00:00 There's a couple ways to look at this win.
00:01 One, Niners are back.
00:03 They've won two in a row.
00:04 That three-game losing streak was a blip.
00:07 They blew out the Jaguars.
00:09 They handled the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
00:10 no matter how it looked.
00:12 And forget that losing streak, it's all over.
00:14 They're great.
00:15 They're a championship team.
00:17 Or you say, Niners really kind of backslid a little bit
00:23 from last week.
00:24 Last week, they played up to a standard.
00:27 Last week, they played great.
00:29 They didn't play down to their opponent.
00:32 They blew them out.
00:33 This game was different.
00:35 The Niners played their best for 60 minutes against Jacksonville.
00:39 In this game against the Buccaneers,
00:41 it seemed like they played their best for 17 minutes.
00:44 And that was good enough to beat them by 13.
00:46 I mean, that's good enough.
00:48 But I think with the Niners, a team that
00:50 has yet to win a Super Bowl and talks about a championship
00:53 standard and a championship culture,
00:56 we'd like to see them uphold it for more
00:58 than a week at a time.
00:59 And this wasn't it.
01:00 It was a win.
01:01 But you can't look at this game and be like, oh, yeah,
01:04 that's definitely the team that's
01:04 going to win the Super Bowl.
01:06 Because they beat the Buccaneers,
01:08 who were in it till the very end, when they shouldn't have.
01:11 So let's recap what the Niners did.
01:13 They let them hang around.
01:15 It was 10-7 late in the first half.
01:16 And then the Niners were like, OK,
01:17 let's stop messing around.
01:18 This is sort of like what the Warriors would do sort of
01:21 towards the end of their dynasty.
01:22 They were getting a little bit older.
01:23 They played a lot of basketball.
01:25 They're like, look, we're not going
01:26 to show up until the third quarter.
01:28 And then we're going to destroy you in the third quarter
01:30 and not really play in the fourth quarter.
01:31 So instead of playing four quarters,
01:33 we'll play one and beat you.
01:35 That's sort of what the Niners did today.
01:37 They're like, look, it's a long season.
01:38 We're the fourth oldest team in the league.
01:39 We proved ourselves last week.
01:41 We're not going to give that same type of effort this week.
01:43 We're not going to live up to that standard this week.
01:45 But we turned it on.
01:47 They scored 17 unanswered points.
01:50 They made it 13-7 before halftime.
01:55 They put up another 14 unanswered points.
01:56 So 17 total unanswered points.
01:59 And then they acted like the game was over.
02:01 Took their foot right off the gas
02:03 and let the Buccaneers come back in the fourth quarter.
02:07 Now, I know the Niners probably won't do that
02:09 against better teams.
02:10 But to me, they pat themselves on the back
02:14 too much for their championship culture.
02:16 That was not an example of it.
02:18 That was just beating a bad team.
02:20 Bucs have lost five to six.
02:23 The Niners have won two of their last five.
02:25 Great.
02:27 But I'd like to see the Niners slam
02:29 the door on the Buccaneers like they did the Jaguars
02:31 a couple of weeks last week.
02:33 And it seemed to me that they were good enough to slam
02:36 the door on the Buccaneers.
02:38 They're talented enough, smart enough, well-coached enough.
02:41 They just didn't do it.
02:43 They didn't feel like it.
02:44 They didn't have the inclination to live up to their standard.
02:47 They just won.
02:48 It's fine.
02:50 But again, we're looking at this team.
02:52 Are they finally going to break through
02:55 and prove that they have a championship culture,
02:57 or are they kidding themselves?
03:00 That looked like a very talented team that
03:02 wasn't living up to whatever championship culture
03:04 they think they've established.
03:06 Whatever standard they think they have,
03:07 it didn't look like they hit that to them.
03:09 And you either come away from this game saying,
03:11 hey, Van Tampen's better than I thought,
03:14 or you think, Niners are a little suspect.
03:18 Niners are a little suspect.
03:19 That punt return they gave from the fourth quarter,
03:21 Baker Mayfield right at the goal line, that team stinks.
03:25 They can't run the ball.
03:27 They have a couple--
03:27 they had no tight end.
03:28 And they made it a game.
03:34 So I don't know.
03:34 Maybe it doesn't mean the Niners are
03:36 going to lose to the Eagles in a couple of weeks,
03:38 but I don't see how a Niner fan watches this game and says,
03:42 OK, we're getting better.
03:43 Or a non-Niner fan watches this game
03:45 and says, that's the Super Bowl favorite right there.
03:48 Maybe.
03:50 Maybe.
03:51 I don't know.
03:53 Would have liked to see him finish off the bus.
03:55 For a change.
