Biggest Takeaways From Bengals' Loss to Texans
Transcript
00:00 Let's start with your biggest takeaway. The biggest topic or topics that are on your mind
00:06 right now following yesterday's loss. So I guess there's three things. First of all,
00:11 I expected them to win when they got the ball back down 27, 24. I mean, you know, going
00:18 into the game when, when, when they scored and got the ball back, I thought they're going
00:23 to win. And if Tyler Boyd catches that pass in the end zone, they probably do. I guess
00:26 there's three things. Number one, if, if I, and I, I invite fans to do this. I'm not sure
00:33 many will, but if I sort of, okay, let's look at this from a 30,000 foot view to me yesterday
00:40 was about the Houston Texans. It was about a franchise that should feel really, really
00:45 good about the direction they're going. And they finally have their coach and more important,
00:49 they, they, they can finally move on from Deshaun Watson, right? Like who was going
00:53 to replace him? You know, CJ Stroud was not perfect yesterday. And if you're like me,
00:57 you thought, okay, at some point he's, he's not going to go the rest of the year without
01:01 throwing a pick. He's going to throw one at a big time. And he did, but they got their
01:04 guy, man. And yeah, we can talk about what the Bengals couldn't do upfront on defense,
01:09 but the ease with which they move the ball, they were the better team yesterday.
01:12 You know, they're not there yet, but they got their guy at QB man, after watching what
01:18 he did last week and you know, he's not immune to growing pains. I watched the Carolina game,
01:23 but you know, just in, in watching some of the stuff nationally, it just, it feels to
01:31 me like yesterday was more about the Houston Texans. So, you know, it was a disappointing
01:37 effort. Do we have to talk about what's going to happen now with maybe without Trey Hendrickson?
01:42 Sure. Why are they so clunky on offense after that first drive? All legitimate, legitimate
01:48 topics. But I think like the story of the game was more like the Texans are going in
01:54 the right direction, man. So I'll start with that. Then the game itself, like there was
02:00 a lot of, there were a lot of like outlier sort of things like Joe Burrow, isn't going
02:07 to turn into an interception machine. Tyler Boyd will catch that pass that he dropped
02:12 nine out of 10 times, if not more frequently, you know, typically, Hey, we're, we're tied
02:20 at 27. Let's get a stop so we can go to overtime. I'll trust a Luanna rumo coach defense now.
02:26 Okay. Why were they so bad without Sam Hubbard? What's going to happen maybe now without Trey
02:30 Hendrickson fair and legit, but you know, it just, it felt like the results of the game
02:37 was the combination of like a lot of just sort of weird stuff that you don't typically
02:41 expect to happen with this era of Bengals football.
02:47 But then there's how much are we going to look back on yesterday and go, God, that was
02:52 the game that kept them from making the playoffs, winning the division. Like now we've been
02:58 since you know, week two, we've circled this game against Baltimore, right? Well, it's
03:02 going to be really tough. Even if they blew a 14 point lead yesterday, now it's a must
03:07 win. If you want to win the division, now you have to win this game. And frankly, to
03:11 make the playoffs, do you want to be talking about this team playing at five and five with
03:15 the Pittsburgh team that just figures it out somehow every single week coming into town?
03:20 I don't. I said to a couple of my colleagues yesterday, like what, what that loss did is
03:27 it amplified the importance of going on the road and winning on a short week against Baltimore,
03:31 which is not going to be easy and was never going to be easy. And now it's much more of
03:36 a must than it should have been. Had they won yesterday.
