00:00 It's never too late to make your dreams come true.
00:02 No matter how high it is,
00:04 this is what the former GMA News reporter, Steve Dailisan,
00:09 proved when he went to the aviation from television.
00:13 I am Steve Dailisan and this is...
00:16 I am Steve Dailisan.
00:21 Steve Dailisan, GMA News.
00:23 He was first known as a reporter of GMA News
00:29 after the news was published.
00:31 Steve was also a reporter.
00:36 The former GMA News reporter
00:38 is now a reporter.
00:41 Steve, welcome to Amazing Earth from the airwaves to the airways.
00:46 But before that,
00:48 how and where did you start using Steve Dailisan?
00:52 I get amazed whenever I hear that.
00:55 I asked my mom and sister,
00:57 "Mom, I'm the only one who uses his name. It's so short."
01:00 They told me,
01:02 "Son, it's long E."
01:04 I said, "Oh, it's long E."
01:06 Do you remember the first moment you used and did it?
01:10 I will never forget that.
01:12 My mom told me,
01:13 Jessica Soho,
01:15 "Steve, why is the E so long?"
01:17 We laughed.
01:19 The following day, she told me, "Okay, just reduce it."
01:22 Ah, okay.
01:23 How many years did you become a journalist and a reporter at GMA
01:28 before you shifted your career?
01:31 I also spent 12 years in the world of journalism.
01:35 So what made you decide, Steve?
01:36 I really wanted to pursue my dream of becoming a pilot.
01:39 It's not easy
01:40 because we just came from poverty.
01:42 And when you become a pilot,
01:43 you really need to have a little savings.
01:46 It took me 17 months in a row
01:51 from private pilot to commercial pilot.
01:54 What was it like to first lift that wheel on the runway?
01:58 It's a mixed feeling
02:00 because there's anxiety, there's excitement,
02:02 and of course, it's fun
02:04 because your appreciation for life is different
02:06 when you see it from above.
02:08 In 2019, Steve's dream of becoming a pilot came true.
02:18 Who was the first person you called
02:19 after you successfully landed on your first flight?
02:23 They were all a bit nervous,
02:25 but my dad was the first person I called
02:28 after my first flight.
02:29 But,
02:34 just before his job,
02:36 the COVID-19 pandemic hit.
02:38 I wanted to be a source of inspiration and hope.
02:44 And...
02:45 But it's really sad.
02:48 [sad music]
02:50 I wanted my dad to fly
02:52 because it was his dream.
02:54 What happened? Why didn't you let him fly?
02:56 In 2020,
02:58 that was the time I was released from the first officer position
03:02 in an airline.
03:03 And then, all of a sudden,
03:04 sometime in August,
03:05 my dad also passed away.
03:08 Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.
03:10 COVID-19 didn't give us a chance to mourn and grieve.
03:13 So, I think
03:15 that's one of the sad parts
03:18 because you can't fly it.
03:20 But,
03:21 it's not just about flying.
03:23 You really need to have a callback.
03:27 You need to have a skill to return.
03:28 Now, while doing communications and public affairs,
03:32 we were able to fly an airplane
03:35 every Thursday and Friday.
03:36 I do the same public service
03:38 because it's an instrument to have a reunion.
03:40 Public service is a commitment.
03:43 And it's part of our character.
03:45 It's something that we can't separate as a public service.
03:47 We can make them feel safe.
03:50 I'm sure that when you're landing,
03:52 when you're introducing yourself,
03:53 you're saying the famous Steve Line.
03:56 It's still the same, for consistency.
03:59 Our fellow pilots are really happy.
04:01 They're really happy.
04:03 I'm sure that the viewers learned a lot from us.
04:05 Especially me.
04:06 Good luck.
04:07 Good luck with your flight.
04:10 But, of course, before it ends,
04:11 maybe we can request for a part one more time.
04:15 Fellow pilots, we always take care of nature.
04:19 I am Steve Dainusan,
04:21 and this is Amazing Earth.
