00:00 [INAUDIBLE] I expect.
00:03 Keep the fight clean, obey my commands, and most importantly, protect yourself at all times.
00:07 Shake hands.
00:07 >> Well, this one was the last fight added to the card tonight.
00:13 A fight that was added when the Kakashi Ghana fight fell through.
00:16 It's for the English heavyweight title between two unbeaten big men and
00:20 one in Solomon Dakers, who's desperate for a fight with Fabio Warley.
00:24 For that to happen, he needs to come through tonight against Michael Webster.
00:28 The only difference in the measurables is the one inch height advantage that Webster
00:33 has, both men weighed in at 17 stone eight yesterday, and
00:37 both are ready for this one tonight.
00:40 Richie Woodall, join me down here in the commentary position.
00:42 First and foremost, good evening, how are you?
00:45 >> Brilliant, it's a lot better being ringside than where I've just been sitting.
00:49 But it's been hard for me and Carl Frampton to actually watch the box look close,
00:54 but this is more like it, Fletch.
00:56 >> What about this one tonight then, Solomon Dakers,
00:59 first defensively English heavyweight title for him, which he won against Robert Ismay
01:03 in Newcastle in March.
01:04 He was out again in the summer against a South African, Chris Thompson.
01:08 We last saw Webster two and a half weeks ago in Middlesbrough,
01:11 when he won inside a round.
01:12 So it's been a relatively quick turnaround for him.
01:14 >> Yes, it's a good contest, isn't it, both are unbeaten.
01:18 Both are former GB boxers as well, when they were in the GB amateur squad, and
01:23 they know each other, they would have sparred a few rounds together.
01:27 So I think Solomon, he more or less, he pushed that to the side when he was
01:33 asked about it, he can't really remember the spars, but Michael Webster certainly can.
01:38 And it'll be interesting to see how this goes, cuz like I said,
01:41 you don't forget them spars.
01:43 And in terms of Michael Webster anyway,
01:44 he thinks he's had a good sparring against Solomon Dakers in the GB squad.
01:51 >> Dakers landing a shot high on the head of the heavily tattooed Michael Webster.
01:56 Both of them unbeaten, seven victories in seven fights for
02:01 Solomon Dakers, just the two stoppages.
02:03 He's won all nine, Michael Webster.
02:06 Six men have failed to hear the final bell.
02:09 Similar in build, aren't they, the two of them.
02:13 Webster maybe just slightly thicker, maybe slightly broader across the shoulders.
02:18 Dakers can be a nice mover in there, Richard.
02:20 >> Yeah, Dakers, very relaxed guard, relaxed lead hand, and
02:24 that's what you gotta watch out for here is the right hand from Webster.
02:28 Webster, he's playing it nice and tight, nice tight guard.
02:31 But he looked to land that right hand, and again, Dakers,
02:34 he's just a little bit too relaxed for my liking.
02:37 He's gotta watch that right hand from Webster.
02:38 >> [NOISE]
02:48 >> Webster, nice and compact.
02:54 From there, high held guard.
02:57 Quite efficient with his punches in this opening round.
03:00 Final 30 seconds of it, scheduled for ten this one for the English heavyweight title.
03:07 >> Of course, the heavyweight's making all the headlines at the moment with
03:10 the big card on the 23rd of December in Saudi Arabia featuring Anthony Joshua,
03:14 Deontay Wilder, and then February the 17th.
03:17 I think the boxing world will stop for Tyson Fury against Alexander Usyk.
03:21 >> Yeah, can't wait for that.
03:24 It's exciting times, isn't it, for boxing fans?
03:27 [SOUND]
03:29 >> And there's the bell to end the first round here in this one.
03:31 [MUSIC]
03:41 [MUSIC]
03:51 [MUSIC]
04:01 >> Welcome back to Manchester.
04:11 We're listening to the Solomon Dakers corner on this.
04:13 >> Step up to him.
04:14 >> Michael Webster, Dennis Power doing the talking in there.
04:17 >> Come on.
04:20 >> Step west.
04:21 >> Mentioned they've been around the GV squad.
04:22 He was a good amateur, wasn't he, Solomon Dakers?
04:24 Sparred quite a bit with Fraser Clark, Richie, and he trained against Tyson Fury.
04:29 And Anthony Joshua, Steve was talking about that fight he had with Daniel Dubois
04:32 when they were both in the amateur ranks.
04:35 >> And they became teammates, Dakers and Daniel Dubois on the GB squad.
04:41 So yeah, he has sparred a lot with Fraser Clark, with Dubois, Anthony Joshua.
04:46 >> Yeah, he's done the mileage as Solomon Dakers, certainly done the rounds.
04:51 >> [INAUDIBLE]
04:53 >> [INAUDIBLE]
04:55 >> Step back, step back.
04:57 >> [INAUDIBLE]
05:07 >> Both of them orthodox fighters in
05:09 there, working behind the left jab, which is being popped out there by Solomon Dakers.
05:13 >> [INAUDIBLE]
05:18 >> It's not really livened up yet as it
05:19 fletched, to be quite honest.
05:21 But Webster still keeping that nice high guard, working well behind his jab.
05:25 And I've trained with Dakers and I've took him on the pads many times and
05:31 he can hit extremely hard when he wants to.
