00:00 G'day I'm Paul, so Porsche has just dropped the new Cayenne
00:04 and I thought we'd go through some of the exterior,
00:06 the interior and the engine changes,
00:08 along with pricing for Australia.
00:10 But the good thing with Porsche is it's now on sale,
00:12 so you're able to go into your Porsche dealer
00:14 and start putting your money down if you want to.
00:16 Now you can skip ahead to other parts of this video
00:18 if you do want to using the time codes on the screen,
00:21 or if you're on YouTube, you can scroll down
00:22 and use the chapters below.
00:23 And if you haven't done so already,
00:24 subscribe to our channel and press the bell icon as well
00:27 so you can find out whenever we publish one of these videos.
00:29 But let's get straight into it.
00:31 Yeah, because this is all hot off the press,
00:34 I'm actually reading most of this
00:35 from the press release here,
00:37 just so I can go through it all with you.
00:38 And I've got the iPad here as well,
00:40 so we can have a little look at some of the changes
00:42 as we run through them.
00:43 So Cayenne, as a bit of background,
00:45 is one of Porsche's best-selling models.
00:47 And the whole reason for that is people want SUVs,
00:49 they're buying SUVs like crazy,
00:51 but they also want SUVs with a Porsche brand on them.
00:53 And as a result of that, they sell like hotcakes
00:56 because you get kind of best of both worlds.
00:58 And when you do drive them, you really do tell the difference.
01:00 They do share platforms though,
01:02 with other vehicles in the Volkswagen group.
01:04 So it is worth noting that some of these engines
01:06 and some of the bits and pieces that you see here
01:09 are shared with other Volkswagen group products.
01:11 But a lot of this stuff is actually unique to Porsche,
01:13 which I'll run you through in just a second.
01:15 So what has changed?
01:17 We'll start off with the exterior.
01:19 And look, the Cayenne was never a bad-looking car,
01:22 but I think they have kind of refined it a little bit there
01:25 and just given it a bit more of a smarter appearance.
01:27 You can see there with the headlights,
01:28 they've changed a little bit.
01:29 They've narrowed down.
01:31 They have a similar design there to the Taycan
01:33 with those stripes within them.
01:35 You can also see down the bottom section as well,
01:38 that a lot of that has changed.
01:39 It has become a bit more resolved and a little cleaner there.
01:42 Down the side of the car as well,
01:44 you can see changes here to those side skirts as well.
01:46 They aren't sort of massive,
01:48 but there are changes there nevertheless.
01:50 Something else worth pointing out as well
01:52 with these headlights is a new digital headlight setup.
01:56 So we have seen this with other brands,
01:58 such as Mercedes-Benz.
01:59 They debuted it with the S-Class.
02:01 Porsche has now gone down the path
02:02 of doing something similar here,
02:03 and it's quite interesting.
02:04 So the way they've described it is a HD matrix LED setup.
02:09 So that's very impressive stuff,
02:10 but they go into a bit more detail here
02:12 in terms of how it works.
02:13 So two high-definition modules,
02:16 and there are 32,000 pixels per headlamp,
02:19 which is incredible.
02:20 And to give you an idea of what a pixel is,
02:22 if you have a laptop or something at home,
02:23 and if you look really close on the screen,
02:25 you can see those individual pixels
02:26 that make up that screen.
02:27 With a new sort of iPad like this,
02:29 it's a retina display, and they're tightly packed.
02:32 Whereas here with the headlight,
02:33 you used to have just the pixels
02:34 that were the actual globes.
02:36 Now you have effectively 32,000
02:38 of those globes per headlamp.
02:40 So two of those across the front of the car there.
02:43 What they can then do is shut down individual pixels
02:45 or banks of pixels as you're approaching another vehicle.
02:48 It means that your car can be in high beam,
02:50 and then it shadows the car in front,
02:52 and it means that you're not actually blinding anyone
02:54 as you're following them.
02:55 The brightness of these modules,
02:56 according to Porsche, can be regulated
02:59 in more than a thousand ways,
03:00 depending on the driving situation.
03:01 So pretty advanced headlight technology.
03:03 It says here that it's optional,
03:04 so it'll probably cost you an arm and a leg
03:06 to actually get it on the car.
03:07 But I love the fact that they have offered it,
03:09 and that you can option it if you do need to.
03:11 Now I did read with interest as well,
03:12 in terms of wheels, they go all the way up to 22 inches.
03:16 And that's probably an important thing to note,
03:19 because they've made some changes to the suspension
03:22 and the way this whole thing works beneath the skin.
