00:00 >> A lot of guys talk about how much you do on the field and how that comes from
00:04 a lot of time spent filming, how much knowledge you have.
00:07 We notice you're always the first defensive player to come in the game,
00:11 always, for the last two seasons.
00:14 What do you do with that 20 plus minutes before everybody else gets out?
00:18 >> Yeah, well, I just like to be early.
00:20 I've always grew up an early person.
00:21 I like to go down there, warm up, strike, or whether that's, excuse me,
00:27 striking the sled or little things like that, working on my tackling drills with
00:31 some of the coaches that are already out there, so.
00:34 >> How do you see that's gotta be an hour extra just before practice?
00:39 >> Yeah. >> Have you seen that pay off for you?
00:42 >> Yeah, I've seen that tremendously pay off.
00:43 Just little things like it showing up in the game, you know what I mean?
00:47 Some of the techniques that I like to do before practice,
00:50 I'm seeing that show up in the film room when I'm reviewing the game.
00:53 So yeah, I think just continuously just practicing those little things,
00:57 I wanna just master those things so I got them fully down.
01:00 >> So it would not be a stretch to say that your improvement as a tackle,
01:03 the whole defense has been attacking this year, but you have 50-year rhythm.
01:08 It would not be a stretch to say that that's partially due to the extra-weekly.
01:11 >> 100%, yeah, no doubt.
01:13 >> What's the team's feeling going into this game, and
01:14 is it different at all than last year?
01:17 >> No, I mean, it's fully the same mindset, you know what I mean?
01:20 It's a huge rival, it's really bigger than us, the history of the state of Oregon and
01:25 then the history between these two schools.
01:27 And then constantly every year just having that battle between these two schools.
01:31 So I think just bringing that message across to some of the new guys that are
01:36 new to this program that are gonna contribute to this game is letting them
01:39 know that this is serious.
01:40 >> You faced a lot of talented quarterbacks this season.
01:43 What has DJ done, what has he seen him do for the Beavers this season?
01:46 >> Yeah, he's 100% changed that offense from last year, you know what I mean?
01:50 He's back there, he's comfortable, he's making the checks, and
01:53 he's got them rolling on a high note right now.
01:55 >> Say anything to Mateo this week, just cuz it's a unique circumstance that we're
02:01 gonna end the game for that matter, and he's the one doing the hitting potentially.
02:05 Say anything to Mateo specifically about going after his brother that's
02:08 kind of part of this game?
02:09 >> Yeah, just a little bit.
02:10 I mean, I was kind of joking about it right after the game.
02:13 I think it was the Sunday after the game I had seen Mateo.
02:15 I was kind of joking about it, but
02:17 I think that's something that he's always looking up forward to, so.
