World record paddle out to pay tribute to Zac Young
Transcript
00:00 We're here on Town Beach at Port Macquarie.
00:02 We're here for Zach Young, who died in a shark attack about 10 years ago, so we're here to
00:07 remember him and to celebrate him and to celebrate life.
00:11 And we're trying to break a world record for the largest paddle out.
00:14 We're trying to get around 700 people, but we need more than 512.
00:18 So we're super keen to have everyone down here and paddle out, and we're going to hope
00:21 that it's a really good day.
00:23 We've got some great weather.
00:24 It's slightly drizzly, but it's perfect.
00:25 Everyone's going to get wet anyway.
00:27 So we're really keen and really excited.
00:29 The thing that we all join on, we want to love people, we want to support people, and
00:34 there's all people from all walks of life here.
00:37 Let's celebrate our differences as well as our unity here today.
00:42 Woo hoo hoo hoo!
00:44 Ha ha ha ha ha ha!
00:46 Ha ha ha ha ha!
00:48 We're going to be real good.
00:50 Yeah, we're going to be great.
00:52 Let's beat this record!
00:54 We're going to have lots of fun.
00:56 Bump, bump, bump, bump, bump, bump, bump, bump, bump, bump.
01:00 OK, we just hit 517, and that was actually two minutes ago.
01:05 We're probably at 530, 540 right now.
01:08 We're knocking this sucker right out of the water.
01:10 So we're going to take out the record.
01:12 Now we've got to get him in the water.
01:14 So we're off to the water.
01:15 If you're watching this, run down to the beach!
01:18 Ha ha ha ha!
01:19 I was just walking along after the Port Park run this morning, meeting up for coffee with
01:24 friends, and I heard there was a world record on.
01:27 I thought, how amazing!
01:28 Board was in the car with a couple of spare boogie boards for my friends, and thought
01:31 I'd jump in and we're beating the world record!
01:33 How good is that?
01:35 Phew!
01:36 Hey, we just beat the world record.
01:38 It's cool to be a part of it.
01:40 I'm actually from New Zealand, so it's really cool to come out and just enjoy this time
01:45 and remembering that.
01:47 Yeah.
01:48 It's going to be so many people.
01:55 Let's go!
02:13 We are very excited to be part of a world record attempt in memory of Zac Young.
02:19 We need to get it done really quick because it's pretty cold.
02:27 So everybody's in the water.
02:28 We've hit way above the number.
02:30 Now we've got to pull it off.
02:32 We've got to hold hands for 60 seconds, and this is being live-streamed in national television
02:36 as we do this, as we speak.
02:38 So I'm excited.
02:39 I'm getting in the water.
