00:00 G'day, I'm Paul. Have you ever wondered what happens if you press the power button in an EV while it's driving?
00:06 Does it all just suddenly stop? Do you still have control? Who knows? That's what we're going to find out today.
00:12 So let's hop in and give this a shot. Okay, now let me explain what we're going to do and what we're in.
00:18 So this is the Kia EV6. It's the entry-level version of the EV6, so single motor, rear-wheel drive.
00:25 This has a start button. Some EVs, like the Tesla Model 3, you hop in and drive and you don't need to do anything else.
00:31 So this actually has a start button. So I'm going to push that while we're driving to see exactly what happens.
00:36 Okay, so what I'm going to do is put it into drive, get it up to 80 k's an hour.
00:43 I'm going to then switch the car off and we'll see what happens. Here we go. So
00:48 accelerating up to 80 k's an hour.
00:54 Okay, so there it is there.
00:56 So it doesn't do anything.
00:58 Okay, there it is. So it's off now. It says it's in neutral. I can't accelerate. I can brake. Let me see if it has ABS.
01:05 No, it doesn't. It basically just locked the brakes up there and now the car has completely switched off.
01:14 It's put itself into park when I came to a complete stop. So interesting. Okay, so I'll see if I can turn that back on
01:21 and put it into drive. Yes, that all works. One more thing
01:25 I want to test here. If I get it back up to 80 k's an hour, what happens if I pull the emergency brake?
01:30 So let me get this up to speed.
01:33 Get it up to 80.
01:36 Switch the car off. There it is. It's in neutral.
01:44 It's very slowly slowing down. I've literally just pulled the emergency brake here and
01:49 it's very slowly coming to a stop and then it's put itself back into park again. So that's really cool.
01:55 So when the car is off, it still allows you to just drive it as you normally would. So I
02:00 didn't think that would happen. I would have thought it would come to a stop or something like that.
02:04 So yeah, it is good to know that button can actually shut everything down and you do still have some control over the car.
02:11 Well, there you go. Who says you don't learn something new every day? I was not expecting that to happen.
02:15 I've never actually switched a car off while it's been running before, especially in EV.
02:20 It's good to see that you still have some control over the car. It is worth keeping in mind
02:24 none of the stability controls were working. So when I went for the brake, it basically just locked up the brakes because stability control,
02:29 ABS, was all in inactive. So if it is wet or something like that, you do need to shut the car down.
02:35 Just make sure you get the brakes up and running.
02:37 If it is wet or something like that, you do need to shut the car down. Just make sure you gradually brake and slow down as you normally would instead of just jamming the brakes on.
02:45 So there you go. Do you want us to do any more of these sorts of videos?
02:49 If there is anything else you've ever wondered about that you want us to shoot, make sure you subscribe to our channel so you can see the result of it.
02:56 But also let us know in the comments section below whether we should be doing other stuff as well.
03:00 If you did enjoy this video,
03:01 please make sure you like it, share it with your mates and also subscribe to the channel if you haven't done it already.
03:05 But until next time, drive safely, don't switch your car off.
