00:00 Tate McRae is our brand new cover star and she's performing at the BBMAs.
00:04 We're running down the biggest songs on TikTok.
00:07 Harry Styles is hairless.
00:09 And we take a look back at Elvis.
00:11 This is Billboard News for November 16th and I'm Tetris Kelly.
00:18 One of our favorite new stars is on the cover of Billboard.
00:21 We get greedy with Tate McRae in our new profile.
00:25 ♪ You can't help but it hurts when you broke me first ♪
00:30 I remember the day I was on a walk with my mom and I remember I was like, "Oh my god,
00:34 I'm number one on like the bubbling under, the Hot 100 chart."
00:38 And I was like, "This is the biggest day of my life."
00:41 When "You Broke Me First" hit 17.
00:43 It's pretty wild because I feel like I've just been watching my favorite artists
00:47 of all time on that chart.
00:49 And I think at first I didn't realize the capacity of what "You Broke Me First" had done.
00:54 Until I actually like got to LA and realized that it had, you know, gotten to a specific
00:59 spot and gotten that big.
01:00 When I wrote "You Broke Me First," I was 16.
01:03 I was like, "I have to put this song out.
01:05 I really want to."
01:06 The first time I had to like film my first ever like legit music video was with my friend
01:11 like back in Calgary on VideoStar on my phone.
01:15 It's only two passes of the entire music video.
01:17 It's so crazy.
01:18 It has like so many views now and it's so strange to just look back and see that it
01:22 was literally made on an iPhone.
01:23 I was so nervous to release this song because I feel like I hadn't released music for 11
01:31 months.
01:32 And so my fans were just kind of like waiting to see what I would do next.
01:35 And I didn't really know what direction I was going to go in, especially taking that
01:39 much time off and then coming back with a song and it being like my biggest debut of
01:42 a song ever is just like the craziest feeling ever.
01:45 It's been really exciting to see it on the Billboard Hot 100.
01:49 Just because even in the global 200, like seeing it get to like number four has been
01:54 like so nuts.
01:56 It's wild that this all started when I was 16 because I didn't even know if I wanted
02:00 to like grow up and be a singer.
02:01 I thought I was going to be a back up dancer or something.
02:04 So to see the success of songs that are coming from my bedroom and then obviously translating
02:09 to the rest of the world was very mind boggling for me and still is to this day.
02:14 I feel like now it feels like my job and I'm like, "Okay, this is cool.
02:18 I get to like actually do this every single day and put my full attention into it."
02:21 But when I released "You Broke Me First," like I was still finishing grade 11.
02:24 It is very crazy.
02:26 Just my mentality has obviously shifted a little bit.

02:44 Tate McRae is making a name for herself on the Billboard charts with top hits on the
02:48 Dance Electronic chart.
02:50 The Canadian singer and dancer is a BBMA finalist and performer at this year's Billboard
02:56 Music Award.
02:57 Some of her biggest accomplishments include seven Hot 100 hits.
03:01 "You" with "Regard" and "Choice" Savan peeked at number one for eight weeks on the
03:06 Hot Dance Electronic Songs chart.
03:09 Seven total charted songs on Pop Airplay, including "You Broke Me First," which reached
03:13 number two in 2021.
03:15 Tate McRae is up for one Billboard Music Award top Dance Electronic song for "1035."
03:24 And we can't forget her highest charting hit to date.
03:33 Her song "Greedy" has had success, including peaking at number 11 on the Billboard Hot
03:38 100.
03:40 It became her highest career debut when it opened at number 33.
03:44 It's her second top 20 on the Hot 100, following "You Broke Me First," which reached number
03:48 17 in 2021.
03:51 And the song has also reached the top 20 on Pop Airplay.
03:54 Tate McRae is finding success on the Billboard charts and her performance at this year's
04:02 BBMAs is sure to bring her star power even higher.
04:06 Some pop stars are known for their luscious locks, but what happens when they want to
04:10 switch it up?
04:11 After news broke of Harry Styles shaving his head, fans have seemed to be in denial.
04:16 But the pop star confirmed his luscious locks are in fact gone in a new post to Instagram.
04:21 Harry Styles is probably known as much for his hair as he is for his voice.
04:30 Since his early days with One Direction, the singer has always sported a full head of hair.
04:35 Well, it seems the rumors are true.
04:37 It's all gone.
04:38 On Wednesday, the Instagram account for "Pleasing," the beauty and apparel line launched by Harry
04:42 in 2021, shared a photo of their founder with his infamous new buzz cut on full display.
04:49 Fans' reactions to Harry's shaved head have been nothing but hilarious, with one fan writing on
04:54 X, "How are you gonna be named Harry Styles with no hair to style?"
04:58 And another saying what we're all thinking, "Harry Styles shaving his head was not in my
05:03 bingo card for 2023."
05:05 I gotta say, I kinda like the new look.
05:07 Maybe I'll join Harry and we can start a new trend for 2024, the buzz cut season.
05:13 It's always interesting to find out the inspiration of hit songs.
05:21 And today, we do that with Elvis.
05:23 Elvis Presley, one of the biggest names in music history.
05:33 But did you know that one of the King of Rock's biggest hits might have been inspired by a can
05:37 of Pepsi?
05:38 We take you to that moment in this week's Pop Culture Rewind.
05:44 Elvis Presley.
05:52 Elvis remains one of the greatest cultural icons.
05:55 His 1950s hits like "Heartbreak Hotel"
05:58 "Well, it's down at the end of the road, a speeder, heartbreak hotel."
06:02 and "Hound Dog"
06:03 were a call to a generation of guitar slingers.
06:08 He racked up seven number one hits on the Billboard Hot 100.
06:11 But one of his most recognizable tunes may have been inspired by one of our favorite beverages.
06:16 The 1957 hit "All Shook Up" was written by Elvis and longtime collaborator Otis Blackwell.
06:25 Sourced from the encyclopedia of great popular song recordings,
06:28 Blackwell's friend Al Stanton shook a bottle of Pepsi, which inspired Blackwell to pen the track.
06:33 We're going to crack open a cold one and listen to some Elvis with that story to tell.
06:40 We'll have another huge moment for you next week in our Pop Culture Rewind.
06:44 Elvis would for sure have been the kind of star that goes viral.

07:15 Lil Mabu and Krishan Rock's "Mr. Take Yo Bitch" drops to number two,
07:19 while Aaliyah's interlude "It Girl Sped Up" rises to the number three spot.
07:23 Ice Spice and Bad Bunny are reaching new heights with "Delhi" at number four
07:27 and "Monaco" sitting at number five.
