00:00 After six years, eight months and 21 days of imprisonment, former Senator Laila Delima was released earlier.
00:16 And for the last case she is facing, she is the first to commit drug trafficking in the Philippines.
00:21 Delima is determined to get her temporary release.
00:24 The time will come when the truth will be revealed.
00:28 She also has a message for former President Rodrigo Duterte.
00:32 Witness, Chino Gaston.
00:34 The court has already granted the former Senator Laila Delima a temporary release.
00:44 She was brave, she cried and raised her hands.
00:53 She also allowed her former driver Ronnie Dayan and his accomplices to pay tribute to her.
00:59 And her former accomplices were Jhonel Sanchez, Jose Adrian Dera and former Bucor Chief Franklin Bucayo.
01:06 I will have to destroy her in public.
01:08 Delima, you are finished.
01:11 In August 2016, President Rodrigo Duterte accused his critic, Senator Laila Delima, of accepting campaign funds from drugs.
01:22 In February 2017, the Warrant of Arrest was issued for the alleged violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
01:29 I'm here in the Senate, the arresting team is waiting for me.
01:36 Delima was charged with cases related to illegal drug trading.
01:40 But she was previously convicted of conspiracy to trade illegal drugs.
01:45 The first case is linked to the alleged giving of an inmate, Peter Co, three million pesos and vehicles.
01:52 The money was from the illegal drug transaction in the area that Delima was going to use for her campaign as a Senator.
02:01 But in February 2021, Delima was acquitted by the Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court Branch 205 due to lack of evidence.
02:10 The second case is linked to Delima's acceptance of a 10 million pesos income from illegal drug trade in the area to serve as a campaign fund.
02:21 Delima's driver and relationship with her inmate, Ronnie Dayan, is the one who is involved in the alleged transaction.
02:28 The former Bureau of Corrections OIC Rafael Ragos, who served as a state witness to the case,
02:36 was charged with bringing money to Delima's house. But in April 2022, Ragos recanted and reverted his testimony.
02:45 He was forced by the then Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre to accompany the former Senator, which Aguirre refused.
02:53 Before that, Dayan recanted his testimony.
02:57 In May 2023, Delima and Dayan were acquitted by the Muntinlupa RTC Branch 204 in connection with the case.
03:05 Although the Office of the Solicitor General has filed a petition to overturn the decision.
03:11 The third and last case is about the conviction of Delima for illegal drug trade in the area.
03:21 She was convicted of committing a crime of 70 million pesos for her campaign with the help of several inmates and officials of the BuCorp from 2013 to 2015.
03:31 After more than six years in prison in Campo Crame, Delima did not stop her act of innocence in the streets.
03:39 In her decision, Muntinlupa RTC Branch 206 Judge Henner Hito said that Delima and other accused should be allowed to pay their fines because the prosecution
03:50 said that the accused should be held accountable for their guilt. They were allowed to pay a fine of 300,000 pesos.
03:59 I also thank Judge, Honorable Judge Henner Hito for his loyalty to the law and justice.
04:11 Before going to Hito, two RTC judges first held the case.
04:16 Delima also thanked the Marcos administration for their loyalty to judicial independence.
04:22 Delima was first returned to Camp Crame from Muntinlupa City to process her confession.
04:28 Around 7 p.m., she left the PNP Custodial Center.
04:34 She then headed to a hotel where Senator Risa Ontiveros met them.
04:42 At the press conference, Delima said that despite the hardship of the accused in her fight for the law and justice,
04:52 she is still convinced that the time will come when the truth and justice will prevail.
04:58 Not only did I survive all these years of persecution and unjust detention, I came out stronger than ever.
05:07 With an even stronger commitment to truth, justice, human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.
05:16 My first message to former President Rutete is, "God forgive him and God bless him."
05:25 The ex-Senator's family was very angry with the court's decision.
05:30 I'm very proud. She didn't kneel. She didn't bow. She is very, very brave.
05:39 It just shows the independence of the judiciary, what I've always been saying from the very beginning.
05:44 We respect, respected and respect the findings of the previous prosecutors who were tasked to do this job.
05:54 It is not for me to change their judgment or their point of view with regards to this.
06:00 We are also getting the panic of former Justice Secretary Vitalyano Aguirre III, who is the Justice Secretary of the drug case in Delima.
06:08 Senator Bato de la Rosa, who is a close ally of former President Duterte, said that he respects the court's decisions, but he's still wondering.
06:18 I cannot really say with certainty that the case is weak because it withstood the time of President Duterte's term.
06:32 It's now slowly being dismissed and given a bail. I cannot say.
06:39 In an interview, Salvador Panelo, a former member of the Cabinet of Duterte, said that the citizens who forced them to testify are not yet proven.
06:49 Even though their testimonies were not included, there is still strong evidence that shows that the accused, Delima, is guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
