Premiering Sunday, November 19th at 8pm ET
For the first time ever, confectionery artists enter the fantastical world of The Elf on the Shelf in the five-episode event The Elf on the Shelf: Sweet Showdown hosted by Duff Goldman and premiering on Sunday, November 19th at 8pm ET/PT. Santa and his loyal Scout Elves, along with the help of legendary cake master Goldman, will challenge six teams of Sweetmakers in a competition full of surprises. Each week, the teams must create edible showpieces that bring the holiday season to life. Only one team will win over judges Kardea Brown and Ashley Holt to earn the ultimate Christmas gift of $25,000 and the title of The Ambassadors of Confectionery Concoctions. Viewers can visit Food Network’s social pages to watch a digital-exclusive video series hosted by Ashley Holt in which she makes fun, family-friendly holiday treats with a little “help” from a real-life Scout Elf. Plus, fans will get an insider’s look at the Enchanted Cottage with Duff Goldman and learn holiday frosting hacks from Kardea Brown. They also can enter for a chance to win one of five Elf on the Shelf prize packs by tuning in to each week’s premiere, and they can follow #ElfOnTheShelf to chat with fellow fans.

00:00 I love it.
00:01 And speaking of the season of giving, I am here with Jolie.
00:06 And the Food Network is known for having some of the best holiday baking competitions, right?
00:11 That's right.
00:12 And this year is no different.
00:13 So, like I said, local pastry chef Jolie is here to talk about her experience on the Elf
00:18 on the Shelf Sweet Showdown.
00:21 I love that title.
00:22 It's tricky.
00:23 It was fun.
00:24 It was tricky.
00:25 Yes.
00:26 Okay, Jolie, so you are a pastry chef here in town.
00:27 That's right.
00:28 You're at the Wrigley Mansion.
00:29 Yes.
00:30 I love it.
00:31 Okay, so tell me a little bit about how you got to go on this Food Network show.
00:33 Well, it was really incredible.
00:35 I mean, essentially, I just had to, you know, do the videos and show them my work.
00:41 And they wanted me to create something.
00:44 That's right.
00:45 They were like, "Make something for me."
00:46 So I did it.
00:47 And I showed it to them.
00:48 And they were like, "Okay, you can bring the magic.
00:51 You can come on the show."
00:52 So the show is essentially going in, creating holiday-themed pastries?
01:00 That's correct.
01:01 Okay.
01:02 But every pastry has a little bit of magic added to it.
01:05 Okay, I love this.
01:07 And it premieres on November 19th on the Food Network.
01:11 That's correct.
01:12 And you are the star, so everybody has to tune in and make sure they watch.
01:15 That's right.
01:16 I mean, it's full of surprises, and it's got the best hosts, so it's really exciting.
01:20 Okay, I love it.
01:21 So you're gonna give us and the viewers at home a little something that we can do so
01:25 we can pretend like we're on the show and we're pastry chefs like you, right?
01:30 Yes, everybody can make a showstopper.
01:32 Okay.
01:33 It's really easy, and I'm gonna show you a really fast, easy recipe.
01:36 All right.
01:37 So we're gonna make donuts today.
01:38 So we've got one cup of flour, self-rising flour, because then you don't have to measure
01:42 the salt.
01:44 And then, to make it extra fluffy, I added an extra half teaspoon of baking powder.
01:49 Oh, okay.
01:50 So you're giving us the tricks here.
01:52 That's right.
01:53 We have a quarter cup of sugar, and then we have one cup of whole milk yogurt, okay?
01:58 Oh, interesting.
01:59 So we're just gonna mix this all together.
02:01 All right.
02:02 No big deal.
02:03 And I love that you have your holiday-inspired tools.
02:08 You're like ready to go to get into the holiday spirit.
02:11 Is that what you think you need to do, like if you're baking for the holidays?
02:14 Do you need to have all of your holiday-inspired stuff already out and make sure that everything
02:18 feels festive around the house?
02:20 Yes, absolutely.
02:22 All the lights, all the decorations, they bring so much cheer.
02:25 Is that what you guys did on the show?
02:26 We did.
02:27 You had all of the Christmas music playing, everything just kind of setting the scene
02:32 to really put you in the mood.
02:34 That's right.
02:35 So then this is so easy, you guys.
02:36 We just mix it, and then you're gonna scoop it.
02:39 And obviously, I don't have a frying pan right here, but you're just gonna scoop a little
02:44 ball like that.
02:45 Perfect.
02:46 And drop it into your fryer.
02:47 Okay.
02:48 And then when you're done, you just cook it at 325 in the fryer till it's golden brown.
02:52 Okay.
02:53 It just takes about five minutes, essentially.
02:55 And then the magic of television.
02:56 And then the magic, boom.
02:57 Okay.
02:58 We've got all these donuts already made.
03:01 So this is what they look like when they come out, or did you glaze these?
03:05 So these are glazed with powdered sugar.
03:07 So these ones are dipped in white chocolate and then sprinkles just for, so you can pick
03:11 any sprinkles that you want.
03:12 So you can kind of do a couple of different things here.
03:14 You can do anything you want.
03:15 You can make a maple syrup glaze.
03:18 You can make a cocoa glaze.
03:19 Anything.
03:20 Your heart desires.
03:21 Oh my gosh.
03:22 You can make cinnamon sugar to make it spicy.
03:23 And then tell me what is inside of this structure.
03:27 So this is a foam cone, right?
03:29 And then I wrapped it with plastic wrap.
03:32 And then, so at your party, your guests can just take a donut, and you've got this cute
03:37 little tree.
03:38 We're gonna fill it in with some peppermints.
03:42 So just make it nice and full.
03:44 And this is gonna kind of...
03:45 That's right.
03:46 Be a great centerpiece even.
03:48 That's right.
03:49 You've got your own little show stopper here.
03:51 It's not hard to make.
03:52 You saw it was just four ingredients.
03:53 Absolutely.
03:54 Four ingredients.
03:55 And then you just kind of push them into...
03:58 You fill it in.
03:59 Into toothpicks.
04:00 I love it.
04:01 That's right.
04:02 This sounds like something even I could do.
04:03 Anybody can do it.
04:04 You can even buy the donuts if you want to.
04:06 Okay, here.
04:07 Can I do a couple?
04:08 Yes, please.
04:09 One right on top maybe.
04:10 And then we'll do some of these.
04:11 And then remind everybody when the show is and how they can watch.
04:15 So you can watch the show.
04:17 It's on Food Network through HBO Max.
04:19 Okay, so streaming.
04:21 This Sunday.
04:24 I'm dropping donut holes, you guys.
04:26 This Sunday it premieres.
04:28 That's correct.
04:29 This Sunday on HBO Max.
04:31 And they'll see you on there.
04:32 Can you give us a little sneak peek about how you did?
04:35 Well, can I?
04:39 I don't know.
04:40 You tell me.
04:41 Just say, did you do well?
04:43 Were you proud at the end?
04:44 I'm very proud.
04:45 I'm very proud.
04:46 It was a very strong fight.
04:48 Good for you.
04:49 To the end.
04:50 Well, here as a local Arizona person, we are very proud to have you.
04:56 Thank you.
04:57 Representing us and making the Christmas magic there on the Food Network.
05:00 Thanks.
05:01 It was so much fun.
05:02 We love it.
05:03 All right, Jolie, thank you so much.
05:04 Definitely will be watching here.
05:05 And coming up, JDRF is talking about World Diabetes Day and how you can get involved.
05:10 So stick around.
