Rotherham 1-1 Leeds - YEP reaction
Transcript
00:00 Hello everybody, good evening if you're tuning in to this video on the Friday night.
00:09 It's a late one here at the New York Stadium in Rotherham where Leeds have drawn 1-1 with
00:14 the hosts taking the lead through Sensio Somerville but were pegged back on the stroke of half-time
00:21 by Hakim Odofian for the Millers.
00:24 A frustrating evening on the whole.
00:26 Daniel Tharker admitted in his post-match press conference that he'd allow his team
00:32 to be disappointed with this one.
00:35 There were a few decisions which didn't go Leeds' way but at the end of the day they
00:38 were wasteful with chances in the first half.
00:42 They relinquished their control with a quite sloppy goal to concede right on half-time
00:48 and ultimately come away with a point rather than all three which on the balance of chances
00:54 created they probably deserved but they squandered them.
00:58 They were wasteful and ultimately it feels as though it's a missed opportunity.
01:03 Credit to Rotherham, they dug in, they were organised especially in the second half and
01:09 they fought really hard to keep Leeds at bay, especially the attacking talent that was on
01:15 show.
01:16 We'll start with the line-ups.
01:20 Jorginho Ruta was in there, he was in the starting 11 as the lights had just gone off
01:26 at the New York Stadium which is very handy.
01:31 Jorginho Ruta was named in the starting line-up despite being listed as a major doubt on Wednesday
01:37 by Daniel Tharker.
01:41 He came through the game pretty much unscathed, played around 70 or so minutes.
01:47 He'll be fine for Wednesday, you'd imagine, that's what Daniel Tharker has just said.
01:52 It's just a case of him having missed a few training sessions in midweek after having
01:57 an abdominal strain which meant that he wasn't completing the 90 minutes.
02:02 Apart from that it was just one change.
02:04 Junior Firpo in for Sam Byron.
02:07 Byron was on the bench, did pick up a hamstring injury against Plymouth before the international
02:11 break but managed to come through that and he's fine to be in the squad.
02:18 On the whole there were lots and lots of opportunities for Leeds to really kill this game in the
02:23 first half.
02:24 They should have been out of sight.
02:25 I'm thinking Joel Pirro lashing at one over the crossbar from a dropping ball.
02:32 Dan James squandered one from a counter-attacking opportunity.
02:36 Glenn Kamara from a similar opportunity down the right-hand side.
02:41 Then there were, in the second half, a couple of chances.
02:45 Willy Nyonto had a shot which just went over the crossbar from the edge of the penalty
02:50 area and there was even a Jadon Anthony goal which was ruled out really, really late on
02:58 for an offside decision on Patrick Bamford who looks to have been an inch or two offside.
03:06 If the linesman has spotted it, it's an excellent decision.
03:09 Not from a Leeds perspective but from a pragmatic, doing his job properly perspective, he definitely
03:16 got that one right if that is the case.
03:22 There was also a shout for a penalty late on as well in the melee in one of the Leeds
03:26 attacks when they were pressing.
03:28 Dan James was fouled but due to the nature of the fluid attack, Daniel Farker said, it
03:35 gets missed by the officials.
03:37 Again, with VAR, if this was the Premier League, then that probably gets given as a penalty
03:43 late on.
03:44 But unfortunately, it was missed.
03:47 It doesn't excuse how wasteful Leeds were with their attacks, particularly in that first
03:56 half.
03:57 It's hard to argue that they need to learn that lesson.
04:02 They need to be brutal, they need to be ruthless with their finishes.
04:07 And that's something to take into next Wednesday's game against Swansea City at Ellen Road.
04:13 We'll be back with the videos then after that game.
04:16 But in the meantime, take care.
04:18 And yeah, there'll be player ratings or there is player ratings on the YIP website.
04:24 Currently, there's an episode of the Inside Ellen Road podcast, which is available to
04:29 listen to as well with myself, Joe Donoghue and YIP chief football writer, Graham Smith.
04:34 But if you've been watching this video, thank you for tuning in and we'll speak to you very
04:38 soon.
