Suzuki never envisioned its Hayabusa hypersport bike becoming a cult classic, but it did. Over the bike’s 22-year history Suzuki has sold more than 100,000 Hayabusa sportbikes in the US and twice that number worldwide. It’s a large enough part of the company’s history that Suzuki overhauled this hypersport bike and positioned it as the most premium streetbike offering in its new model lineup This video review is the third in a multipart series.

00:02 Hey folks, we just got done riding Suzuki's
00:26 2022 Hayabusa GSX 1300R.
00:31 This is a new redesigned hyper sport bike from Suzuki.
00:37 This motorcycle is all about going fast
00:41 and going there very comfortably.
00:44 The Suzuki Hayabusa is a cult classic motorcycle
00:49 within Suzuki's model lineup.
00:53 They've been making it since 1999
00:56 and over the years it's created just a following
01:00 like few other modern motorcycles made today.
01:04 For the 2022 model year, Suzuki did a number
01:08 of careful improvements to improve the overall dynamic
01:13 of this motorcycle.
01:15 Let's start with the engine.
01:17 The engine continues to be powered
01:18 by Suzuki's 1340 CC inline four.
01:22 This is a water cooled dual overhead cam 16 valve engine.
01:27 Now, while the architecture and the actual specifications
01:32 of the engine is similar to its predecessor,
01:35 Suzuki has done a lot of modifications inside that engine
01:40 to make it smoother, to add torque
01:43 and increase that fun loving high performance,
01:47 high adrenaline character that the Hayabusa has always had.
01:52 I really like the engine in this motorcycle.
01:55 It just has gobs and gobs of torque.
01:58 Just when you think Suzuki can't make engine any smoother,
02:02 they do.
02:03 This GSX 1300 R engine, just the epitome of smooth,
02:08 upshift into sixth gear, dial in the throttle
02:11 and away you go.
02:13 What I really like about the powertrain on the Hayabusa
02:16 is just the electronics package.
02:18 Suzuki's been pretty slow to roll
02:21 into the modern electronics package,
02:23 which is pretty crazy because they were one
02:25 of the first Japanese motorcycle manufacturers
02:28 to have fuel injection on a sport bike.
02:30 Fast forward to the Hayabusa
02:32 and they've thrown the kitchen sink
02:34 in the electronics department at this motorcycle.
02:37 The bike has 10 way adjustable IMU power traction control.
02:41 It has 10 way adjustable wheelie control.
02:45 It has cornering ABS.
02:46 It has engine brake control.
02:48 It has Suzuki's awesome SDMS adjustable power modes.
02:53 It has a really neat and slick launch control system.
02:58 After all, these Hayabusas are made for drag racing.
03:01 They're made for going fast in a straight line.
03:04 And that launch control really allows you
03:07 to wield the motorcycle and launch it
03:10 in a more easy and predictable fashion.
03:15 The chassis on this motorcycle,
03:17 this bike is still a very much a heavyweight motorcycle.
03:21 It weighs 582 pounds with a full tank of gas.
03:24 That's about four pounds less than its predecessor
03:27 and around 140 some pounds heavier than a GSX-R1000.
03:32 So it's a sizable motorcycle.
03:34 You know, these Hayabusas have always been designed
03:37 for bigger folks.
03:38 If you're an NBA size basketball player,
03:41 you are gonna like the ergonomics on this motorcycle.
03:44 There are not a lot of motorcycles made these days
03:46 that favor taller, larger riders.
03:49 This Hayabusa favors us tall guys.
03:52 Chassis on this motorcycle, it steers really well.
03:55 You'd be really impressed how well a 500,
03:57 nearly 600 pound motorcycle can ride,
04:00 both on the street and at the three mile
04:03 to LA road racing course where we rode the motorcycle today.
04:06 Very, very agile, very predictable.
04:08 The suspension is a nice improvement
04:11 compared to the previous Hayabusa.
04:13 The action's a little bit more responsive.
04:15 The pitch control is a little bit more dialed
04:18 and that factored in with the more powerful
04:21 braking package.
04:22 It's just much more competent motorcycle.
04:25 Even though it's big, even though it's heavy,
04:27 it doesn't necessarily feel as big and heavy
04:31 as the spec chart would imply.
04:34 Overall, really impressed with what Suzuki's done
04:37 with the Hayabusa.
04:38 If you're a long time diehard Suzuki Hayabusa fan,
04:42 you are gonna like this motorcycle.
04:44 Suzuki really stuck to the script.
04:46 They changed things, but they changed things
04:48 in a very methodical fashion.
04:51 This isn't an all new ground up redesign
04:53 with a cross plane engine
04:55 and everything's totally different.
04:56 This is the same Hayabusa motorcycle
04:59 that we've known and loved for many years.
05:02 It's just a little bit more modern,
05:04 a little more smooth, a little more polished,
05:06 and still a heck of a lot of fun to ride.
05:09 Well folks, that wraps things up
05:11 from the official press introduction
05:13 of Suzuki's 2022 GSX 1300R Hayabusa.
