00:00 Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're taking a look at 20 totally bizarre crossovers to
00:15 ever occur in video games.
00:25 Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to Mojo
00:29 Plays and ring the bell to be notified for our latest videos.
00:34 Kingdom Hearts Series
00:41 To Square Enix's credit, Kingdom Hearts has been around long enough that it isn't
00:45 as odd as it initially was.
00:48 Even so, there are still plenty of outsiders who would be confused as to why Mickey, Donald,
00:53 and Goofy are hanging out with a bunch of anime-looking characters.
01:03 The way Sora and his friends are designed just don't match up when standing next to
01:07 cartoon animals.
01:09 The aesthetic clashes even more harshly in Kingdom Hearts III, where we started getting
01:13 into Pixar worlds like Toy Story and Monsters, Inc.
01:16 So imagine how strange it'll be when Kingdom Hearts IV inevitably introduces Marvel or
01:21 Star Wars.
01:28 NBA Street V3
01:38 Apologies for bringing up something so creepy and uncanny this early, but we'd rather
01:42 just push through this one now and get it over with.
01:45 NBA Street V3 had the greatest honor of featuring Mario, Luigi, and Peach as playable characters
01:52 in the GameCube version.
01:59 The problem is that they each had the same animations as the NBA players that made up
02:04 the roster.
02:05 Basically, none of our Mushroom Kingdom heroes got touched in the slightest during the animation
02:10 process.
02:11 In the end, we got the trio moving in ways that simply do not match the way they look.
02:26 Metal Gear Series
02:35 Metal Gear may have never had a dedicated crossover game with another franchise, but
02:39 it did cross over with two very peculiar choices.
02:43 Snake Eater featured a Pipo monkey from the Ape Escape series, and even featured a minigame
02:48 where Snake had to capture them.
02:56 Then you had Peace Walker, which saw Snake hop onto a Trenya from Monster Hunter and
03:01 head to an island to fight a Rathalos and a Tigrex.
03:13 And lest we forget about that figurine of Mario and Yoshi that can be found in Twin
03:17 Snakes or the Yoshi figurine in Snake Eater 3D.
03:22 Power Rangers Legacy Wars
03:33 Legacy Wars was a pretty solid title in how it brought all Rangers from every generation
03:37 together in one big mobile mashup.
03:40 So how is this in any way weird?
03:43 Well more than a year after the game's launch, guest characters from Street Fighter were
03:47 thrown in with Ryu having a role in the last part of the story.
03:59 A couple months later, Ryu and Chun-Li were given Ranger outfits while Cammy, my dear
04:05 sweet Cammy, was left on the bench with Akuma and M. Bison.
04:10 We aren't quite sure how this collab started in the first place, but Street Fighter's
04:14 place in the story of Power Rangers was quickly accepted by both Hasbro fans and Street Fighter
04:19 fans.
04:29 Mario Hoops 3 on 3
04:38 On the surface, Mario Hoops is simply another sport Mario felt the need to break with all
04:44 the jumping, fireballs, and light amount of gambling on slot machines.
04:48 It's expected.
04:49 But then you get to that final tournament, and suddenly you're going up against Final
04:53 Fantasy characters?
05:04 We get that Mario Hoops was developed by Square Enix, and the inclusion was probably part
05:08 of some deal, or both Square and Nintendo thought it'd be neat to have.
05:14 Regardless, we're not sure how to feel about a Moogle, White Mage, and Ninja playing basketball
05:19 with Yoshi, Waluigi, and a Boo.
05:28 Smite
05:38 For years, you could boot up Smite and sort of know what to expect.
05:43 Everyone chooses their preferred god or goddess, equip their favorite skins, and get to fighting.
05:48 However, the game has seen some rather absurd crossovers lately.
06:01 Gods and goddesses now have skins that turn them into a variety of characters from other
06:05 IPs, such as TMNT, Transformers, Stranger Things, and a wealth of Nickelodeon characters.
06:12 Ever thought you'd see Invader Zim take down the almighty Zeus, or Optimus Prime fighting
06:17 the powerful Thor?
06:18 It's a sight.
06:21 It is definitely a sight.
06:29 Alex Kidd in Shinobi World
06:38 This was one of those games where the aesthetics and attitudes didn't exactly match up for
06:42 this crossover to make sense.
06:44 The Alex Kidd games have a cutesy kind of visual appeal to them.
06:48 They're simple platformers meant for kids, after all.
06:57 So yeah, let's just throw this child into the intense and gritty world of Shinobi, where
07:01 mystical ninjas are slashing each other up and mercenaries are firing off guns and bazookas
07:06 in all directions.
