What We Learned About Georgia in Dismantling of Tennessee
Transcript
00:00 It is Monday though, and I have film observations for you
00:02 We just had over 800 people in the video or the live
00:06 Premiere video of our film study that debuts obviously on Monday nights at 7 o'clock here
00:12 But I've got our overview our general notes from today's study that I want to dump on you guys right here right now
00:18 Carson Beckman, holy smokes
00:20 Excuse me. I think the arm talent is starting to really flash
00:24 I think people are still are finally starting to see some of these balls that he's throwing
00:29 That shouldn't be thrown with the zip that he's throwing him with right we closed the film study with that skinny post that he threw
00:35 To Marcus Rossini rose me Jack Saint man. He threw that ball like a five-yard slant, bro
00:40 He threw that ball like it was from me to the camera right now
00:44 It was an absolute missile about ten yards off the ground as tight as can be
00:49 Was was playing against some zone coverage Saturday from a Tennessee unit guys
00:53 That's really old an experience like they weren't just playing slapdick coverage out there Saturday
00:59 It wasn't just holes open galore
01:01 Carson Beck was playing on time was throwing balls
01:04 Decisively was throwing balls with tremendous pace and acceleration and was just putting balls on dudes face mask
01:12 For an entire football game essentially so much so that I think we had our first career Brock Bowers drop
01:18 It may be second or third drop the second and 18 ball hits him right off the chin strap
01:23 He just wasn't expecting the foot. Yeah, Kirby. I mean it just got on him too quick. Yeah
01:27 No, the only other drop I remember was in the 2021 SEC Championship, and I was when they were literally just in the second half
01:32 Like alright, we're just gonna feed Brock Bowers
01:34 He had a drop like I think it was the last drive at the game before that loss
01:37 But other than that, he's been mr. Share hands for sure. So it's been fun to watch. It's been an interesting day to watch
01:43 I've never seen him be. Oh, you didn't get your head around quick enough. You weren't ready for that football
01:48 That's not that guy, you know typical standard drop
01:50 So what you talked about alluded to that SC championship game tough play every once a while
01:54 You might let one slip very rarely. Do we see this guy just not prepared for a football day?
01:59 I don't think he expected like I said to arrive on him as violently as it did Saturday again
02:04 The arm the arm talent is really really starting to flash
02:08 This is something that the people in the know knew about this man
02:11 This was a guy that came in early enrolled in
02:14 2019 during those Baylor bowl practices and
02:18 From day one the moment this kid started throwing footballs inside the building. Everybody was like, holy shit
02:24 We might have us one right?
02:25 We might have one of these guys that throws the football like a Sunday guy not a guy who's out here that needs to make
02:32 processing decisions perfectly or manage games like Jake from or a
02:37 Guy that you know just makes plays with his legs and in this extreme playmaker
02:42 It's real savvy and it makes the team play above themselves because he does no no
02:47 No
02:47 This was a guy that they knew from day one six five two thirty was gonna come in and rip the laces off the football
02:53 And that's exactly what he's done over the last several weeks pretty much all year
02:58 But over the last several weeks
02:59 I've really seen him throw with confidence and a tremendous amount of pace with footballs gas dog empty in there again
03:06 You got to be a doctor to be throwing the kind of super sub money that our guy gas dog MD
03:10 Been throwing in that super so I think he's on like a five-day streak at this point
03:13 I think he is on a five-day streak and I hope and pray his wife
03:16 Is okay with all assuming he does have a wife okay with all the financial
03:22 You know freedom and liberties that he's been taking here in our super sub chat, which again we are more than thankful for
03:28 Gracious gas dog empty, but let's continue on these notes. I
03:32 Watched Tennessee concede. I haven't seen a lot of teams do this to you guys over the last eight years nine years
03:39 I watched a football team on the defensive side of the ball
03:43 Concede that they weren't going to stop you Saturday. That's exactly what happened
03:49 I watched the defense that wants to be a man pressure team say oh shit. We can't do that today
03:53 They're way too good. They are going to bludgeoned us to death
03:57 They are going to gash us and leave us bleeding out on the floor if we continue to play man pressure like we want to
04:03 So they dropped in zone and now all of a sudden it's like alright. Well shit. I'm just gonna make every right decision right quick
04:10 I'm just gonna facilitate the rest of the day and we're gonna be you know
04:13 I think 245 yards in the first half is what he had he's actually on Saturday
04:18 So yeah, you watched a defense basically say
04:22 We're not we're not gonna stop you today
04:25 We're just gonna try to keep you in front of us today and hope that your right tackle or your left guard or your somebody
04:31 So hope that somebody messes up causes a 10-yard penalty
04:34 Now you're in second and 20 and hopefully we can actually get off the field at that point
04:39 But we're not gonna try to play our normal defense. We're gonna concede today
04:43 Not only did they do that on the defensive side of the football
04:46 You saw them do that on the two-minute drill right before the half
04:49 Tennessee's got the ball with less than a minute a minute and a half left and they're squatting on the damn thing in the middle
04:55 Of the field because they are petrified of
04:57 Georgia's defense our offense what what world are we living in?
