00:00 To control unhealthy food advertisements that affect the health of children,
00:06 a study was conducted to create a platform to fight the so-called "patalastas".
00:14 This is the report of Noel Talakay, Exclusive.
00:17 The cases of obesity and non-communicable diseases are increasing in the youth of the country,
00:27 according to a nutritionist.
00:29 This is due to the high availability of unhealthy foods in the community,
00:35 even in social media.
00:37 We can see the trend that the rate and incidence of obesity in children is increasing.
00:47 Our cases are also increasing for other non-communicable diseases,
00:53 like your kidney problems, diabetes, etc.
00:57 We can see that our cases are increasing,
01:02 like heart attack, diabetes.
01:04 According to the study of DOST-FNRI,
01:08 one in seven Filipino children are obese.
01:15 UNICEF says that if this is not implemented,
01:19 30% of Filipino children will be obese by 2030.
01:28 According to a nutritionist,
01:31 it is time to move and take care of the health of Filipino children.
01:37 We really need to address this issue,
01:40 to limit the exposure of our children to advertisements
01:46 that encourage them to eat unhealthy foods.
01:51 That is why this Children's Month celebration,
01:54 some national leaders have gathered together,
01:58 including your services for PTV,
02:01 to have a meaningful discussion against unhealthy food ads.
02:08 This was led by Imagine Law,
02:11 an advocate group of 13 journalists from TV, print and online.
02:18 Only seven were chosen.
02:21 We selected them because they demonstrated their capacity and ability
02:27 to pursue a story relentlessly.
02:29 That's what we need, especially in issues like the impact of unhealthy food and beverage marketing
02:36 that sometimes really brings us down.
02:41 The advocates are also here for the rights of youth and some LGUs,
02:48 some government agencies such as the Department of Health and Department of Education or DepEd.
02:55 DepEd is here to learn that there are programs and policies developed
03:01 to provide good nutrition to children studying abroad.
03:06 The Department of Education has also made a move
03:09 against unhealthy food ads that are seen inside and outside schools.
03:15 We are pushing for the expansion of the school-based feeding program
03:19 so that we start feeding our kids not just for 120 days but for the entire school year.
03:25 And also we hope to limit the presence of unhealthy food advertising.
03:30 We are pushing to increase it so that we can actually provide our kids with better hot meals,
03:36 not just nutribuns but hot meals and in collaboration with LGUs,
03:40 develop more central kitchens and ensure that all Filipino youth are healthier and stronger.
03:46 Their call now is for a law to regulate unhealthy food ads
03:54 that are shown on various platforms.
03:57 form. Noel Talakay para sa bayan.