03:24 So you have in the base model, steel spring,
03:27 and with steel spring, you actually have a damper there
03:30 that has PASM, which is Porsche's
03:32 Active Suspension Management setup,
03:34 and it means it's an adaptive damper,
03:35 and it's a new shock absorber with two valve technology,
03:38 which means there's separate rebound and compression stages
03:41 that allow optimised performance in all driving conditions.
03:44 So typically with these cars,
03:45 I wouldn't go down the path of a steel spring,
03:48 because you're kind of compromising the car's ability
03:50 to be a performance and comfort car at the same time.
03:54 But typically Porsches are generally quite comfortable,
03:56 can still go down the path of air suspension,
03:58 and according to Porsche here,
03:59 you have new adaptive air suspension
04:01 with two chamber, two valve technology.
04:03 So that will be air suspension
04:05 with an adaptive damping setup in there as well.
04:07 So in terms of the ride, all the way up to 22 inch
04:10 alloy wheels and then the ability
04:11 to get yourself air suspension as well.
04:13 Let's have a look at the rear.
04:14 They've changed the rear here as well.
04:16 Obviously this debuted with a coupe,
04:19 and that's going to remain now as well.
04:21 I'm not a huge fan of the coupe personally,
04:24 and I know that styling is subjective.
04:25 I do prefer that sort of standard SUV look,
04:28 but coupe has certainly become
04:30 a much better looking vehicle.
04:31 So you can see there with those taillights,
04:33 kind of adjusted the way that looks.
04:34 It's a 3D effect now with the taillights.
04:36 They've got those two stages there as well.
04:38 You can see there's the bottom one just there,
04:40 and then the top section right above that as well.
04:43 And then if we have a look a little closer there,
04:45 I do love the way that they have the Porsche lettering
04:47 under their big diffuser down the bottom there as well.
04:50 There are changes to the engine for the K&S
04:52 that I'll run through in just a second,
04:53 but outside of that, it's all sort of fairly inoffensive
04:56 here in terms of the design of the coupe.
04:58 This is what the standard SUV looks like from the rear.
05:02 So slightly more resolved, and again,
05:04 that LED element that runs all the way across the back there
05:07 and a slightly less aggressive diffuser there
05:09 for the entry level K&N.
05:10 This one obviously has what appears to be optional wheels
05:13 on it 'cause they look nice and big,
05:15 but overall it's actually not a bad looking design at all.
05:19 Other changes to the lineup exist here with the Turbo GT.
05:23 So we reviewed this a while back
05:25 and I was genuinely blown away with how this performed.
05:28 It is out of this world in terms of its pace,
05:30 performance, and noise.
05:32 Huge, huge fan of it.
05:33 If you do wanna check out a review of that,
05:34 you can click up here, but visually the changes there,
05:37 you can see this is far more aggressive down the front there.
05:40 Same sort of adjusted headlight design there as well.
05:43 This is a very aggressive looking car.
05:45 It is only available as a coupe, unfortunately.
05:47 I would have loved to see the Turbo GT available
05:50 just in the standard SUV form,
05:52 but this does look pretty damn aggressive.
05:53 Have a look at that boot lip spoiler just there
05:55 and then the Turbo GT badging along the back.
05:58 Not a huge fan of this twin exhaust setup.
06:00 And let me know in the comments section below,
06:02 do you prefer a quad exhaust setup?
06:04 I understand they're trying to sort of mimic the 911 here
06:06 in terms of that exhaust setup,
06:07 but to me, I just think the quad setup looks more aggressive
06:11 and kind of dictates to people that you are driving
06:13 something pretty impressive there.
06:15 Rest of this looks great, optional carbon pack
06:17 fitted to this car by the look of it
06:19 and gold down the side there with those gold wheels too,
06:22 which I absolutely love the look of.
06:24 Okay, so let's go to the interior
06:26 and I'll twist my iPad around now.
06:28 This has already been revealed previously,
06:31 but this gives us a much closer look
06:32 at what Porsche has done here.
06:34 And I'm a big fan of this huge step forward for interior
06:38 and we'll start off on the right-hand side.
06:40 So this is an optionally available display
06:44 that we have seen previously on Taycan.
06:47 It's a 10.9 inch display.
06:48 It sits here on the passenger side,
06:50 has a special coating on it as well,
06:52 which means the driver isn't able to see it
06:53 from their side of the car.
06:55 Look, I love the fact that this is in here,
06:56 but to be honest, every time I've tested this
06:58 in something like a Taycan,
06:59 it's been kind of a pointless feature.
