00:00 This adorable house is filled with so many people. Okay, not people. Cats roaming free!
00:07 You have got to see this. I'm here with Delmar. He's one of the cats living in
00:14 Miss Kitty's Cat House and what's incredible is that these cats are not
00:18 living in cages. They're free! Very. We're the only ones that I know of that do that.
00:25 Tell me about Delmar and who's your kitty. This is Piper. She's 11 months old
00:31 and she just came in yesterday. She was found as a stray and a really nice lady
00:37 took care of her. We have, I don't know, a six, four week wait list and she took care
00:42 of him until I could get him in the house. He's about 11 months old and will
00:52 probably not be with us very long. We don't usually get them this young and
00:56 there's quite a few people we'll be calling. Tell me about the mission of
01:00 Miss Kitty's. The mission of Miss Kitty's is to find homes for cats that have been
01:07 abandoned, dumped, left by their owners and to find good homes for them. A lot
01:15 of times people die and they don't have plans in place with families or anything
01:20 so we try to re-home those cats or they go to assisted living and those kinds of
01:26 things or surprise, surprise, the other number one reason is allergies. I had a
01:32 baby and now my baby's allergic. Who goes? The cat. The cat. In my life, the baby goes.
01:37 I knew I loved you. Listen, it's not often I meet somebody who loves cats with the wild
01:46 abandon that I do but I have finally met a cat lady that's up to my level of
01:52 cat ladiness. And I have two of my own and two big dogs so I'm never gonna be
01:56 the crazy cat lady because my dogs don't want them and my one cat, my male cat, he
02:01 has his woman and no other cats coming in that house. Well this house itself is
02:06 beautiful. Tell me about the backstory. The quick backstory is it was a boarding
02:15 house for the men that worked on the railroad. Railroad was real big in
02:18 Prescott and I only just learned that a few months ago and then this lady up on
02:25 the wall, her name was Beth, left us the money to buy a facility to house cats
02:31 because they were in a really run-down old crummy building. Incredible. So Angel
02:36 Beth left the money? Yes. Her picture's right up there on the wall. She left us
02:41 enough money in those days, probably 100 grand, 150, because we bought this in
02:46 2009 I think. Wow. But they gutted it. I didn't start working as a
02:52 volunteer with Miss Kitty's. We moved here in 2013. So there are people that,
03:00 we were originally established 23 years ago by four ladies and it was in an old
03:06 run-down house, blah blah blah, and then we got the money to do this and they
03:12 gutted it. That cat loves you. Yeah. Let me ask you about the generosity of the
03:20 people here in Prescott because everything that you do is based on
03:24 volunteerism. Mm-hmm. Yep, we only pay the bookkeeper a salary, no one else gets a
03:29 salary. I come and everybody, the other people come and there's almost always
03:35 donations on the porch. They leave food, they leave cat trees, they leave litter
03:41 boxes. Once or twice only in the last four years that I know of have there
03:45 been cats left, which surprises me because all the local shelters are full.
03:51 How can people find a cat that they may want to adopt? They can go on our website
03:57 MissKitty'sCatHouse.com and there's a all sorts of information and there's a
04:02 blurb in there, "adoptable cats" and it now has our kittens and our full-grown
04:08 cats on there. Well thank you. And there's also a tag where they can donate if they
04:13 want. We are strictly donation driven. If you have something you'd like to donate
04:18 or if you need a new cat. Or if you need a tax donation, we accept money. Exactly,
04:24 all monies are accepted here. Yes, put to good use. This beautiful cat house
04:30 doesn't come for free. Thank you so much for all you do and thank you for
04:33 having us. Thank you for the interview.
