Post-game interview with Kyle Efford and D'Quan Douse
Transcript
00:00 Representing the defense on everybody's left we have linebacker Kyle Eifert.
00:03 Everybody's right, we have defensive lineman Dequan Dowse.
00:06 We'll be adding over to the right for questions for Kyle and Dequan.
00:10 Questions, Kelly?
00:11 >> For both of you guys, it's been pretty prolific this season.
00:16 Offense, you guys played well.
00:18 Defensively, played the whole game, including the next last drive we got
00:21 picked, stopped that in the middle of the school.
00:24 Just kind of what were you seeing from the Georgia offense?
00:26 >> I mean, we knew coming in we had to stop the run.
00:31 So we were scheming them up, game planning it up.
00:33 I mean, it definitely gashed a few times.
00:36 We knew they were an explosive offense.
00:37 So I mean, our plan was to stop their explosive plays.
00:41 And I think we did that for the most part, or as best we could.
00:44 That's all I gotta say about that.
00:47 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:53 >> When you look at Milton as a defense, I guess,
00:56 you knew you couldn't do any arm tackling with him.
00:59 And you had to do a lot of gang tackling.
01:01 Is that what you've been trying to do going into the game?
01:04 >> I mean, we always talk about having gang tackling regardless.
01:08 I mean, obviously, you can't really arm tackle anyone in Power 5 football.
01:13 So I mean, 11 hats to the ball, I guess that's all we gotta do, just swarm.
01:17 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:21 >> Yeah, like I was saying, it's not really about a specific player.
01:27 We try to get more hats to the ball, more effort, more consistency.
01:32 We call it population to the ball.
01:35 It's like the more people around, the more good things happen.
01:37 So we work with that every day.
01:39 So not so much week by week, but we are steadily improving,
01:43 trying to get better at that.
01:43 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:48 >> Guys, 66 going to the first bowl game since 2018,
01:51 what do you make of the growth of the defense specifically,
01:55 just the season since you've been a part of this, you go back to August?
01:58 >> I mean, there's definitely been growth.
01:59 I mean, regardless, the season goes on, now we're down to improve.
02:06 So going on, started off, it started off kinda slow.
02:10 But getting into it now, we feel like we're starting to build a culture that we
02:14 want on the defensive side of the ball.
02:15 [BLANK_AUDIO]
02:19 >> Dequan, you've been here through a lot.
02:21 You'll get your first bowl game coming up, and
02:24 you went through a senior year and all that today too.
02:26 Just kinda what was it like emotionally for you going through the day-to-day, and
02:30 maybe what your plans are for the future, and just-
02:34 >> All right. >> Play your last game maybe.
02:35 >> Yeah, no, it was slightly emotional.
02:39 It's a lot going on, but I try to keep my head focused on the game.
02:43 Being out there with my parents, it was a good time.
02:45 Just taking it all in, and then start maybe thinking about when I did come in 2019,
02:52 and where we were at, how far we've come.
02:54 So I mean, I'm really proud of how far we've come over these past few years.
03:01 There's still steps to strive to take, so that's what we plan on doing.
03:05 [BLANK_AUDIO]
03:07 >> Anything else for this test?
03:08 >> No. >> Okay.
03:11 >> Could you actually describe a little bit how far you feel like it's come, and
03:15 where you've gotten better, and what things you still need to improve on?
03:20 >> Yeah, I'd say for the most part, it's just about execution, guys.
03:24 Cuz you're doing your job when that job needs to be done.
03:28 And then playmaking, when that play is there to be made,
03:33 who's the guy that's gonna be able to get off that block and go make that tackle?
03:37 So I think it's execution and being able to have playmakers around.
03:41 [BLANK_AUDIO]
03:43 >> Anything else?
03:45 >> Bring it back.
03:45 [BLANK_AUDIO]
03:49 >> Have you got, I mean, I know the game just ended, but
03:52 is it exciting that you guys have a goal practice, that this is not the end of
03:55 the year, that there's one more game coming up, and we're gonna play for a while?
04:00 That just, is there some excitement that there's something beyond this?
04:04 >> Yeah, I mean, it's definitely a different feeling knowing that it's gonna
04:07 be another game.
04:07 I mean, it's not the end of our season.
04:10 But we haven't really thought about the goal too much, we've just been focused on
04:12 Georgia.
04:13 And so I mean, now we'll go ahead and move on, put our heads down, get on work for
04:17 this ballgame.
04:17 [BLANK_AUDIO]
04:20 >> Anything else?
04:21 >> I think that's it.
