lingkod Bayan Diaries that we are releasing on our Facebook page.
04:29 If you have questions about our programs,
04:32 you can contact our office and social media channels.
04:37 You can also contact the contact center of the town.
04:42 Until our next discussion, the issues will be addressed.
04:47 Later first, CSE in action.
04:50 I am your Lingkod Chairperson, Carlo Nograles.