05:02 We're living in a world ladies and gentlemen where the number one team in the country has
05:06 Has opposing defenses petrified of their offense that is not the team that has won national titles over the last two years
05:13 Okay at the University of Georgia, they've been serviceable people have talked about this offense as the secondary nature. They lead with the defense
05:20 Y'all watched an offensive football team in Tennessee an offensive culture in Tennessee say no, sir
05:28 We cannot do this today. We have to squat on the damn football
05:31 That was Wow to me on Saturday
05:35 So that was interesting as well to watch
05:40 Carson to wrap the bow on it played lights out. He would have been 25 or 30 or 25 of 30 Saturday had Oscar
05:46 Delp not dropped a football that looked a little bit
05:49 I mean, he looked surprised that he even came back to him all the way across the field at that point
05:53 But all that said, okay all that said we're gonna talk about the Heisman Trophy in just a little bit in the national hour
06:00 All that said he's still too boring
06:03 He's still too boring for national analysts to be out here pounding the table for Carson Beck to win a Heisman
06:08 We still got people doing the it was Michael Pennix. It was a rain game. It's okay, right?
06:14 We still got people doing the look at what Bo Nix is doing year six. I understand it
06:18 All right, we still have all the a Jane Daniels putting up video game numbers all all other talking points
06:24 Okay, and all above hell
06:26 I saw a national reporter and Brett McMurphy does great work today put out a list of four and put Marvin Harrison
06:33 Jr's name on that ballot as opposed to Carson Beck and guess what Brett McMurphy has Brett McMurphy has a Heisman that a Heisman Trophy
06:40 Vote so these things matter how you go about playing the game of football matters with that type of award
06:47 And I know he doesn't care. I know you care. I know Georgia fans care a little bit
06:52 It means something to you
06:53 Okay
06:54 It should because you haven't had one since 1980 despite the fact that you've been one of the nation's best football programs
07:01 Basically every year except for about a 10-year span in the 90s
07:04 Okay
07:04 You've been in the run and in the mix and yet you can't seem to get one of your guys out here for this
07:09 And here's why okay
07:11 You just don't care to do this
07:14 Your head coach does not care
07:16 He doesn't so in the midway through the fourth quarter for what the third or fourth time this year
07:20 Carson Beck does not have a passing attempt
07:23 That's just what it is. That's what it's gonna be
07:26 This football program just doesn't really care about winning those awards right? They're just effective and efficient. They're not flashy
07:33 They won't be at that position
07:35 Until maybe next year next year and last year you had these moments at the quarterback position if car assuming Carson Beck leaves
07:42 I just slipped up. It's not gonna you next year
07:45 You very well could have Carson Beck back but assuming he goes like we're gonna talk about a little bit tonight
07:49 Assuming he does go next year
07:51 It's back to flash and pizzazz assuming it's Brock Vandegrift for Gunner Stockton or whoever wins the job, right next year
07:57 It's back to that this year. It's chicken and rice, baby. It is boring decision-making. I find it fascinating
08:03 Y'all watch me do that. I had juice for 55 minutes watching that sucker throw the football
08:08 I love it national analysts don't it just seems a little bit too boring for them
08:13 295 24 for 30 three touchdowns. No turnovers a drubbing doesn't really impress. Okay. It is what it is
08:20 I thought this offensive line Saturday struggled to reset the line of scrimmage exactly like we thought they would
08:27 Okay, number 10 and number 21 for Tennessee
08:29 They are fire plugs
08:31 And if you noticed earlier to start the football game
08:33 Tennessee decided they were gonna play both of them and here's what you should know
08:37 And here's what I thought I did a good job of explaining on film study
08:40 Years past Georgia just would have been like, all right. Well shit. We're just not gonna run the football. Well today
08:46 We're gonna run our head against this brick wall. We're gonna do it for the purposes of doing it
08:50 We're gonna do it for the purposes of remaining balanced today during this football game because we don't want to become one-dimensional
08:56 That's what they used to do. They used to just line up and say bang bang bang bang bang, whatever
09:01 Well Saturday, they realized they couldn't reset the line of scrimmage. So what did they start to do?