05:34 He's gotta get his hands go here.
05:36 Because again, Webster just getting the better of those little exchanges.
05:40 And that's mainly because Dakers again, very relaxed lead hand and
05:44 just allows a shot to get through there again.
05:46 >> [NOISE]
05:56 >> [INAUDIBLE]
06:01 >> Webster looking to try and
06:03 land a big shot there.
06:04 Dakers just able, I think, just to roll away from it.
06:07 Right at the last split second.
06:09 >> It's a good left hand that's landed by Solomon Dakers.
06:13 >> [NOISE]
06:17 >> He just brought that from outside
06:18 the line of vision, didn't he?
06:19 Dakers there just honed in on the target.
06:22 That shot, left hook, long left hook.
06:25 Hard to detect as well when you're throwing it from the waist.
06:27 >> [NOISE]
06:29 >> And just one home.
06:31 And again, it's really livened up this contest.
06:34 >> It's quite compact in the way that he throws his punches, isn't he, Webster?
06:37 He lets those hooks go, but he never really leaves himself open or
06:40 exposed when he's thrown them, Richie.
06:41 Yeah, he's well schooled, isn't he?
06:43 >> Nice tight guard, does the basics well, works behind his jab and
06:46 gets his hands back to the on guard position once he's thrown the punches.
06:50 So just basic boxing, really.
06:52 >> [NOISE]
07:02 >> At a time when the heavyweights
07:03 are dominating the boxing scene, this is the only heavyweight fight on the card
07:06 tonight.
07:07 You'll see Liam Davis, that's super bantamweight after this one,
07:11 that we really ramped it up with Nick Ball against Isaac Dogbe and
07:14 then finish it all off with Denzel Bentley against Nathan Keeney.
07:19 The arena started to fill nicely now, building towards those two co-main
07:23 events, final few seconds here in the second round of this one.
07:28 [MUSIC]
07:38 >> Bantam, we showed up, let's show up.
07:43 >> Three, two, one.
07:45 >> Game time, come on.
07:46 [MUSIC]
07:57 [MUSIC]
08:05 >> Gotta love that.
08:06 [MUSIC]
08:09 [MUSIC]
08:10 >> All right now.
08:11 >> What if my coverage isn't right?
08:12 What if I accidentally hit a food truck?
08:14 What if it gets covered in empanadas?
08:15 >> At State Farm, we're there for your what ifs.
08:18 >> Thanks.
08:19 >> Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there.
08:22 >> While he was away, was asking him the question, do you want this or not?
08:26 When you get close to him, let your hands go.
08:29 He's quite disappointed, I think, by the way that Webster started,
08:32 because he can see some holes in Solomon Dakers that his man can exploit.
08:36 >> Clearly disappointed, isn't he?
08:37 But you've got to remember, this is his first ten round.
08:39 He's never been past four rounds before, and
08:42 that will be in the back of his mind.
08:46 So maybe he's just trying to pace himself a little bit.
08:48 But yeah, his coach clearly wasn't happy there.
08:51 But let's bear that in mind.
08:52 He's never been past four rounds, Michael Webster, and
08:54 that will be playing on his mind, definitely.
08:57 >> Yeah, the flip side of that is that Dakers has been ten rounds in his last
09:01 two, but Webster is trying to let his hands go a bit more in this round.
09:04 So the message seems to have gone in.
09:06 >> [NOISE] >> Yeah, it's a better start for
09:10 the round for Michael Webster.
09:12 >> [NOISE]
09:22 >> [INAUDIBLE]
09:32 >> Neither man to this point's find any
09:36 real rhythm.
09:37 Neither of them really landed a telling shot that you could speak of.
09:41 >> Come on, man, you've got- >> What Webster's got to do,
09:44 Fletcher, after that double jab.
09:45 He's just gonna throw his right hand, cuz he could catch Dakers then,
09:49 because of the low lead hand that Dakers has got.
09:52 So it's a double jab right hand, that's what he needs to be doing.
09:56 But by coming forward, maybe a little bit head movements also,
09:58 because Dakers, his favorite shot is the right hand over the top.
10:01 >> [INAUDIBLE] >> And
10:03 if Webster's coming forward, closing the gap himself, then he may walk onto that
10:07 shot and will create opportunities for Dakers to land that right hand.
10:11 >> [NOISE] >> That's a really good shot by Webster,
10:16 just caught Dakers coming in, and
10:19 I think that's just scrambled him a little bit.
10:22 That's the best punch of the fight so far, and it was landed by Webster.
10:25 >> Yeah, good shot, and Dakers actually turned around, didn't he?
10:28 At one point, had his back to Webster.
10:31 The referee let it go on, to his surprise,
10:33 he actually just turned around, but there you go.
10:35 That was a good shot from Webster.
10:37 >> Best punch that either man's managed to land to this point.
10:40 Just wonder whether that might stoke Dakers up a little bit.
10:43 He's been a bit one-paced at this point.
10:44 That's a good long right hand that he lands, Dakers, but
10:47 haven't seen too much of that to this point.
10:49 >> [NOISE]
10:59 >> Into the final 30 seconds of the third
11:06 round.
11:07 Best punch of the round so far is being landed by Michael Webster.
