00:07 Happy Thanksgiving!
00:10 Welcome to the Carriker Chronicles, the people show.
00:14 Check the pulse of Husker Nation. Brought to you by DPS Concrete Construction.
00:17 And this is my six year old daughter, the baby of the family, Jordan a Carriker.
00:23 How you doing Jordan?
00:24 Good.
00:25 Are you excited for Thanksgiving?
00:26 Ready to eat some turkey?
00:28 Ready to play in the turkey bowl in our backyard?
00:30 Tenth annual turkey bowl.
00:32 I got holes in this shirt.
00:34 They're battle wounds from years of backyard flag football.
00:38 Are you thankful for Husker sports?
00:41 Husker football?
00:43 For your family?
00:45 For your dad?
00:46 Yes.
00:47 I'm thankful for you too. You're pretty awesome.
00:48 Alright, is it alright?
00:49 Well hold on, could you play some sports?
00:51 What are you playing right now?
00:52 Basketball.
00:54 And what are you going to play this summer?
00:56 I'm going to coach your team.
00:57 Baseball.
00:59 And what did you play this fall?
01:01 Soccer.
01:03 Did you have fun?
01:05 Yes.
01:06 Alright, can we talk some Husker football now?
01:08 We talk about Nebraska whooping the Hawkeyes, rear end sideways, hopefully.
01:11 Does that sound good?
01:12 Yeah.
01:13 Alright ladies and gentlemen, if you are with me, and you think that we need to do everything that we can possibly do to keep Tony White,
01:24 here is our defensive coordinator here at the University of Nebraska, then smash that like button.
01:29 Now if you need a little bit of convincing, check this out.
01:31 Last year the Huskers defense allowed 414.4 yards per game.
01:36 That was 100th overall in the country out of 130 FBS teams.
01:39 This year they're averaging over 100 yards less.
01:42 Wow, that's called a gross bird.
01:44 307.7 yards per game, which is 15th in the country.
01:49 That's quite a jump. And their scoring defense went from 77th to 19th.
01:54 And one of the worst rush defenses in the country is now top 5 in the FBS, in fact, the 5th rush defense in all of FBS.
02:02 So if you didn't agree with me before and you agree with me now, hit that like button.
02:05 Alright, real quick, Black Friday is loaded for Husker sport.
02:09 Husker football vs Iowa at 11am.
02:12 Nebraska volleyball vs Wisconsin. It's the rematch.
02:15 Nebraska soccer at Stanford in the Elite 8 at 4pm on Friday.
02:21 Rooting on the Big Red the whole day on Friday.
02:25 Now it was interesting, Thomas Fidoni, he had an interesting tweet.
02:29 And I've noticed a theme with him.
02:31 And as long as he uses it for motivation, man, I get it.
02:34 I've told people, I spent most of my career proving people wrong and a handful of people right, so I know how it can be motivating.
02:40 But here's what he had to say, Thomas Fidoni said, and I quote, on Twitter, and I quote, or x whatever it is,
02:45 and I quote, "The ones who doubt you, doubt you because they could never see themselves doing what you're trying to do,
02:51 will just make it that much sweeter in the end."
02:54 End quote. Dude, I love it, use it for motivation, but here's what I'd also say, man, just do you.
02:59 Didn't he like, do the shush signal to a bunch of fans at Memorial Stadium earlier this year?
03:04 All I'm saying is just do you because true fans will always have your back no matter what.
03:09 Now here's something I thought Husker fans might find interesting.
03:12 We got a bit of a passing game. The forward pass was discovered against Wisconsin just a little bit.
03:16 Chubaperti was 15 to 20, 369 yards, passing 62.5% completion percentage, a 132.6 rating.
03:24 Now this is the highest completion percentage by a quarterback this year for Nebraska.
03:28 The third highest QBR this season, the most completions thrown in a game this season,
03:31 the second most passing yards in a game this year, and the second highest yards per attempt this season.
03:38 Now, I thought that that was interesting. I thought that gives Husker fans a little bit of encouragement
03:45 going in and facing this tough Iowa defense on Friday.
03:49 But Shane Day, okay, I check comments. I check Facebook. I check X, still trying to get used to calling it that.
03:56 I check it all. Shane Day on Facebook had an interesting comment, okay.
04:00 Here's how he would fix what ails Husker football, and I quote, "Too many roundabouts in Lincoln."
04:07 "That's what's causing the problem. They're interfering with their ability to remember plays."
04:12 I just thought that that was awesome.
04:15 Alright, now, not everything is awesome. I try to keep things in perspective, being as unbiased as I can possibly be.
04:22 Now here's the thing. We have been hearing that this isn't really a typical year one under Matt Rule.
04:27 So there's going to be a tweet that goes up. This is @ScurrsNews.
04:31 And here's what it says, and I quote, "We have been hearing this isn't the typical Rule year one.