09:05 Immediately immediately this has not been a counter football team this year. They start running counter
09:11 All right, they can't run it up the middle immediately. They start running truck sweep. They can't run it up the middle immediately
09:17 Arian Smith jet sweep. Okay. What are they doing? They're attacking edges. They're still remaining balanced
09:23 They're still running the football. They're doing it creatively and they're finding ways to help their guys win. I get so
09:30 freaking
09:32 frustrated when
09:34 offensive defensive coordinators or head coaches come to the podium after a football game and they say we just got to do a better job of
09:41 Executing no shit Sherlock. Thanks a lot for that one
09:44 What you also have to do a better job of is allowing or calling plays designing concepts to help your football players
09:52 Execute Saturday Georgia's offensive line could not reset the line of scrimmage
09:57 So what did my bobo and the offensive coordinating staff do? Well, let's stop asking them to do that
10:02 Let's start asking them or allowing them to block with some angles block out on the edge get out in space
10:07 Block small guys with little guys. Hey, that's coordinating
10:11 That's good coaching and in years past that that's been the difference man
10:15 It's been the difference over the last three or four years
10:17 You no longer just do shit because you do shit nowadays you do shit because you know, it's gonna work
10:23 Like that's good coordinating from top to bottom
10:25 That's how you go from scoring
10:27 34 35 points a game in conference like they did prior to the Todd Munker regime to now
10:33 You're scoring 40 points a game. All right, and you're really putting it up and you're stressing teams
10:38 Constantly making them really execute over a litany of different things. I thought the pass protection was extremely elite
10:44 Okay on Saturday barring the left tackles not the left tackle struggled a little bit both tackles
10:50 I should say struggled a little bit except for Marius not gonna struggle much at all this year
10:54 Thought both of the other tackles really struggle with James Pierce's speed rush
10:59 Something to pay attention to in Dallas Turner and the matchup coming in Atlanta, but I'm gonna be honest with you
11:04 Nobody's really blocked 27 this year
11:06 He's kind of been able to run past people with pretty much a ton of freedom out there
11:11 So I was okay with the way that they handled Tennessee's offense our defensive line
11:16 I should say I thought the offensive line played relatively well
11:18 Protection like I said was really really especially interiorly
11:22 Cedric Van Praan continues to just impress impress impress
11:26 But the man of the game in my opinion outside of the quarterback position you guys already know it was Dylan Bell number 86
11:33 Robert Thomas goes out with a bone bruise and you know the story of Wally Pip, right? I'm sure you've heard it
11:38 Yeah, remind the audience. All right. Hey good producer note right there, baby
11:42 Um, so Wally Pip was the first baseman before Lou Gehrig
11:46 All right
11:47 and Wally Pip goes out with a sickness one day and then Lou Gehrig goes out there and Lou Gehrig starts like the
11:52 It was a Mickey Mantle whoever it was a famous Yankee. They go out there start first base the rest of the time
11:57 You'll never hear about Wally Pip ever again. Okay, so
12:01 What I'm trying to tell you is Robert Thomas was very very serviceable for 11 games at the exposition
12:07 Really about seven games. It took him about a month to really get warmed up
12:11 But man look like hey
12:13 This was gonna be a guy and Dylan Bell during that time was playing running back and he was helping this roster out where they
12:19 Needed to help him out balancing some of that
12:21 Missing pieces that were there from Lamma khaki earlier in the year not being 100% available
12:26 All this good stuff was helping out the roster where they needed him to
