The Las Vegas Raiders Antonio Pierce entire Monday press conference Kansas City Chiefs week.
Transcript
00:00 Yeah, I think two halves, right?
00:04 First half, execute, move forward,
00:06 and one or two, maybe throw some here,
00:08 which we have.
00:10 And second half, as we know,
00:12 we need a pressman in this situation.
00:14 We need a pressman.
00:16 We talked about it, it's going to be obviously
00:18 a great learning lesson,
00:20 not just for Aiden, but for myself.
00:22 What position?
00:24 How we allow the flow of the game.
00:26 So, not to have that kind of
00:28 pressure. Not to have that kind of pressure.
00:30 It's a team effort.
00:32 It's a team
00:34 appointment as well. It's not on Aiden.
00:36 Aiden wouldn't lose a game if it was on Aiden.
00:38 Aiden does no need to care about it.
00:42 Quarterback's number one job.
00:44 It will get better.
00:46 When it is a rookie quarterback,
00:48 especially starting kind of mid-season,
00:50 you have all your goals set,
00:52 but at the same time,
00:54 I think you have to accept the fact
00:56 that there will be some growing pains.
00:58 There probably are going to be some growing pains.
01:00 Quarterback, I think, kind of walked those two lines.
01:02 But, that's what you want the team
01:04 to kind of rally around the guy.
01:06 You look around the National Football League, a lot of young quarterbacks
01:08 play there. A lot of guys struggle with their quarterbacks.
01:10 Some guys do it really well.
01:12 And, you know, two days, you do it well.
01:14 That one half, that wasn't, it didn't go great as well.
01:16 And again,
01:18 I talked about it, you know, our leaders
01:20 up front, Cole Miller,
01:22 Trades,
01:24 Jacobs, they all
01:26 run around the guy. Don't have rough days like that.
01:28 Office, after point three,
01:30 anybody, you can't do that.
01:32 You have to move them in.
01:34 Nothing, not
01:36 specifically, but hypothetically, we have a rookie
01:38 quarterback. What
01:40 kind of time frame do you have? Do you know whether he's
01:42 your guy or whether you need to look elsewhere?
01:44 It depends, though.
01:46 Find out at six point.
01:48 And then, you know,
01:50 see what happens with AD.
01:52 I know it's easy to second
01:54 guess, but looking back at that last drive
01:56 before half, I know you said you wanted to kind of protect the
01:58 quarterback. Do you still feel that way after looking at the film?
02:00 I think not just the quarterback, but just
02:02 our defense as well. They were good in the ball.
02:04 In the second half, they were explosive.
02:06 Office had three, two timeouts, excuse me.
02:08 Our philosophy
02:10 on certain days is to play a certain way.
02:12 That clock and where it was
02:14 and where the field goal was.
02:16 We wanted to take as much time off the clock as we could.
02:18 Play to stay out, right? So we do that.
02:20 Go and convert the first down,
02:22 keep the field goal. They don't concede.
02:24 They throw the ball and complete a 30-yard pass.
02:26 The timeout. So you can see they were
02:28 very aggressive in their goal. And we knew that
02:30 we didn't want to have any more seconds on the clock.
02:32 So that was the philosophy there. And obviously,
02:34 never get the ball back in the second half.
02:36 Didn't want to give them any other opportunity.
02:38 As a player,
02:40 coming off a loss,
02:42 Yeah, I mean, it's hard.
02:48 Especially if you've got five hours to think about it.
02:50 I think the one thing I did was just
02:54 reflect on what
02:56 First of all, I think you've got to reflect on what you did well.
02:58 If what can you correct?
03:00 What was the mistakes? Why did you make that mistake?
03:02 And to be honest, it's a 24-hour rule.
03:04 For us,
03:06 it's even shorter. We're going to practice
03:08 for tomorrow.
03:10 Other guys are pushing out their system.
03:12 Just like we embrace wins,
03:14 we embrace the losses. Learn from them.
03:16 And doing that
03:18 was just a journey for myself and the team.
03:22 We undefeated. But that's not what happened.
03:24 I'm a rookie.
03:26 But more importantly,
03:28 get back to it, it's the National Football League.
03:30 They lost
03:32 to the world champions.
03:34 The world champions and the chiefs
03:36 and the Eagles.
03:38 So we knew we had to up to a challenge,
03:40 but there was no excuse. There were no mistakes.
03:42 Guys kept on pressing. We were wearing the coat.
03:44 We were playing by the heat. We were playing by the travel zone.
03:46 Guys strapped up to play.
03:48 We went out there and we gave ourselves the opportunity.
03:50 Fourth quarter, three times, we kind of gave
03:52 away.
03:54 You said multiple times yesterday, there's no moral victory.
03:56 But considering how the defense did
03:58 play against the Dolphins, what kind of
04:00 optimism does that bring to you going into the
04:02 Chiefs, when another is supposed to fall?
04:04 We know we did really well.
04:06 We know we did do well, especially against
04:08 a team like Kiel.
04:10 We're going to deal with that with Kelsey.
04:12 We're going to deal with that with Kelsey. We're going to deal with that with Kelsey.
04:14 We're going to deal with that with Kelsey.
04:16 We're going to deal with that with Kelsey.

04:28 We're going to deal with that with Kelsey.
04:30 We're going to deal with that with Kelsey.
04:32 We're going to deal with that with Kelsey.
04:34 We're going to deal with that with Kelsey.
04:36 We're going to deal with that with Kelsey.
04:38 We're going to deal with that with Kelsey.

