Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton isn't calling the clash with the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football just another game.
Transcript
00:00 >> Absolutely, anytime you're playing on prime time, and
00:04 I don't know what the numbers are.
00:06 Look, we keep track of stuff Thursday nights, but Monday night,
00:11 I don't know how many games I've had a chance to be a head coach.
00:14 Sunday night, the same way.
00:18 I do remember this, my first year in the NFL was 1997.
00:22 I met the Eagles, tied that man was the quarterback,
00:28 and we had the helmet system.
00:30 And Gruden was in the press box calling the plays.
00:32 I was the quarterback coach, so back then you couldn't go box to player.
00:36 It was only recently that you can now go box to player.
00:40 It used to go box, sideline, sideline into the quarterback, right?
00:44 So I was the, and we weren't quite, from a technology standpoint,
00:51 those headsets would go out quite a bit.
00:53 So we'd have this signal meeting on Saturday night, and
00:57 it stressed me out because John would give me the play and
01:01 the signaling system was exhausting, right?
01:03 And so I spent the whole week making sure the signals were squared away.
01:07 And here it is, Texas Stadium, Monday Night Football.
01:11 This is the first Monday Night Football game I'm involved in as a coach.
01:16 And you have to know Ty Detmer is pretty calm, cool, collected.
01:19 First quarter, headsets are out.
01:21 Gruden's screaming in my ear, and I'm trying to signal the, and so
01:26 when you're struggling, you just kind of walk out and just yell the play out.
01:30 Here's what the play is, and then John's in my ear, Detmer's smiling at me, and
01:33 I'm like, Monday Night Football, Texas Stadium, and the headsets are out.
01:37 So that's what I think of from my first exposure.
01:40 But yeah, I think you're playing in front of a national audience,
01:45 and that means every player's family member, coach,
01:51 significant others that have somehow touched their careers are seeing them play.
01:58 And I think that's something.