12:30 But Saturday Saturday when Robert Thomas went down with a bone bruise in his foot
12:35 Dylan Bell assumed the role as the X receiver
12:38 They bumped Marcus or semi Jack Saint seemingly to the Z spot letting Dylan do most of the hey
12:44 You're out there by yourself when we motion to three by one and I'll be damned if he didn't come out there
12:50 And I mean, it's one thing to catch the back shoulder balls
12:53 It's one thing to take the top off the defense, which is what Robert Thomas did
12:58 But there's also Kirby something about that alleviates pressure on the offense when I can just say hey if I throw that guy a slant
13:05 That's some bitch might take it 65
13:07 Like when Dylan had the ball in his hand on Saturday, it was a noticeable difference in just in terms of electricity
13:13 It felt like every time he touched the ball you were holding your breath whether he was catching it or running or even throwing it
13:19 He was he was truly a triple threat that game and it was something that you haven't seen from a guy like that before
13:25 So it was very impressive to watch I wrote in my notes that dude Saturday was electric at the exposition
13:31 Or I feel like rah-rah Thomas is extremely efficient at the exposition
13:36 You might get nine for 90 from rah-rah
13:39 But what if we can get seven from one fit for 150 from Dylan Bell?
13:44 You see I'm saying like that that type of difference man
13:46 That could really help you in a game that might come down the road in January or in December where hey
13:52 We might have to score 45 points today. The defense hasn't done. What would they normally do? Right?
13:56 We actually have to go go go go go
13:58 I think their ability and what they found out Saturday was that Dylan Bell just might be able to be that quote-unquote guy
14:06 I thought the other thing that was noticeable and I went back and listened to the TV copy
14:10 If you listen to the TV copy you can noticeably hear Carson Beck's clap, right?
14:15 You can hear the clap on the road. Okay, and what that is
14:20 That is the the the sound bulb. Okay over on the sideline picking that up
14:26 All right. Now they tone down some of the crowd noise. It obviously doesn't it's not, you know directly proportionate
14:32 But as someone who stood on the sidelines Saturday for a little bit of a portion of this football game
14:36 I know it sounds like silly analysis. The dudes claps extremely loud
14:41 Yeah
14:41 Like it is very very loud and it's noticeable it cuts through the sound and if you don't know if you can't tell that it
14:47 Cuts through the sound again. Listen to the TV copy. That is the sound bulb
14:52 40 yards away 30 yards away all the way on the sideline pick it up his clap
14:58 It's cutting through the sound noise and I are the crowd noise and that right there has been something that on these road trips and again
15:05 They're not gonna play in another one of these hostile environments the rest of the year now
15:08 It'll be neutral fields moving forward. It'll be a sellout crowd. Thanks to the Georgia Bulldog fans in Atlanta this weekend
15:14 Oh, yeah down at Bobby Dodd aka Mark Rickfield and that's what it'll be
15:19 But the way that this dude's ability to cut through the noise and control the line of scrimmage
15:25 Has been noticeable in the two major road games they play this year
15:28 Yeah, obviously up in the box
15:29 You can't hear the clap at all, but there haven't been many if at all pre snap penalties
15:34 The only one this week was a Cedric Van Praan rolling back a little bit early and they had no pre snap penalties against Auburn on
15:41 The road so yeah, so I mean whatever he's doing is working perfectly well obviously from the box
15:46 You don't get as good of a look at it
15:47 But he's clearly mastered that down and like you said on TV copies you can hear it clip crystal clear so
15:53 Chats already showing some love to Andrew smart Andrew smart. He's there. He deserves on segment man's going back viral again
16:00 We'll talk about him a little later
