00:00 As for those who are surprised to see the magnitude 6.8 earthquake in Mindanao,
00:06 we will now go to the newsroom to update the government's response.
00:11 We will be brought to you live in the newsroom with Bea Bernardo.
00:15 Angelic, the government is continuously providing assistance to our affected countrymen who were hit by the 6.8 magnitude earthquake in Mindanao.
00:29 In the new Philippines, NDRRMC Deputy Spokesperson Mark Timbal said that more than 12,000 individuals were affected by the strong earthquake.
00:39 Of this, 500 are from Region 11 and 12,000 from Region 12.
00:45 This number is equivalent to more than 2,000 affected families.
00:50 Family food bags and shelter kits were given to the local government and national government to the victims.
00:57 Our countrymen who were hit by the earthquake also received medical help while 15 were injured.
01:03 More than 800 houses and more than 100 infrastructures were damaged due to the strong earthquake.
01:09 On the other hand, Timbal said that the lifelines of the affected regions have been returned,
01:14 including electricity and telecommunications signals.
01:18 According to the monitoring agency, more than 100 aftershocks were reported since last Friday.
01:25 NDRRMC instructed the local governments to discuss declaring a state of calamity following the earthquake.
01:34 We believe in our local governments because their declaration is based on their appreciation of the efforts of their local government unit.
01:44 Timbal also assured that the national government will provide full support to the LTOs if they declare a state of calamity.
01:54 Meanwhile, the agency said that the effective earthquake drill was conducted just a few days before the earthquake.
02:02 The fourth quarter national simultaneous earthquake drill was conducted.
02:06 Timbal said that they saw the Filipinos doing what they learned in the drills, especially the duck, cover and hold.
02:14 We saw that there are women who really protected themselves.
02:20 Others also ducked, covered and held. They protected their heads from the falling debris.
02:26 What they did was right.
02:28 We are glad that they learned in our nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill that they were the ones who conducted it.
02:36 Meanwhile, NDRRMC reminded our fellow Filipinos to be vigilant whenever there are earthquakes and to be careful in the earthquake drills conducted by the government.
02:50 Angelique.
02:51 Okay so Bea, there are houses that were destroyed. What support is the government providing to those who lost their houses?
03:00 [Music]
03:07 Angelique, the NDRMC and local governments are currently conducting an assessment to determine the size and scope of the damage.
03:16 And how much help our fellow Filipinos will need to provide financial support to the houses that were destroyed.
03:25 But there are times and hours before the local government provides financial support.
03:31 But now, Timbal said that they are helping our fellow Filipinos who lost their houses.
03:37 Angelique.
03:38 Okay. Thank you very much Bea Bernardo.