07:07 Not sure if a game of Rochambeau is gonna get Alex Kidd out of this one.
07:17 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Smash Up
07:20 TMNT's Smash Up was, on the surface, a great crossover between all of the heroes and villains
07:32 of the franchise.
07:33 Well, almost all of them.
07:36 You had the Turtles, and Splinter of course, alongside Shredder, Fugitoid, April, Casey
07:41 Jones, and even the Night Watcher.
07:43 But things got a bit off when you unlocked the Rabbids.
07:50 Yes, the Rabbids are in this game, and there are three of them that you can unlock.
07:58 Ninja Rabbid, Turtle Rabbid, and Splinter Rabbid.
08:02 The manic buns were popping up in some unexpected places, and honestly, this was where they
08:07 were starting to annoy some folks.
08:09 We love them now, because of Mario + Rabbids, but back then, people weren't too thrilled.
08:21 Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed
08:32 It was confusing to see Sega drop their own name from the sequel to Sonic and Sega All-Stars
08:37 Racing.
08:38 Then we saw all of those guest characters.
08:41 Danica Patrick, the Mii and Xbox avatar?
08:45 Wreck-It Ralph?
08:46 The heavy pyro and spy from Team Fortress 2?
08:52 Yeah, at some point, the game became a little less Sega and a little more everyone.
09:02 Thankfully, this was the better game of the two with its tighter controls, refined visuals,
09:07 and unique level design.
09:09 We only wish it got more support than just throwing in Metal Sonic and calling it quits
09:13 there.
09:20 Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe
09:30 Back when MK vs. DC was first announced, we all asked the same thing.
09:35 How on earth are you going to blend the ultra-violence of Mortal Kombat with the widely beloved by
09:41 children DC Comics heroes and villains?
09:45 The result was a T for Teen rating, and it did not sit well with audiences on either
09:50 side.
09:53 MK vs. DC was odd in premise, and even more so in the inclusion of finishing moves.
10:02 Nothing felt satisfying in execution, and the story mode left much to be desired.
10:07 At least it helped point NetherRealm Studios in the direction of the MK reboots and the
10:11 Injustice games, so something good did come out of this.
10:21 Super Smash Bros.
10:22 Ultimate
10:23 Hey, we're not about to dunk on Smash Bros., but we gotta be honest and say that Ultimate,
10:33 specifically, is one of the weirdest games to ever exist.
10:38 Not only do you have games from Nintendo's storied history of video games represented
10:42 here, but a ton of guest characters made their way here as well.
10:52 Even if it has been your 20th or 100th time playing as Banjo and Kazooie and beating up
10:57 Cloud Strife in the world of Minecraft, you can't help but be amazed at what was accomplished
11:03 here.
11:04 Super Smash Bros.
11:05 Ultimate truly is a celebration of video games.
11:07 It's impossible to see it through any other lens.
11:17 Lego Dimensions
11:24 When looking at it in a legal sense, Lego Dimensions isn't as weird compared to the
11:28 other entries here.
11:29 Many of the IPs represented here are from Warner Bros.' own catalog like DC Comics,
11:34 Harry Potter, Scooby-Doo, and more.
11:37 But we did get expansions from outside the corporation.
11:40 The Simpsons, Sonic the Hedgehog, Portal, Ghostbusters, and even Back to the Future
11:44 had prominent roles in the game's story and free roam.
11:54 Heck we even almost got a third year of expansions that would have added Dreamworks franchises
11:58 in like Shrek.
12:00 Lego Dimensions was a real treat for the few of us that got to play it.
12:08 Dead by Daylight
12:18 We understand that Dead by Daylight was not intended to be as much of a crossover game
12:22 as it is today.
12:23 But ever since Michael Myers was added in, we've seen the door kicked off of its hinges.
12:28 Now we've got Freddy Krueger, Saw, Resident Evil, Ash from Evil Dead, The Ring, and even
12:34 Ripley and the Xenomorph from Alien.
12:43 On top of that, Nancy, Steve, and the Demogorgon from Stranger Things have returned to the
12:48 game after being delisted for two whole years.
12:51 And that's what makes Dead by Daylight the ultimate love letter to horror movies, TV,
12:57 and video games.
12:58 We know some folks are begging for Five Nights at Freddy's to make its entrance, but we
13:02 already got the best bear in gaming.
13:05 It's naughty time!
13:14 PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale
13:24 Now when you look at half of the roster, PlayStation All-Stars makes total sense.
13:29 You know, Sweet Tooth fighting Kratos while Noriko and Fat Princess take on Spike from
13:33 Ape Escape and Parappa the Rapper.
