Dave Kelly chairman of Everton fan advisory board on club's ten point premier league deduction
Transcript
00:00 angry and frustrated I'll tell you.
00:03 First of all, sir, can I have your name?
00:06 Yeah, my name is Dave Kelly and I am the chairman of the Everton Fan Advisory Board.
00:12 Dave, you just spoke today about Everton's point of deduction, what do you make of that?
00:18 Erm, one of surprise, one of disappointment,
00:24 one that's left me incredibly angry and frustrated and I don't just believe that it will be Evertonians who are angry and frustrated,
00:35 I believe that to be football fans up and down the Linden Breath of the country who are incredibly surprised at what's gone on today.
00:45 It seems as if Everton Football Club have been made scapegoats for something got worse, could be construed as a minor misdemeanour.
00:56 It appears to me that the Premier League have attempted to use a sled jammer to crack a nut.
01:04 I think the Premier League are clearly looking to send a message out to all the other clubs and particularly a message to the government,
01:13 given the King's speech earlier on in the week where they're talking about an independent regulator for football.
01:21 I think the Premier League are sending a message out to the government saying we don't need an independent regulator to govern football, we're more than capable of doing it ourselves.
01:33 What do you think the implications are for Everton because we've seen this big upturn in form,
01:39 they're playing some really nice football, getting the points as well and getting applauded.
01:46 What impact does that have as they drop to 19th?
01:49 Well I think it's something that we could clearly be using to our advantage.
01:57 I don't think there's ever a better set of circumstances for any football club or football fans to actually be embroiled in a siege mentality.
02:09 I would urge every single Evertonian out there to make sure that next week when we play Manchester United that Goodison Park is a bare pit.
02:22 Because I think Goodison can be quite an unforgiving arena and I'd like to think that all the fans are united as one.
02:31 And let's show a global, worldwide audience how wrong our great football club is.
02:39 Our football club is an institution in this city, it's 145 years old, it's a sporting institution.
02:48 Not just on a national stage but on an international stage and I think that all Everton fans need to come together and show their anger on that game against Man United.
03:00 Do you think Manchester City will have a very different view of the punishment to Everton?
03:08 Considering Everton faced one charge, they face 114.
03:13 I wouldn't like to speak for what Man City do or don't do and I wouldn't really particularly want to pass comments about Chelsea or any of the other clubs who are sailing quite close to the wind.
03:26 I believe that this is an issue that not just Everton and Evertonians need to win.
03:33 I believe that anyone who's got the best interest of football and the beautiful game, that they stand behind us and support us.
03:43 It's a miscarriage of justice.
03:49 As I said, I could understand a fine, I could understand a transfer embargo but the severity of a 10 point deduction to taking me as a suspect is the wrong judgement as far as I'm concerned.
04:03 It's the wrong punishment. Someone likened it to me before. It would be like going to court on a drunk disorderly charge and getting a four year custodial sentence.
04:14 Do you feel like Everton have been scapegoated? Do you think because Everton are forced up, they've decided to come down harder on Everton?
04:23 Well, I haven't had the opportunity to read the full documents.
04:28 There's a 40 page document out there which will make interesting nighttime reading tonight.
04:35 So I'd like to see and read the documents but it just seems so inappropriate.
04:44 My understanding at the moment would be there's a debate as to whether it's just the technicality of how accounting practices are being conducted and carried out.
04:57 It seems to be a relatively minor misdemeanor. I'm absolutely delighted that Everton Football Club have instantly put an appeal in against what's gone on today and hopefully justice will be seen to be done.
05:12 That's fabulous. Is there anything you want to say?
05:15 No, no.
05:16 That's brilliant. I really enjoyed that.