04:35 However, after digging into the numbers, it is probably due to the level of competition played more than anything else.
04:40 Year one at Temple, their opponents averaged 6.8 wins per opponent that they played.
04:44 Year one at Baylor, 7.5 wins per opponent. This year at Nebraska, 4.8 wins.
04:50 So it hasn't been the most brutal schedule under God's hot sun.
04:53 In fact, Nebraska has technically only played one ranked team all year, and that's Michigan.
04:59 Now, Colorado was ranked at the time we played them.
05:02 Iowa, who we haven't played yet, at the time that I'm recording this video, will be ranked, okay?
05:06 But technically only one ranked team at the time that I'm recording this video, the Huskers have played so far this year.
05:14 You having fun? You're doing great. Give me five. Nucks. Alright, here we go.
05:22 Now, Iowa opened as a one and a half point favorite, which kind of surprised me it wasn't more.
05:28 I mean, they've got 9 wins, we've got 6, they're going to the Big Ten Championship game, we don't even know if we're going bowling.
05:32 As of now, Nebraska is a two point favorite. Make the world make sense.
05:37 The over-under, okay, was tied for a record at 27 when the line opened. Now it's set a record at 26 and a half.
05:43 Could it get lower? Yeah, it could, really.
05:45 You have the number 17 team in the country in Iowa, 9 and 2, the Big Ten West Champs,
05:49 who are an underdog to a 5 and 6 Nebraska team, who doesn't even know if they're going to go to a bowl game, okay?
05:56 And hasn't been to one in quite a while.
05:58 The over-under is 26 and a half, and I'll be honest with you, that even seems kind of high to me, okay?
06:03 And I do remember that Iowa beat Illinois 15 to 13.
06:07 And I think it was 15 to 6 over Wisconsin.
06:09 Like, some of these kind of weird scores. Like, this score could easily be 9 to 6, 6 to 3, 3 to 2.
06:14 It's two good defenses versus two bad offenses.
06:18 It's going to be ugly, it's going to be close, and it's going to be beautiful.
06:23 Well, as long as Nebraska wins, anyways.
06:26 As long as the Big Red wins, it's beautiful, right?
06:28 Yes. That's what I'm talking about.
06:30 Now, it could be like a baseball game, or a soccer game, or a hockey score.
06:35 The score is what I mean. Like, legit, it could be 3 to 2 or something like that.
06:38 And my wife even said to me, she goes, "Adam, it could all come down to one big play."
06:43 One big play could decide this game. Who gets the lucky break, or who makes the big play?
06:47 Okay, now real quick, be sure to check out DPS Concrete Construction.
06:53 Check them out at dpsconstruction.net.
06:56 Can I put that on?
06:58 If you're a diesel mechanic, CDL driver, concrete finisher, and looking for work in the Omaha metro area,
07:03 DPS Construction is the employer for you.
07:05 Seriously, they are a great employer.
07:07 This is too tight for my head.
07:08 Can you put that on?
07:09 Yes.
07:10 How's my hair?
07:11 I actually combed it before I came down here.
07:13 Alright, so I've got a plethora of stats that we're going to throw up on the screen,
07:17 because if I just sit here and read them, you might go to sleep.
07:19 Also, you get to see what my - these are a screenshot of my exact notes that I'm reading right now.
07:23 So now you can see my wonderful handwriting. I once got a C in 5th grade, all As in a C.
07:27 Mrs. Sowell was actually concerned that my dad was going to be mad at me, which he was, rightfully so.
07:31 It's come a long ways, but these are my actual notes.
07:33 So if you want to follow along, they're up on the screen.
07:35 Iowa's offense is averaging 18.5 points per game, 121st in the country.
07:39 Nebraska's offense, 18.7 points per game, 118th in the country.
07:43 Iowa is averaging 245 yards per game, dead last in the country.
07:48 Nebraska's offense, 317 yards per game, tied for 113th in the country.
07:52 Iowa's defense is 7th in the country in total defense.
07:54 The Blackshirts are 15th in the country in total defense.
07:57 The Hawkeyes are 3rd in the country in scoring defense.
08:00 Pretty freaking good.
08:01 The Blackshirts are 19th in the country in scoring defense, allowing 18.73 points per game.
08:07 Okay, Iowa's 105th in the country in rush offense, which boggles my mind.
08:13 They don't throw the ball.
08:15 They run the ball.
08:16 I've never seen an Iowa offense that low when it comes to rushing stats.
08:20 The Huskers are 26th in the country in rushing offense, 186 yards per game.
08:24 They're averaging.
08:25 The Hawkeyes are 18th in the country in rush defense.
08:28 The Blackshirts are 5th in the country in rush defense, giving up 86 yards per game.
08:32 They're outgaining their opponents on the ground by 100 yards.
08:35 How do we not have more wins?