07:01 You play with it once
07:02 and then you don't really touch it again
07:04 because it just seems a bit sort of clumsy to have it there.
07:07 I do like that they are experimenting with that technology,
07:09 but it is what it is.
07:11 Up the top here, not new, but I just love Sport Chrono.
07:14 I think that if you are buying a Porsche,
07:15 you have to get Sport Chrono for that.
07:17 Stopwatch up the top there, that looks really cool.
07:19 But the main centerpiece to the infotainment changes
07:21 are these two screens.
07:22 So you've got one here
07:23 and you've also got one here ahead of the driver.
07:26 Run you through the driver one in just a second,
07:27 but the one here that is central to the cabin
07:30 is a 12.3 inch display
07:32 and it comes with the car's sort of
07:33 standard infotainment setup.
07:35 It's a capacitive touchscreen.
07:37 In there, you're gonna find native applications
07:39 like Spotify and Apple Music.
07:40 So they're going down the path of Tesla
07:42 by integrating those apps into the car.
07:44 So you don't necessarily have to have smartphone mirroring
07:46 to run everything.
07:47 Uses an embedded SIM that allows you to listen
07:49 to Spotify and Apple Music.
07:51 It's unclear at this stage
07:52 whether they will give you an account with it
07:54 because with Tesla, all you do is click the button
07:57 that says use Tesla account
07:58 and it will allow you to run Spotify
07:59 without having the Spotify account.
08:01 And that comes standard with a subscription
08:04 that you pay $10 a month for.
08:05 This screen here on the Porsche
08:06 is generally pretty good.
08:07 Every time I've used one of these,
08:08 it actually works pretty well.
08:10 You can also see a video tab there as well
08:12 with what looks like the YouTube symbol.
08:14 Wi-Fi up the top there as well.
08:16 So you can have a Wi-Fi service in the car
08:19 for your passengers too.
08:20 Let's jump over to the screen ahead of the driver
08:24 because this is not only familiar, but very cool setup.
08:27 So this is a 12.6 inch curve display.
08:30 We have seen this previously on Taycan.
08:33 That's where they debuted this
08:34 and it is such a cool screen.
08:36 So my understanding is it's an OLED screen in the Taycan
08:39 and I think it's going to be OLED here as well.
08:42 That allows them to do that curved setup
08:44 and it just gives it a lot of vibrance
08:46 and a lot of definition as well.
08:48 So it's incredibly high definition
08:49 when you're revving and stuff like that.
08:51 It doesn't lag like it does in some cars.
08:53 It is just crisp and quick and accurate.
08:55 They've also now mounted some of the controls
08:58 that you regularly access closer to the driver.
09:00 You'll see over here that they've got the gear stick
09:02 now there instead of in the center of the cabin.
09:05 That means you're able to select that
09:06 without having to take up too much space
09:08 there in the center of the cabin.
09:09 Down here they've got lane departure system
09:12 integrated there within that stalk.
09:15 I don't know, every time I've used or driven a Porsche,
09:18 I know that you'll probably get used to it pretty quickly,
09:19 but the stalk is sometimes a little bit hard to use.
09:22 I just think it's easy to have steering wheel buttons,
09:24 but as you can see here on the Turbo GT model,
09:26 you kind of just want to reserve that
09:27 for all the go fast things,
09:29 like your sport response button there
09:30 and the drive mode selector.
09:32 Nice Alcantara or race text trim
09:34 on the steering wheel there as well.
09:36 It's worth pointing out as well,
09:37 there's new screen down the bottom here
09:39 for climate controls.
09:41 They've also retained mechanical switches too.
09:43 So you can see here with things like your temperature
09:46 and fan controls, you have those knurled switches there,
09:49 but there's also a screen that backs onto that.
09:51 So you can kind of say that that's a lit up there
09:54 and it gives you a bit of definition
09:55 with storage down the front there.
09:57 And also at the back there, 12 volt outlet just there.
10:02 If you've seen our review of the Macan,
10:03 they hide that under the actual cup holder.
10:05 It's nice to see that's actually visible.
10:07 Now let's talk about some of the engines that you can get.
10:11 And we'll start off here with the entry level Cayenne.
10:14 So with that as for the Australian market,
10:17 it's going to debut with a new V6 engine.
10:20 So according to this, the six cylinder engine
10:22 will be the base of the Cayenne range.
10:24 And it's basically an optimised version
10:27 of the three litre V6 turbo that's currently available.
10:30 Now it generates 260 kilowatts of power,
10:32 500 Newton metres of torque.
10:34 So that's up 10 kilowatts of power
10:36 and 50 Newton metres of torque
10:37 over the previous generation of Cayenne.