11:13 >> [NOISE]
11:23 >> Well, I think we're all excited by
11:32 the co-main event tonight, the eliminator for
11:35 the WBC featherweight title between Nick Ball and Isaac Dogbe.
11:39 And the man from Liverpool is backstage with Becky Ives.
11:41 [MUSIC]
11:51 [MUSIC]
12:01 [MUSIC]
12:11 >> Gordon has ten seconds.
12:18 [MUSIC]
12:25 >> Second down.
12:25 >> [LAUGH] That's all he has to say, Richie, and the news.
12:29 >> [LAUGH] That could be a cracker, couldn't it?
12:33 >> Yeah, it will be.
12:35 >> Massive soles there, can't wait for that one.
12:37 >> [NOISE] >> Into the fall.
12:39 >> I think it's a heavyweight fight where we'd like to see both of them just step up
12:44 the tempo a little bit, wouldn't we?
12:45 >> Exactly, there were glimpses in that previous round that he was gonna liven up.
12:49 >> Let's hope it does.
12:51 >> [NOISE] >> Dakers being chased across the ring
12:56 there by Webster.
12:57 >> He must have felt he got one through on the inside.
12:59 >> I think he did.
13:00 >> I think Dakers has turned around again.
13:04 Webster, very quick.
13:07 >> He should be pushing on.
13:10 >> Again, just turns, gets caught.
13:12 That's a better shot from Webster.
13:14 >> Dakers again just losing his footing or doing something.
13:18 The way he's turning around, off balance.
13:21 >> Fletch doesn't seem to be too bothered by the punches that land at the end of it
13:25 all, Solomon Dakers, but it's a concern that he's getting caught so easily.
13:29 >> He's getting caught and turning around, isn't he?
13:32 So, it's a concern.
13:34 >> [NOISE] >> That's part of the trap of that low
13:40 lead hand, he's trying to invite the pressure, invite Webster to come forward.
13:44 >> [NOISE] >> But this is better work again from
13:47 Webster on that front foot.
13:49 >> Webster's the one at the moment who's trying to quickly things up and
13:52 trying to fight at a higher pace.
13:54 Trying to take the fight to Solomon Dakers.
13:57 >> [INAUDIBLE] >> It's a recent addition to the
14:00 Queensbury stable at heavyweight.
14:03 >> [NOISE] >> Webster started off as a cruiser, but
14:07 the natural size that he has,
14:09 it was inevitable that he'd take the step up to heavyweight pretty quickly.
14:12 >> [NOISE]
14:20 >> I just get the impression that
14:22 there's a sense in that Dakers, he's getting weaker or
14:26 fitness is going, I don't know, but he's coming forward a lot more with Webster.
14:32 >> Great uppercut that got through on the inside from Webster.
14:34 That was short and sharp and landed cleanly on the chin of Solomon Dakers.
14:39 It does hold his head quite high, Richie, doesn't it?
14:42 His head carriage is quite awkward.
14:44 >> Yes, it is.
14:45 Low lead hand just invites the pressure from Webster.
14:49 >> [NOISE] >> He will look to land that right hand
14:54 also.
14:55 Webster comes forward with Webster fair play to him on that front foot.
14:59 He's doing better than Dakers here.
15:02 >> Remember Webster fighting tonight on two and a half weeks notice.
15:06 The fight that was hastily put together when Anthony Kakachi's fight against
15:10 Ryan Garland fell through due to injury.
15:13 It's not been a problem for the men from Middlesbrough at this point.
15:16 >> [NOISE]
15:26 >> I think he's got to do something
15:28 different.
15:28 [SOUND]
15:30 [MUSIC]
15:41 >> So you got to keep the shape.
15:44 You got to keep the shape.
15:45 So you got to start doubling the jab up, backing him up.
15:48 Stop putting on this kid over there.
15:49 You're giving him too much time.
15:51 Don't get rid of him for people with his confidence up.
15:54 Double the jab up from there and start setting that right hand up.
15:56 Deep breath.
15:58 You've got to be able to see everything he's doing.
16:00 So don't turn around on him, you know what I mean?
16:02 Give him some fucking, give him some free shots.
16:06 Let's get that jab now.
16:07 It's nice and sharp.
16:07 Good shot, double it up.
16:11 >> Better work from Webster in this round.
16:14 That nice right uppercut on the inside there from him.
16:17 Dakers.
16:18 >> Corners, 10 seconds.
16:18 >> Blocked that shot there.
16:20 He's cuffed.
16:21 That left hook, but nevertheless a better round for Webster.
16:26 >> So those fights up to now, Richie,
16:28 when it's not a great deal coming from either man.
16:30 But the better stuff is coming from Webster.
16:32 The cleaner punches coming from Webster.
16:35 >> I think you're right, Fletch.
16:37 >> I'm not going to turn the back of the head.
16:38 I don't want you spinning around again.
16:39 Stop hitting me in the back of the head yourself, do you understand?
16:43 >> I don't want you spinning around again, that's what the referee has said.
16:45 So just a little warning there to Solomon Dakers.
16:52 Fifth round.
16:54 This is a title that's been held by the likes of Tyson Fury,
16:57 Daniel Dubois, Fabio Wardley.
17:01 Wardley says, well, Dakers says that Wardley's the man that he wants if he comes through tonight.