13:36 It's when you look at the third party stuff where things get weird.
13:44 Heihachi makes some sense, with Tekken being on PlayStation for the early years, sure,
13:50 and you can sort of make a case for Dante, but the Big Daddy from Bioshock?
13:56 Isaac Clarke from Dead Space?
13:59 Raiden from Metal Gear Rising?
14:01 And why is Cole split into two separate characters?
14:04 Strange choices made for this title, for sure.
14:13 Fortune Street Series
14:21 So we could totally see a game where Mario, Dragon Quest, and Final Fantasy get smushed
14:25 together.
14:26 After all, Nintendo and Square Enix have done several collaborations throughout their history.
14:32 But why make the mashup a convoluted game of Monopoly?
14:43 We were really hoping for something like an epic RPG, like Super Mario RPG, or at the
14:48 very least, a weird platformer, or a mix of the two, like in Super Paper Mario.
14:54 Instead, we just see them buying properties and investing in stocks.
15:00 Not what we had in mind, but in their defense, Fortune Street is a great franchise, if you
15:07 like that sort of thing.
15:09 I certainly do, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it to just anybody.
15:21 Poker Night Series
15:27 The Poker Night games are still trippy to look back on.
15:31 This short-lived duology from Telltale Games mashed a handful of games together for a simple
15:36 yet hilarious night of Texas Hold 'Em.
15:39 In the first game, we had Max from Sam & Max, Tycho from Penny Arcade, The Heavy from Team
15:44 Fortress 2, and Strong Bad.
15:51 Poker Night 2, on the other hand, had you facing Brock from Venture Brothers, Claptrap
15:55 from Borderlands, and Ash Williams from Evil Dead, with Sam taking Max's place this time.
16:01 And somehow, both groups of players had unique conversations with each other that made sense
16:06 in how they talked, asked each other questions, and reacted to certain plays.
16:11 Such a shame that you can't buy these titles anywhere anymore.
16:20 Nicktoons MLB
16:29 Now we've seen plenty of Nickelodeon crossover games over the years between Nicktoons Unite
16:34 in the old days and the modern Nickelodeon Kart Racers and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl
16:38 2.
16:39 However, what was the reason behind Nicktoons MLB?
16:49 Who thought it made sense to put SpongeBob and Invader Zim next to real-life MLB players?
16:56 This choice wasn't just odd in aesthetic, but also logic.
17:00 If you wanted a baseball game with Nicktoons characters, why not just make one without
17:05 the MLB license unnecessarily tied to it?
17:09 This didn't make any sense.
17:10 It didn't make a lick of sense.
17:18 Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle really had no business being
17:29 as good as it was.
17:31 But aside from the exceptional quality between that and its sequel Sparks of Hope, the Mario
17:36 + Rabbids games were incredibly strange choices for a crossover.
17:47 First you have Mario and friends teaming up with Rabbid versions of themselves, then you
17:51 gave them weapons that neither franchises would ever wield.
17:56 And to make it more bizarre, the first game added Donkey Kong in an expansion, while the
18:00 second game brought back our beloved Rayman.
18:03 In other words, these were fever dream games we never knew we wanted.
18:17 Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
18:27 Call of Duty did have a visual identity once upon a time.
18:31 If you wanted a realistic, gritty, literal boots on the ground military FPS, you could
18:37 find solace here every single year.
18:40 The thing about Modern Warfare 2 is that the crossover stuff is getting way too out of
18:45 control.
18:55 Now we can understand why somebody like Snoop Dogg is in it, but Nicki Minaj?
19:01 Lara Croft?
19:03 Ghost Face?
19:04 Spawn?
19:05 Doom?
19:06 Crash Bandicoot?
19:07 Why not bring back operators from past games if you want to be crossing over characters?
19:13 These characters are cool every once in a while, but when it's all the time, well,
19:17 is this even Call of Duty anymore?
19:26 Fortnite
19:33 Though it was never intended to be a crossover, Fortnite has become the weirdest and most
19:38 egregious crossover game ever made.
19:41 Look, we will admit that the gameplay is actually really fun, especially now that we have the
19:45 no build modes, but come on.
19:55 We got Naruto using an AR on Kratos, who is lobbing grenades at the Terminator, who is
20:00 sniping Optimus Prime, who has a bow and arrow aimed at Master Chief, all while The Rock
20:06 barks commands for story purposes and Goku glides down with the Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters.
20:12 What in the absolute hell is this game anymore?
20:16 What is happening here?
20:24 What was the weirdest crossover game you've played?
20:27 Did it make our list?