08:37 And neither team throws the ball very well, although Chubba Purdy - I didn't even write down the numbers for that -
08:41 Chubba Purdy gives us at least the hope of being able to throw the ball downfield just a little bit.
08:47 Now here's a couple of quick game notes before I dive into my four keys this week for the game and my game prediction.
08:54 Now, the Huskers, this is their 34th consecutive season playing on Black Friday with three consistent opponents over the year.
09:02 We started out with Oklahoma for years, as we know that used to be on Thanksgiving.
09:06 Then it moved to Black Friday, then it was Colorado for years, and now it's Iowa.
09:10 Another interesting stat, at least I thought it was, Rover Isaac Gifford has a team high 75 tackles this year.
09:17 Gifford is the first Nebraska DB to record at least 75 tackles in a season since safety Nathan Gary had 79 in 13 games in 2015.
09:27 Are you ready for the keys to victory?
09:30 The keys to Nebraska beating Iowa?
09:32 Do you think Nebraska is going to win or Iowa? Who do you think is going to win?
09:35 I don't know.
09:37 Make a pick. Who do you think?
09:40 Nebraska.
09:43 Nebraska! There you have it, ladies and gentlemen.
09:45 Alright, the first key to the game. Let me shock you. Turnovers. Do I really need to delve into it more?
09:49 Number two. Be the better second half team.
09:52 I tweeted it out, I put it on Facebook, I X'd it out, whatever you call it.
09:56 I said we need to be the better second half team versus Wisconsin.
10:00 Didn't work out so much. We've got to be the better second half team versus Iowa. We've got to be more physical.
10:04 Again, they're not a great running football team this year, rushing the ball.
10:08 And we also have to make solid in-game and halftime adjustments.
10:13 Pause for effect.
10:15 Alright, the third key. Special teams.
10:17 As I said, two good defenses, two bad offenses, and my wife may be right.
10:22 This may come down to one big lucky break or one big play that a team makes, and it very well could be on special teams.
10:31 Alright, and number four. And this is a two-for-one in my opinion.
10:34 Because I kind of wonder, who's going to want this game more? Nebraska or Iowa?
10:40 I kind of wonder how motivated Iowa is. And some people have laughed at me.
10:43 But they're 9-2. If they win, they're going to the Big Ten Championship game.
10:46 If they lose, they're going to the Big Ten Championship game.
10:48 Does it really matter to them if they win or lose?
10:51 I don't know. Maybe it's a rivalry. Maybe it's Nebraska. So maybe they get up.
10:55 But I've also had some people throw out the potential. Maybe they're arresting some starters.
10:59 Now, I don't think they will. But the fact that it's even been thrown out there, how motivated are they for this game?
11:05 Whereas Nebraska, this should be their freaking Super Bowl. It really is.
11:10 They're fighting for their first bowl game in over half a decade.
11:14 And this leads me to the second part of this two-part key.
11:18 Husker fans, I expect Memorial Stadium to be rocking.
11:22 You guys can make an impact. You guys can be a difference.
11:24 This should be a legit home field advantage.
11:28 Alright, and no matter what, always remember, Iowa still has bad corn.
11:35 I'm just going to pause so you can enjoy that picture that my wife's putting on the screen right now.
11:39 Thank you to my wife for editing this show. She does a great job.
11:41 Alright, now, check out the next picture.
11:45 And if you're on the fence, you need to be more like this fan.
11:48 And Nebraska needs to make Iowa fear Nebraska corn.
11:52 Alright, here are my predictions.
11:55 Real quick, my prediction. And I have the under.
11:59 Somehow, I have Nebraska 10, Iowa 9.
12:03 And I'll be honest with you, if this was at Iowa, I would not predict this to win.
12:06 If it was on a neutral field, I would not predict this to win.
12:09 But it's in Memorial Stadium, and I think that's the difference.
12:12 I'll be honest with you, Jacob got in trouble this week, so he was banned from making a prediction.
12:15 As so happens with kids sometimes.
12:17 So Addison, who beat me earlier this year, predicted Nebraska to beat Iowa 12-6.
12:23 Now here are my questions for you fine folks at home.
12:25 Hit me up in the comments below.
12:27 Alright, number one. And these are just yes or no questions, the first two.
12:30 Has this Nebraska football season been entertaining?
12:33 I think it has.
12:34 Number two, will Nebraska beat Iowa?
12:36 Again, just simply yes or no.
12:37 Number three, what's your favorite Thanksgiving Day tradition?
12:40 Mine? Turkey Bowl in the backyard, 10th annual one.
12:43 Having Thanksgiving dinner, going around the dinner, telling everyone what we're thankful for.
12:47 And number three, watching the Dallas Cowboys lose.
12:49 Until next time, Go Big Red!
12:51 Thank you for joining me, and always remember...
12:53 For the Bones!
12:55 [BLANK_AUDIO]