17:04 He's been calling him out since he beat David Adelaide on the Fury at Garnewville in Riyadh.
17:12 Wardley said tonight would indicate that there's a bit of work to do before he thinks about that one.
17:17 He's got to find an extra gear or two here against Michael Webster, initially.
17:22 >> There's a lot of work to be done in this contest.
17:25 He's behind Solomon Dakers.
17:31 He's leaning a little bit too far there and missing the target.
17:35 Gonna try and catch Webster as he's coming forward.
17:38 We'll give credit to Webster with that tight guard as he's coming,
17:41 but he's harder to hit as he's actually closing the gap down and coming forward.
17:46 Basic boxing from Webster and Dakers just can't get through with that piercing right hand.
17:51 >> [NOISE]
18:01 >> It's quite messy in there in general.
18:13 Between the two of them.
18:15 Just every now and again we see Webster land a decent punch.
18:21 He's got this laid back style, Solomon Dakers.
18:24 As me, which can tell a story, I suppose.
18:29 Just wonder at what stage he decides to brace his own pace a little bit and
18:34 start to let his hands go a little bit more.
18:36 The gum shield needs replacing here.
18:39 >> Yeah, I think Dakers actually boxes better when he slows things down, Fletch.
18:43 When he can see the attacks coming, that's when he's working better with his own jab and
18:48 his right hand, but when Webster's coming forward when he's up in the pace and
18:54 putting Solomon Dakers under a little bit of pressure, then I think Webster has the better of it.
19:01 Dakers doesn't like that fast tempo and that's probably what Webster has got to do.
19:05 >> Does he need to throw more punches, Dakers?
19:08 >> I think he's got to try and match Webster for punches, if anything.
19:12 It's been at work occasionally.
19:15 Like I say, he likes to box at his own pace, but Webster hasn't played to that tune, has he?
19:21 He's done well on that front foot, that's a little bit better there from Dakers.
19:25 >> Yeah, it was.
19:26 Maybe he feels he can do most of his work in the second half of the fight,
19:29 30 seconds to go in the fifth.
19:31 There's not been any real times of concern in there to this point for Dakers.
19:36 Just one or two little flurries from Webster that have potentially caught the judge's eye.
19:41 >> [NOISE]
19:51 >> Webster throwing the right hand,
19:56 Dakers there looking to respond.
19:58 Both of them just looking to let their hands go a little bit more right at the end of
20:01 the round, that was better from both of them.
20:04 So we've heard from Nick Ball and we saw Isaac, Dogbe, Mouth and The New.
20:09 Let's hear from him, he's with Deckie.
20:11 >> [INAUDIBLE]
20:13 [MUSIC]
20:23 >> [INAUDIBLE]
20:33 [MUSIC]
20:43 >> Corners, ten seconds.
20:51 [MUSIC]
20:57 Seconds out, round six.
21:00 >> Impeccable timing from Isaac Dogbe.
21:04 Very experienced man as well.
21:06 I mean, that's gonna be a fascinating one in a couple of fights.
21:08 Time up against Nick Ball to step up tonight for Nick Ball.
21:12 Dogbe's been in fights like this before.
21:14 How much has he got left in the tank?
21:16 We'll find out a little bit later on tonight.
21:18 >> Young lion versus older lion.
21:21 Certainly, I think.
21:22 >> [NOISE]
21:23 >> Long left hand just found in the chin of
21:25 Dakers from Webster.
21:27 >> [NOISE]
21:35 >> Just seeing glimpses of what Dakers
21:36 should be doing towards the end of the last round.
21:39 Flex, a bit more work with the right hand.
21:41 Listening to his corner, pushing Webster back a little bit more.
21:44 He's allowed Webster to control the pace and the tempo.
21:48 And Webster's done well on that front foot.
21:51 Towards the end of that last round, better work from Dakers.
21:54 Solid, solid right hand went in and
21:56 he actually put Webster on the back foot.
21:58 But again, this round started, Webster back on the front foot.
22:02 So Dakers has got to do something differently here.
22:05 Gotta listen to his corner and try and push Webster back most definitely.
22:09 >> [NOISE]
22:12 >> Six rounds scheduled for ten for
22:14 the English heavyweight title.
22:15 I mentioned the fact that Webster fought two and a half weeks ago, but
22:19 he shouldn't have taken his toll on him and he finished inside a round.
22:22 So in terms of stamina and
22:23 the kind of physical challenge he would have faced, there wasn't too much.
22:28 On that occasion, so he should be fine tonight if it goes into the later stages
22:32 here.
22:32 >> [NOISE]
22:38 >> Now is this a sign there that he's
22:39 gotta watch what he's doing, Dakers, as he breaks away.
22:42 His hands are still low, almost got caught with a shot there from Webster.
22:47 Actually making his own mistakes there, moving away from Webster, low hands.
22:52 And just getting a little bit complacent there, Dakers, he's gotta watch it.
22:55 >> [NOISE]
22:58 >> When you carry your guard low and
22:59 your head high, your reflexes have to be spot on, don't they?
23:02 >> [NOISE]
23:05 >> I've seen a few fighters fight down
23:06 the years and come across where it works well for some but not everybody.
23:10 This is the way he fights, though, Dakers, certainly well as an amateur.
