00:00 At least nine people have been killed in Bamenyam, a small village in the west region of Cameroon.
00:06 The attack, which happened on Tuesday morning, left at least nine people dead and ten others
00:12 abducted by suspected separatist fighters.
00:15 Eyewitnesses say about 30 gunmen arrived on motorcycles dressed in military attire.
00:21 The eyewitnesses also recount that the gunmen were speaking in broken English, commonly
00:26 called the pidgin language, which is popularly spoken in the English-speaking regions of
00:31 Cameroon.
00:32 While they ransacked the market, they burned five shops, two vehicles and made away with
00:37 10 motorcycles.
00:39 Though no one has claimed responsibility for the attack, the country's Minister of Communication,
00:44 Rene Emmanuel Sadi, says the attack was carried out by separatist fighters.
00:48 This is not the first time separatist fighters have left the English-speaking regions into
00:53 a French area, attacking and killing people.
00:56 This attack comes barely two weeks after 24 people, according to official sources, were
01:01 brutally assassinated by separatist fighters in Egbeko in Manfe in the southwest region
01:07 of Cameroon.
01:09 Attacks on the civilian population happen every now and then in the English-speaking
01:14 regions of the country since the start of the Anglophone crisis in 2016.
