We went to Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado's Tanay mountain retreat and wondered at how their beautiful house used to be shipping containers.
Yes, you read it right--shipping containers. The kinds that get loaded with cargo and transported on freight ships.
The concept of houses built from steel intermodal freight containers is nothing new. But what is impressive and truly bewildering is how DenJen's home was built on top of a mountain and through narrow passages.
Dennis filled up PEP.ph about that and took the team on a tour around their 1,000-square-metre estate, where he showed the spots where he relaxes, and the amenities and equipment he and his family use to unwind and recharge.
Also worth looking at is the breathtaking view of Laguna Bay from the balcony of Dennis and Jennylyn's home, especially on a sunset.
Watch the video to see what we mean.

00:00 Hello there, pepsters! This is Dennis Trillo and welcome to our home.
00:04 [music]
00:10 This property is 1,000 square meters.
00:16 The house is around 700 square meters.
00:21 There's a guest room downstairs and a fountain.
00:26 It's like a 4-bedroom all-in-one.
00:28 We got this lot during the pandemic.
00:32 During that time, we valued these places more.
00:38 We had fresh air because we were always inside the house.
00:41 We could also go out and breathe.
00:43 We could be free at any time.
00:46 So we decided to do this so we could have a place to go.
00:49 [music]
00:54 We thought it would be faster to build this because it's already complete.
00:59 But it took longer because there were many steps before we got to the property.
01:05 We had to cut the 40-foot container in the middle and build it again on the site.
01:12 It took us a year and a half to complete the construction.
01:17 [music]
01:24 I don't know the exact name of the team.
01:30 My wife, Jen, is the one who likes to design the furniture.
01:35 She designs the colors and the palette.
01:39 We have a conversation with the designers to make it happen.
01:45 [music]
02:00 In the morning, Dylan and I go out to get some sunlight.
02:06 I come back in when it's hot and we have breakfast.
02:10 I usually stay there when everyone is still asleep and they're still awake.
02:15 The view is beautiful, the sunset is beautiful, the air is fresh.
02:19 You don't feel anything when you're here because it's so open and you don't have to be near the houses.
02:26 [music]
02:32 You need to be here because it's cold and windy.
02:38 Sometimes it's hard to find a way to sweat.
02:42 This is one of the easiest ways to sweat even if you don't exercise.
02:47 [music]
02:52 I usually come here.
02:54 But it's raining now so I'm a bit tired and I can't ride my bike.
02:58 But I usually come here to the subdivision.
03:03 You don't have to do much. Sometimes you want to be quiet.
03:07 Sometimes you just want to listen to music. It depends on your mood.
03:11 Jen and I really like music. We like to collect.
03:16 We have a library of our favorite artists and albums.
03:22 We just collect our favorites. We don't have all of them yet.
03:28 We don't have a thousand yet but we have close to a thousand.
03:33 [music]
03:46 Thank you so much, PEPsters, for joining us on our home tour.
03:52 And you can read the full story on pep.ph.