23:13 He's gonna fight this way in the pros.
23:14 >> There you are, Michael, push.
23:16 >> Just missing with that pretty sharp, short uppercut there, Michael Webster.
23:21 >> [NOISE]
23:23 >> Good counter punch by Webster as
23:25 Dakers committed himself.
23:26 >> [NOISE]
23:27 >> And he committed himself,
23:29 it sort of pulled out right at the very last sort of second.
23:32 Almost caught himself, didn't follow through with that right hand.
23:35 He's gotta watch that, he's still thinking of the safety aspect.
23:40 Although he's trying to land a long straight right hand.
23:42 >> [NOISE]
23:43 >> He's doing that.
23:44 >> [NOISE]
23:54 >> And there's the bell.
24:02 >> [NOISE]
24:06 [MUSIC]
24:13 >> You're waiting so long.
24:15 You're waiting so, you're cracking him and then standing looking at him,
24:18 which I've told you every round.
24:20 >> I'm just waiting for the time, Conor.
24:21 >> Yeah, but you're giving him time, though.
24:24 You're giving him time.
24:25 Take your feet there.
24:27 I've asked you to punch him, Conor, let him breathe a night.
24:31 Let him breathe a night.
24:33 >> Yeah, yeah.
24:34 >> You've gotta let your hands go.
24:36 It's no good throwing one, two at him and then stand looking at him.
24:40 >> Wait him up and down, never mind and clinch him looking over there.
24:44 >> No, he's telling me I'm holding.
24:45 >> Never mind, never mind.
24:48 Come on, it's meant to be won, this.
24:51 Come on.
24:53 Let your hands go.
24:54 >> It's hard to argue with anything that Dennis Power's saying in that corner.
24:58 >> Yeah, it's good.
24:59 >> The corner works if he wants, cuz he's spot on.
25:03 He's obviously getting a little bit frustrated.
25:04 He knows that Daykers is slowing things down, they're getting the control and
25:07 the pace.
25:08 And he wants Webster, he's fine too, he knows he can work a lot harder than this.
25:13 And he's just allowing Daykers to control things,
25:15 especially in that last round.
25:16 So he knows Webster's got to work harder, and
25:19 that's why it's frustrating for the coach.
25:21 >> There's a bit of a father son element about the ticking off.
25:25 You're not even breathing, have you?
25:26 Don't keep looking over here when you're in the clinches.
25:29 >> That was great.
25:29 >> [NOISE]
25:35 >> Yeah, cuz he wants him to work,
25:36 you see.
25:37 >> That's better, see, on that double jab again.
25:40 Webster, he gets that into play.
25:43 >> [NOISE]
25:53 >> Daykers again,
25:57 just trying to control at his distance behind that jab.
26:01 Webster just allowing him to do that,
26:02 this is what the coach is all about.
26:04 >> Yeah, Webster wants him to get on that front foot, double that jab up, and
26:07 put Daykers under a little bit more pressure.
26:09 >> [NOISE] >> Up the work break,
26:11 go through the gears a little bit more, that's what he wants from Webster.
26:15 >> [NOISE] >> Daykers hasn't shown a great deal of
26:21 power as a professional to this point.
26:23 Two stoppages in the seven victories that he's had.
26:27 He's two years older than Webster at 30, Webster 28.
26:30 >> [NOISE]
26:40 >> It's a bit like a calm before the storm,
26:42 this, isn't it?
26:43 When you think about the fact that you've got Liam Davis who's promising
26:47 a quick ending in the next one.
26:49 In his European and WBC International Superbantamweight title defense.
26:53 And then we've got Nick Hall against Dogway,
26:54 that can't be anything other than a stare down, stand up,
26:58 knock him down and drag him out kind of fight.
27:00 And then Healy against Bentley finishes things off.
27:03 >> [NOISE] >> Webster looking to do more work, but
27:08 he was just tagged on the way out there by that right hand from Daykers.
27:11 >> [NOISE] >> Better work from him though going
27:14 forward, Daykers has shown how dangerous he can be with the odd single shot.
27:18 >> [NOISE] >> And again,
27:20 Daykers' chin's in the air, hands are low.
27:24 Trying to control things at distance with that long straight right hand.
27:28 >> [NOISE]
27:38 >> A few seconds of the seventh round,
27:48 every round's been fought at a similar pace.
27:50 >> [NOISE]
27:52 >> It's never really been an outstanding
27:54 round to this point for either of them.
27:56 Neither man really able to take a firm grip on the fight.
27:59 >> [NOISE]
28:03 >> Daykers having a shot right at the end
28:04 of the round.
28:05 >> [NOISE]
28:15 >> This is inside Denzel Bentley's
28:18 dressing room.
28:19 The co-main event tonight up against Nathan Healy defending his British
28:25 middleweight title, Healy's WBA continental middleweight title belt.
28:29 He's on the line as well, but there's a man who feels if he comes through tonight,
28:32 he wants to get back into another world title fight.
28:34 Did really well when he fought against Yanivek in the world title fight.
28:40 And the crowd inside the arena are just seeing Nathan Healy's image on the big
28:44 screen and his supporters from Stoke and there's gonna be lots of them,
28:47 very noisy ones in the arena tonight.
28:50 Looking forward to seeing him, it's the biggest night of his career.
