00:00 >> Can I roll questions?
00:01 >> Yes. >> AP, Vic is one of the best in the business,
00:04 and he did some things today that he has not done before with a rookie quarterback
00:09 that hasn't had a whole year to prepare.
00:12 I mean, I know there are no excuses, and I'm not trying to make any, but it's also reality, is it not?
00:16 >> Yeah, I mean, learn a lesson for all of us.
00:18 I'll start with AP, right?
00:19 Learn a lesson for me, for Bo, for Aiden.
00:23 We've got to do a better job managing the game.
00:24 Not put him in those situations where, you know, Aiden has to win the game.
00:28 And that starts with me.
00:30 >> Any positives to take away from a loss like this for a young team, a young quarterback,
00:34 a young coach?
00:35 >> I think offensively, we got a lot of things to look at, and we'll do that.
00:39 For our team, I think we fought, I don't know, 20 points.
00:42 Defense battle, special teams played well.
00:45 You know, we won a player or two back here and there.
00:47 And again, on offense, you know, you're talking about a game of inches,
00:49 maybe a yard or two on some throws that, you know, are explosive scores.
00:53 And we just didn't make it.
00:54 At the end of the game, we're on plus territory with a chance to tie it up, maybe win it.
00:58 And we didn't get it done.
00:59 >> Plus territory, the first half, had a couple timeouts,
01:02 then pushed towards the end zone.
01:03 Can you walk us through just the kind of the mindset of the end of the first half,
01:06 a lot more aggressive?
01:07 >> Yeah, I just wanted to protect the young quarterback.
01:08 You know, just wanted, you know, we're gonna get points on the board.
01:11 If we have that opportunity, didn't want to have anything that would be a negative for
01:15 us.
01:15 I just felt it was in our best interest to go into halftime.
01:18 Kind of the game we wanted, we wanted to be kind of ugly and gritty a little bit.
01:20 And that's where it was getting to, and I felt we were in a good place at that time.
01:24 >> You had a hard time getting the running game going.
01:25 What did you see as far as that match was going?
01:27 >> They did a good job, a lot of movement up front.
01:29 You know, a little bit of different looks here and there, not much, but
01:33 just enough to throw us off.
01:35 And then, you know, we were behind the sticks, we were behind the sticks, and
01:39 that made it difficult.
01:40 You know, we'll get back to you when we go to the drawing boards and
01:43 get, you know, gotta get JJ going.
01:45 First two wins, 25 plus touches, 14, whatever it was, not good enough.
01:49 >> That makes it harder to run an eight man match?
01:52 >> Without a question, we don't want to be the opposite.
01:54 We don't want to have 40 plus throws in 20 runs.
01:56 That's not our kind of football.
01:59 >> What was your overall assessment of O'Connell's play?
02:00 >> We gotta look at it.
02:03 Before I make that statement, I think we gotta look at one thing.
02:06 We just gotta do a good job with the football.
02:10 Gotta do a good job with the football, and that's again,
02:11 that starts with the coaches.
02:12 We're gonna prep them, get them ready, make them understand the situation in
02:15 football.
02:15 But again, young player, we'll get better, and we gotta go back to drawing boards.
02:20 >> The defense forcing those turnovers, and the fourth and
02:23 one there inside the five yard line, just the crucial moments there.
02:26 >> I thought the defense, at times you was wondering,
02:30 some explosive plays going down there.
02:32 We see like every time we got to the fringe,
02:33 those guys kinda like they tightened up a little bit.
02:35 And guys stood up and sound football turnovers, whatever it may,
02:39 more physical up front.
02:40 I thought they did a good job, especially the first half.
02:42 There's some opportunities, you're like, okay, he went for it.
02:44 We had to stop him, fourth down.
02:46 Coming out after half, interception,
02:48 giving ourselves an opportunity to have a chance to win.
02:51 >> You mentioned some missed throws.
02:53 That one was a glass drive, the second player,
02:55 the block down the other side.
02:56 I think, have you had that one, or
02:57 is that a play you're looking at, is one you may have missed?
03:00 >> Yeah, I think there's a few plays out there, I think everybody saw that we missed.
03:04 Can't take them back, they're out there.
03:06 We gotta do a better job connecting, obviously.
03:08 It didn't go right, the ball didn't bounce out, but one else.
03:13 >> I mentioned earlier, no moral victories, and
03:15 I get that in the National Football League AP.
03:18 But the pride of your guys, the fight that you saw down double digit dog.
03:23 Can you just talk about that for a moment, please?
03:25 >> Yeah, I mean, that's what we talk about every day, pride and poise, passion,
03:28 respect for the game, playing the game the right way.
03:31 And guys did, they played hard.
03:33 Played hard, does that get you Ws?
03:35 No, but it gives you a chance to win games.
03:38 And I think that's what we did.
03:38 We gave ourselves an opportunity to win the game under a minute, plus territory.
03:43 And again, there's no moral victories.
03:45 Guys, look at us, keep the chins up.
03:48 And we're gonna be the same way, win, lose, or draw.
03:50 We'll go back to work on Tuesday and get after it.
03:51 >> Sounds good.
03:54 >> Thank you. >> Thank you.
