In Uganda 30,000 girls drop out of school annually, often simply because it’s hard for them to reach their school. An organization helps girls to get an education by providing them with bicycles.

00:00 A small but significant change has made morning's roll more smoothly for girls from Uganda's
00:12 Jinja community. Sharifa Babirye used to walk for hours on end. Now she zips to school on
00:18 her new NGO-donated bicycle. It's a climate-friendly solution and she always gets there on time.
00:24 "Those days I came to school late, but now I come to school early because of the bicycle."
00:31 Even when it's dark and rainy, most students in rural Uganda have to trek several kilometres
00:36 to and from school every day. That time is lost that could be spent on lessons or study.
00:42 Some even end up dropping out of school altogether, especially girls. That's why the NGO Fabio
00:48 is providing girls with bikes.
00:51 "As they walk long distances to access schools, they find challenges. For example, men who
00:58 seduce them into some other things and they end up conceiving and going out of school."
01:08 The girls are safer on the roads and they have more energy at school. Plus, bikes are
01:14 kind to the environment and easy to maintain. The NGO has already given bikes to dozens
01:21 of girls who live far from their school, which has even helped some of them to successfully
01:26 complete their secondary education.