28:53 He's done everything right to this point, but
28:55 it's a massive step up for him tonight against Bentley.
28:57 >> Massive step up, but he'll need the crowd behind him.
28:59 It's gonna be a cracking atmosphere, you just never know.
29:03 >> I say this every time we see him, Richie,
29:05 if you've never seen a Nathan Healy ring walk before when he comes out to Delilah,
29:09 make sure you're with us for that one.
29:10 >> Brilliant, yeah.
29:11 >> Very good.
29:12 >> It's the Nathan Healy supporters just starting to find their voices,
29:17 having a bit of a practice before they leave to cheer their man in all around
29:21 the arena now.
29:22 >> Dakers just caught there with his head high again.
29:25 Three rounds to go in this one for the English heavyweight title.
29:30 Tight one on the cards, I presume.
29:32 >> Yeah, it is, but Webster's still ahead though, Fletch.
29:36 I think Dakers has got to start working a little bit harder.
29:40 And most of the times he's making mistakes just with those low hands and
29:44 coming away from Webster and getting caught.
29:47 He's starting to get into gear now, is Dakers.
29:51 But it took a long time for him to get going in this one.
29:54 >> Congratulations.
29:56 >> Thank you.
29:57 >> [APPLAUSE]
30:07 >> This is fighting in the eighth round
30:11 for the first time,
30:11 haven't been past four in any fight to this point of his career.
30:16 Michael Webster, so he's in uncharted territory the rest of the way.
30:20 Only he knows how he's gonna cope with it.
30:21 We'll probably find out tonight on the fly.
30:24 I mean, so far the tag looks pretty full.
30:25 There doesn't seem to be an issue in there in terms of stamina.
30:28 He's still doing now what he was doing in the early stages.
30:31 And it hasn't really been a fight.
30:32 There's been too much of a physical test, a stamina test at this stage.
30:36 >> The Webster corner won't be happy either.
30:38 He's just waiting far too long.
30:40 Michael Webster again, just allowing Dakers just to get back into it.
30:44 >> With the odd shot here and there, Webster's got to do a little bit more.
30:49 That's a good better shot there from Dakers.
30:53 Not to like I said, cuz Webster's throwing the odd jabs here and there.
30:56 But he's not doing too much and he's not responding to his corner.
31:00 His corner wanted him to get on that front foot.
31:02 You heard what his coach says, it's there for the taking, this is.
31:05 But he's just lapsed a little bit.
31:08 Maybe he's feeling the pace, I don't know.
31:10 >> Dennis Tower couldn't have been clearer.
31:12 >> Well, he issued instructions to Michael Webster.
31:15 So far, they've not really been carried out in the manner that the chief second
31:19 was hoping.
31:21 But Dakers is relatively comfortable in there.
31:25 >> [INAUDIBLE]
31:35 >> Just a bit of a mark under the right eye of Webster as well.
31:40 >> He's starting to get a bit of a swelling under there.
31:44 >> The double jab again from Webster, he's done it twice there.
31:47 He hasn't followed it through.
31:48 Gotta follow that through with that right hand.
31:51 It's a good attack with the double jab, but need the right hand after,
31:53 especially with Dakers with the low lead hand that he's got.
31:56 >> [NOISE]
32:01 [SOUND]
32:02 >> And there's the bell.
32:03 >> [NOISE]
32:08 >> Time to get down to business then for
32:11 Nick Ball.
32:12 Everything he's done so far in his professional career has gone according to
32:15 plan.
32:17 Very impressive when we saw him on the undercard of Tyson Fury and
32:19 Dillian Wighton and he stopped Isaac Lowe.
32:21 And from that point, his career's really kicked off from there.
32:25 >> Yes, I've been watching him spar, actually.
32:26 He's been sparring Kalia Fah up in Sheffield and doing some good spars.
32:30 And what I like about him, he's relaxed and I've said this to many people,
32:35 he tends to throw hard shots late in a contest.
32:38 Stays relaxed.
32:39 He's a better boxer than what people give him credit for.
32:42 He's not just a banger.
32:43 He sets up his work behind his jab.
32:46 He's got good head movements and he's an explosive counter puncher also.
32:50 So yeah, he's going places.
32:52 >> I think you can expect a fight for a world title in the not too distant future
32:56 as well. So lots at stake for him and
32:58 Isaac Duffey.
32:59 Two fights time, you'll see then.
33:01 And then, Healey Bentley to finish it all off.
33:04 >> [NOISE]
33:06 >> There's two to go in this one for
33:08 the English heavyweight title between Solomon Bakers and Michael Webster.
33:12 You're tempted to say the calm before the anticipated storm.
33:15 >> Yeah.
33:16 >> Yes, it's probably been the quietest fight of the night so far.
33:21 We've been spoiled in those opening contests.
33:23 >> [NOISE]
33:26 >> Couple of good shots there from
33:27 Bakers that went in, a left hook and a right hand.
33:29 That just stunned Webster just for a split second.
33:32 >> [NOISE]
33:34 >> Good left hook on the break as well from Bakers.
33:36 >> Can't help feeling that Webster at the moment is his own worst enemy because all
33:39 he's doing is doubling up the jab and then nothing else.
33:42 There's nothing that comes after it.