06:52 We're going to deal with that with Kelsey.
06:54 We're going to deal with that with Kelsey.
06:56 We're going to deal with that with Kelsey.
06:58 We're going to deal with that with Kelsey.
07:00 That'll be the plan.
07:02 Everybody knows there's no end in gender.
07:04 That's what basketball is all about.
07:06 A couple penalties.
07:08 That's a fairly big play as well.
07:10 A couple penalties.
07:12 That's a fairly big play as well.
07:14 A couple penalties.
07:16 Just another reminder of avoiding those things in order to not get yourself in those kinds of situations.
07:18 Just another reminder of avoiding those things in order to not get yourself in those kinds of situations.
07:20 Just another reminder of avoiding those things in order to not get yourself in those kinds of situations.
07:22 Especially early on in the game.
07:24 They all happen to us in the first half.
07:26 We get a sack by Koonce.
07:28 We get a big run by JJ.
07:30 We get a big run by JJ.
07:32 We get a holding call.
07:34 We get a holding call.
07:36 We get a holding call.
07:38 That's frustrating.
07:40 That's frustrating.
07:42 I think what the guys did in the first half,
07:44 I think what the guys did in the first half,
07:46 three penalties in Giants, three versus Jets,
07:48 and five last week.
07:50 The numbers are going down.
07:52 We want to keep it at 300.
07:54 It happens, especially on the closer plays.
07:56 It happens, especially on the closer plays.
07:58 That obviously extends to the offense.
08:00 That obviously extends to the offense.
08:02 I think it starts with the coaches.
08:04 I think it starts with the coaches.
08:06 Understanding who our personnel is.
08:08 Understanding who our personnel is.
08:10 Understanding who our personnel is.
08:12 And then the players buy into what we're doing.
08:14 And then the players buy into what we're doing.
08:16 That's the big thing.
08:18 How do you buy in?
08:20 You've got to have success.
08:22 As you start to have success as a team,
08:24 how do you set certain things up?
08:26 Patrick Ramsey did an outstanding job with that.
08:28 I think he was on a cool display yesterday.
08:30 I think he was on a cool display yesterday.
08:32 They got us early in the game.
08:34 They got us early in the game.
08:36 Think about that fourth down stop.
08:38 Think about that fourth down stop.
08:40 Think about the turnovers.
08:42 Think about just living in the running game.
08:44 Think about just living in the running game.
08:46 Number two is difficult to stop.
08:48 When you get guys like Roberts,
08:50 When you get guys like Roberts,
08:52 blue collar guys, Kingston,
08:54 blue collar guys, Kingston,
08:56 you start to build this tight group.
08:58 you start to build this tight group.
09:00 You have to pry for one another.
09:02 You don't want to let each other down.
09:04 That's what we talked about.
09:06 That's what we talked about.
09:08 That's what we talked about.
09:10 That's what we talked about.
09:12 That's what we talked about.
09:14 I did.
09:16 I did.
09:18 I did.
09:20 He's very efficient in the game.
09:22 Here's a guy, you know, he's not as good.
09:24 He starts to get all the reps.
09:25 He's probably got a handful of reps, but you can tell he came in right away with a very impactful run game.
09:30 And obviously he has traits that the back end is going to cover a lot of ground for him.
09:34 So, we love to start seeing him get going, and that combination with Epps,
09:38 Trey Vaughn, and the teamwork back in the mix.
09:41 He's the type of guy to back him.
09:43 It's always easy to second guess, but how difficult was it to make the decision on fourth down to go for it instead of trying to keep it?
09:50 Earlier in the game, I tried to keep the field goal.
09:53 Fourth quarter, I'm in possession, so I'm going to get out of it.
09:56 I can kick one field goal, go for another one, I still need to touch down and win.
10:00 Hold that offense down, you get three outs.
10:02 There's a lot of factors that go into it, but I told my team we were all in.
10:07 We went down here, and we played a win.
10:16 Another guy you've worked directly with the past two seasons, he's a Masters and he's also a course of fumble.
10:20 Can you just talk about the progression of him, undrafted looking at it, what he's doing now?
10:25 Yeah, very similar, right?
10:27 High school to college, quarterback to senior, then goes to play safety for a couple years,
10:30 which is a linebacker, comes here, we work together, does an outstanding job,
10:34 but he changes his body, he looks like a linebacker now.
10:37 I didn't really trust him as a third linebacker.
10:40 He wants to be a starter, he's playing that way, he's very -- people will go in here,
10:44 make him plays, just shows up, he flashes here and there, he'll get better and better.
10:48 But here's a young guy that last year played a lot and started as a baseman,
10:52 and now when something happens, he can gobble or when his play needs to take a break,
10:56 he goes in, he can be a free shot, he can put both the mic in, of course.
11:00 Hats off to him because he studies the game and plays the game the right way.
11:04 Does Blaine know what a break is?
11:07 I hope he doesn't because I don't know about the game either.
11:10 But I told you guys a while back, blue collar, old school, you sit here and look at him,
11:16 you can tell he's battered and bruised and he's just, "Nope, not coming out, no,
11:20 nope, can't breathe, no, want to keep going, can't have a no phone, can't have a no phone.
11:25 Can't have a no phone."
11:27 Do you have an update on Colton Miller?
11:29 No, we do not.
11:30 Actually, you guys are coming in today, the game officer,
11:32 Colton was coached last week.
11:35 I'm hoping he'll get on the board back this week.
11:38 That's good.
11:39 All right.
