00:00 Plumes of smoke rising above Gaza on Wednesday morning
00:03 as Israel continues to pummel the enclave.
00:06 Residents in Gaza City said artillery strikes and airstrikes
00:10 had actually intensified overnight.
00:12 This, despite Israel and Hamas reaching a temporary truce deal
00:16 in the early hours of Wednesday.
00:18 "There is idle talk out there,
00:22 as if after the truce to return our hostages,
00:25 we will stop the war.
00:27 So I would like to make it clear,
00:28 we are at war and we will continue the war.
00:31 We will continue the war until we achieve all our objectives,
00:35 eliminate Hamas, return all our hostages and missing persons,
00:39 and ensure that there will be no element in Gaza
00:41 that threatens Israel."
00:43 "Hamas, too, remained hawkish.
00:49 It said in a statement that our fingers remain on the trigger.
00:54 Leaders around the world have welcomed the truce.
00:57 It's the first breakthrough since the start
00:59 of the latest round of fighting on October 7.
01:02 Pressure can now mount on Israel to end its war
01:05 without achieving its stated goal of obliterating Hamas.
01:09 As they gathered in Strasbourg on Wednesday morning,
01:12 EU officials welcomed the truce.
01:14 "We hope that the agreement on a pause of hostilities
01:17 that has just been reached will allow for a substantial surge
01:21 in humanitarian aid delivery into and within Gaza.
01:26 And we certainly hope that this will not be a one-off."
01:31 Qatar's chief negotiator said he hoped the deal would lead
01:34 to a wider-reaching agreement and a permanent ceasefire.
01:38 He said there would be no attack whatsoever
01:40 and no military movements or expansion.
01:43 But with both sides still grieving,
01:45 many are waiting for news of a bigger breakthrough.