10:41 When you step up to the Cayenne S,
10:42 they've ditched the V6 entirely and it now runs on a V8.
10:46 So that means the V6 is gone.
10:48 It's now using a four litre twin turbocharged V8,
10:51 makes 349 kilowatts of power and 600 Newton metres of torque,
10:56 25 kilowatts and 50 Newton metres up on its predecessor.
10:59 And it'll go from zero to 100 in 4.7 seconds,
11:03 which is not too bad.
11:05 There is also an E hybrid version
11:07 if you're into that type of thing.
11:08 So that uses a new electric motor
11:10 and teams with that six cylinder petrol V6.
11:13 It's now up in terms of the electric motor
11:15 by 30 kilowatts to 130 kilowatts.
11:18 And the combined output has increased
11:19 to 346 kilowatts of power,
11:22 which is only just short of the Cayenne S.
11:26 So it gives you an idea of how potent that setup is.
11:28 The high voltage battery has also increased
11:30 in size from 17.9 kilowatt hours to 25.9 kilowatt hours.
11:35 So it's a plug-in hybrid vehicle,
11:37 which means you can charge it using a PowerPoint
11:40 and then you can drive it just on EV solely,
11:43 or if you do run out of battery,
11:45 it then kicks on the internal combustion engine.
11:47 You also have different drive modes as well.
11:48 So you can use the internal combustion engine
11:50 to charge the battery, or you can hold battery charge.
11:53 There are a number of different scenarios there.
11:55 They've also put a new onboard charger.
11:58 So it's 11 kilowatts.
11:59 So it's a three phase onboard charger,
12:01 which means it will actually reduce
12:02 the amount of charging time you have there.
12:04 Basic maths here, if you're running at 11 kilowatts
12:06 and it's a 26 kilowatt hour battery,
12:09 that's going to be about sort of two and a half hours
12:11 to charge at that maximum pace.
12:13 Now the big boy.
12:14 So, Turbo GT, this always gets me excited.
12:18 Again, twin turbo charged V8.
12:20 It's increased by 14 kilowatts of power
12:23 to 485 kilowatts of power.
12:26 And it now accelerates from zero to 100 Ks an hour
12:28 in about 3.3 seconds.
12:30 So there's some pretty incredible numbers.
12:32 And just as a reminder, that Turbo GT,
12:35 when I mentioned platform sharing and that kind of thing,
12:37 this vehicle shares an engine with stuff like the RS Q8,
12:40 Lamborghini Urus.
12:41 It really is quite a versatile engine.
12:43 They've used across the Volkswagen group.
12:45 And here in the Turbo GT,
12:47 it is just mental in terms of its performance.
12:49 I remember when we did our zero to 100 run,
12:51 when we tested the current generation of that,
12:53 and it was just out of this world.
12:55 And the sound was crazy as well.
12:56 So I'm very excited for that.
12:58 (car engine roaring)
13:02 Now let's talk pricing for Australia.
13:11 Of course, as with all Porsche products,
13:14 there are a number of different option packs you can get.
13:17 There was even a sports pack here, they mentioned,
13:19 that's able to reduce the weight of the vehicle
13:21 by over 30 kilos.
13:23 So I think it shows you there
13:24 that they are really sort of focused on
13:26 improving the weight of these
13:27 and also improving the performance as well.
13:29 The range is gonna kick off in Australia from $140,200.
13:34 So it is a step up in price.
13:36 The Coupe is an extra $8,000 on top of that.
13:39 If you go to the E-Hybrid,
13:41 which is the next step up from the Cayenne,
13:43 that's 155 grand.
13:44 So about 15 grand more than the base car.
13:46 And again, extra money for the Coupe.
13:49 Going to a Turbo V8,
13:50 it's gonna set you back $181,000,
13:53 an extra 10 grand for the Coupe.
13:55 And if you go to the top of the range Turbo GT,
13:57 which is Coupe only,
13:59 that is gonna cost you $366,000.
14:02 So let me know what you reckon
14:04 about the design of the new Cayenne.
14:06 I know that it's not a brand new platform,
14:09 but the changes they've made here
14:10 really do refine this as quite a premium proposition
14:14 that really will deliver the goods
14:15 in terms of performance.
14:16 And I'm very excited to have a drive.
14:18 So let me know in the comments section below,
14:20 what do you think about the pricing,
14:21 some of the features they've launched with?
14:22 Do you think it was enough of a change?
14:24 I'm keen for your feedback.
14:26 If you did enjoy this video,
14:28 please make sure you share it with your mates.
