Disney Cartoon Goofy For Whom The Bulls Toil

00:00 Our next film takes Goofy south of the border for an unexpected encounter with
00:05 bulls and bullfighting. Its depiction of Mexican villagers might be considered
00:10 stereotypical, but it's certainly not mean-spirited and wasn't meant to be.
00:18 The cartoon shows great respect for matadors and the tradition of bullfighting
00:22 and also tips its hat to Mexican music by giving special billing to the renowned
00:27 trumpeter Rafael Mendez, who plays all the incredible solos you'll hear on the
00:31 soundtrack. The film was designed by a wonderful artist named Ivan Earle, whose
00:38 stylish work here led to him being assigned the production design of Walt
00:42 Disney's most ambitious animated feature, Sleeping Beauty. Earle subsequently won a
00:47 worldwide reputation for his paintings, so you can brag that you saw some of his
00:52 earliest modern art in the backdrop of this cartoon.