33:43 He's not gonna win the fight by doing that.
33:45 >> [NOISE]
33:47 >> I think it's the back of his mind.
33:48 He's not been the ten rounds before.
33:50 There's only been four rounds, remember.
33:52 First ten round, just saving himself.
33:54 >> [NOISE]
33:57 >> But you know, we get to the ninth and
33:58 tenth round and it still looks pretty fresh.
34:01 But he's just been picked off there with that left hook again from Bakers.
34:04 So it's better work from Bakers, but he's needed it.
34:07 You know, still got Webster slightly in front here.
34:09 There's not a lot in the contest, but he's getting back into it, Bakers.
34:14 >> [NOISE]
34:24 >> Bakers proving elusive in there at the moment.
34:32 Rocking back and keeping himself out of range.
34:35 What's happened now, Fletcher, is Webster's feet have slowed down.
34:39 And that's just allowed Bakers now, just to pick him off as he's coming forward.
34:43 So the attacks are slower, basically.
34:46 And that's allowing Bakers to look to catch him with shots like that.
34:49 Look how slow his feet are now, Webster.
34:51 And Bakers is coming back with better punches.
34:54 >> There's a better right from Webster to sneak through there.
34:56 They're not exactly hurtful punches from Bakers, but
34:59 they're scoring shots, aren't they?
35:00 >> There are a lot more of them now than there were in the early half of the fight.
35:04 Final minute here of the penultimate round.
35:06 So Solomon Bakers' round to this point.
35:09 >> [NOISE]
35:17 >> He's never really had the confidence,
35:18 Webster, has he, to do what he's caught and have been asking him to do.
35:21 He's always kind of held himself back in there.
35:23 >> [NOISE]
35:24 >> Yeah, he may kick himself and
35:26 then look back at this contest, knows he should have worked harder here and there.
35:29 But it's all experience.
35:30 This is only his tenth contest, remember.
35:33 >> [NOISE]
35:39 >> Baker is landing significantly more
35:41 punches in this round of the two and a better work from him.
35:44 A bit more rhythm about him now later in the fight.
35:46 >> [NOISE]
35:49 >> Is he just sensing that Webster's
35:51 just feeling the pace a little bit?
35:53 Much better in this round, Dakin, he's thrown more shots.
35:56 Bigger punches have come from him.
35:58 >> [NOISE]
36:06 >> So let's have a listen into
36:07 the corners between rounds.
36:08 And we'll start with Dennis Power and
36:10 see what he's got to say to Michael Webster.
36:12 >> [NOISE]
36:19 >> Breathe, breathe, breathe.
36:22 >> [NOISE]
36:27 >> You're waiting for him.
36:29 You're waiting for him.
36:30 >> Michael, last round, touch gloves.
36:31 >> Yeah, yeah.
36:32 >> You're waiting for him.
36:34 >> Enjoy this last round, Michael.
36:35 Come on, have a go, mate.
36:36 >> Yeah.
36:37 >> Get your hands going.
36:38 >> When he's resetting, just go.
36:40 Just put your hands together, punch him, breathe.
36:42 Deep breath.
36:45 How you feeling?
36:47 Come on, then.
36:47 >> Big round, Sol, come on.
36:50 >> Sol, you need to be fine.
36:51 >> Corners, ten seconds.
36:53 >> Well, they seem to think that Dakers needs a big round.
36:55 The Dennis Power's message in the Webster corner hasn't changed.
36:59 >> [INAUDIBLE]
37:02 >> You're right, Fletcher, it hasn't.
37:04 Just a bit of frustration.
37:08 And he knows Webster, I think they both realize,
37:11 they both feel that they need a big round here.
37:14 Both corners seem so, that would suggest that it's close.
37:17 >> And it is close, it could go either way, couldn't it?
37:19 >> I'd be amazed if it's not close.
37:21 I mean, how he could score this wide, I'm not really sure.
37:25 >> Final round, English heavyweight cycle on the line.
37:28 How close, we'll find out, but it can't be a wide margin either way,
37:31 you wouldn't have thought, because most of the rounds have been pretty even.
37:35 >> They have indeed.
37:37 I think Dakers has certainly come into these last two or three rounds,
37:40 he's worked a little bit harder.
37:42 >> [NOISE]
37:49 >> He's-
37:50 >> [INAUDIBLE]
37:50 >> Yeah, he's on the back, pushing.
37:51 >> Yeah.
37:52 >> Actually pushing rather than punching.
37:54 >> [NOISE]
37:56 >> Kieran McCann, the referee,
37:57 in there, Howard Foster, Steve Gray, Kevin Parker, the three judges.
38:01 >> [NOISE]
38:03 >> This could be-
38:05 >> This is his last warning,
38:06 the point is not coming up.
38:07 You know, one more time.
38:08 >> [NOISE]
38:09 >> Well, it's his last warning, and
38:11 Kieran McCann was quite clear, and one thing he doesn't wanna do at this stage,
38:14 is have a point taken off, because that could be catastrophic in a fight that we
38:17 expect to be close.
38:17 >> [NOISE]
38:20 >> Gotta watch what he's doing there,
38:21 Dakers.
38:22 >> [NOISE]
38:24 >> Again, look, so he's just gotta watch him
38:26 in there.
