00:00 Do you ever run into them, Rob and Kristen?
00:02 Are they in your life in any way?
00:03 - I do, I do.
00:04 Like actually, strangely enough,
00:06 I went to Rob's birthday party recently.
00:10 - Katherine Hardwick, the director
00:12 of the first "Twilight" film,
00:14 is opening up about crashing Robert Pattinson's
00:17 37th birthday back in May.
00:19 And she wasn't the only one.
00:21 - Kristen crashed it too.
00:23 - Oh.
00:24 (both laughing)
00:25 - As Katherine reveals during the November 20th episode
00:28 of the "Happy, Sad, Confused" podcast,
00:31 Edward Cullen's celebration was also attended,
00:34 or crashed, by none other than Bella Swan herself,
00:38 Robert's in real life ex-girlfriend, Kristen Stewart.
00:42 - We all hugged each other.
00:44 It's like, this is so crazy and cool.
00:46 - Elsewhere in the convo, Katherine dishes
00:48 on the massive opening of the 2008 film
00:51 and how Robert and Kristen's lives,
00:54 much like those of Edward and Bella, changed forever.
00:57 Specifically, the director recalls an event
01:00 they went to during the Rome Film Festival.
01:02 - They were just gonna show a little teaser
01:04 and we were gonna, like a trailer for the movie,
01:08 and we were gonna go to a bookstore and do a signing.
01:10 And so we didn't have any security,
01:12 nobody thought about anything.
01:14 We go to the bookstore and there's like a line
01:17 like around three blocks.
01:19 We're like, whoa, we didn't even have time
01:21 to finish signing everything, so we had to leave.
01:24 That made some people mad.
01:25 - Katherine, Kristen, and Rob had to push
01:28 through a massive crowd to escape.
01:31 - We got mobbed, literally like a thousand people
01:35 trying to crush us, and I'm about the same,
01:38 almost, like a little bigger than Kristen,
01:41 but I'm like trying to bodyguard Kristen.
01:43 I like try to jump in front of her to save her.
01:46 Rob was trying to get the door up.
01:48 We finally get into the van, pull each other in,
01:51 and then try to drive, we couldn't even drive,
01:53 and suddenly went, okay, this is not just a little movie.
01:57 These people are going nuts.
01:58 And now after that we had to have security guards
02:01 and everything.
02:02 That's when we knew, okay, this is big.
02:04 - In fact, Stephanie Meyer's book-to-movie adaptation
02:08 would go on to become massive with its five films,
02:12 earning over $3 billion at the box office in total.