38:26 >> [NOISE]
38:27 >> Okay, he just naturally lifts his arm
38:29 off his forearm, and puts it into Webster's, into his throat area.
38:35 >> That's a good shot by Webster, and another one.
38:38 Left hook followed up, the right hand initially started it all, and
38:41 then he walks on to a short left hook after it.
38:43 >> Yeah, that's a better work, better work there from Webster.
38:46 Left hook did the business there.
38:49 >> And again, Dakers, low hands, that right hand of his also pretty low as
38:53 they're in close, again, there with the forearm, gotta watch what he's doing.
38:58 >> Because if he comes through tonight and steps up the levels,
39:00 he's gotta fix that, hasn't he?
39:01 Because the better heavyweights are gonna pick him off with that shot,
39:05 much more than Michael Webster's been able to do tonight.
39:08 >> [NOISE]
39:10 >> Tonight, Dakers is defensive,
39:11 left hook, left hook on the break, I don't think Webster was expecting it.
39:15 Kieran McCann say, well, I didn't tell you to stop.
39:17 >> No, he didn't say break.
39:20 >> I think he'll stop.
39:21 >> There's a good right as well, but just stiffen the legs momentarily of Webster.
39:25 This is a strong finish here from Dakers.
39:27 Landing the better punches in the tenth and final round, into the final minute.
39:31 >> [NOISE]
39:33 >> First real sign of distress in there for
39:36 Michael Webster.
39:37 >> His own doing really though, Richie, because he completely switched off.
39:40 >> Yes, he did switch off there, and if the referee didn't say stop or
39:43 break, then you can hit your opponent.
39:45 >> That's what Dakers has done.
39:48 I think Webster was expecting the referee to say stop or to break, and he didn't.
39:54 So Dakers caught him.
39:55 >> [NOISE]
39:57 >> That's a look at a try and
39:58 land that left hook.
39:59 Dakers comes back with a shot of his own.
40:02 This is it, you see, the forearm again, he's gonna get a point taken.
40:05 >> Yeah.
40:06 >> A point taken away from Solomon Dakers in the final few seconds of
40:11 the tenth and final round.
40:14 Now, how significant could that be?
40:17 In a close fight, we think it's a close fight,
40:19 because we haven't seen the judges' cards.
40:21 But a fight you'd expect to be close, that could be hugely significant, Richie.
40:26 >> Massive, yeah.
40:26 >> Go for it, you're going for it now, last few seconds.
40:30 >> And there's the bell.
40:31 Well, I think they'll both look back on that and say, I could have been better.
40:36 And we're gonna go to the judges' cards, Howard Foster, Steve Gray, and
40:39 Kevin Parker.
40:41 And we will wait and see just how significant that point that was deducted
40:44 in the final round will be in the final counter.
40:47 >> Yeah, it's a shame, isn't it, for
40:49 Dakers, seemed to be warming up, especially in that last round.
40:52 But he hasn't fought well tonight, Solomon Dakers,
40:55 I've seen him much better than that.
40:57 And Webster, that was his first ten rounder.
41:01 But you can't say that the referee didn't warn Solomon Dakers a couple of times and
41:05 said this is the final warning.
41:07 And still, that forearm went into the face of Webster, and
41:10 he's taken the point off, it could be crucial.
41:12 >> Let's have a look at these indiscretions then from Solomon Dakers.
41:19 That's the first one, Richie, where he just pushes that forearm into the face.
41:24 >> Pushes the forearm, and then the referee's telling him also not to do it.
41:28 And then again, look, again there.
41:30 And the referee, that's when he actually give the warning, isn't it?
41:36 Yeah, he took the point off.
41:38 But he told him a couple of times.
41:40 >> So he's gonna wait now and see what the impact of that is.
41:46 Cards of Howard Foster, Steve Gray, and Kevin Park have been collected and
41:51 counted here at ringside.
41:53 Both of them unbeaten, remember, 7-0 Solomon Dakers, 9-0 Michael Webster,
41:59 who came into the fight on short notice.
42:00 He was having the right attack read by his chief second pretty much between every
42:05 round, and was never able to do what Dennis Power wanted him to.
42:08 But he's got the feeling of a tight one, Richie, hasn't it?
42:11 >> Yes, it has indeed.
42:13 Obviously, I think Webster, for coming in on short notice,
42:16 is pretty well there, hasn't he?
42:19 Well, here we go.
42:20 >> [INAUDIBLE]
42:22 >> Not quite ready yet.
42:23 The box is ready in the center of the ring.
42:27 Thomas Tribe is just having a look at the scorecards, and he is ready.
42:30 So let's find out who's won it.
42:31 Thomas.
42:36 >> Ladies and gentlemen, after ten rounds of boxing,
42:39 we go to the judges' scorecards.
42:42 Judge Kevin Parker scores it 95 to 95, even a draw.
42:48 Judge Howard Foster scores it 96 to 93.
42:54 And Judge Steve Gray scores it 96 to 94,
42:59 both in favor of your winner by majority decision.
43:05 >> And still English heavyweight champion,
43:11 Solomon, the Real Deal, Dakers.
43:16 >> So Solomon Dakers defends his English heavyweight title via majority decision.
43:22 The first judge had it scored a draw.
43:25 The second two came down in Solomon.
