00:00 [SIDE CONVERSATION]
00:03 How are we doing?
00:11 Good evening.
00:12 Welcome to our press conference ahead of tomorrow night's match.
00:15 We'll have around 12 minutes with Eddie now,
00:16 then 12 with Nick Pope, and then if you
00:18 want to make yourself upstairs for training at 6.30.
00:22 Sorry?
00:22 Is it a strict 12?
00:23 Yes.
00:24 I was going to say.
00:26 Keep going.
00:26 We'll start with the Downing at Sky Sports.
00:28 Hi, Keith. Just in the middle.
00:32 Hi, Eddie.
00:32 Nice to see you.
00:33 How are the walking wounded ahead of this one?
00:37 And I don't mean yourself.
00:38 Yeah.
00:39 Not too much change, Keith, to be honest.
00:41 I think we're pretty much as we were.
00:43 But with a few absentees, obviously,
00:45 lads that can't play in the Champions League.
00:47 Any further update on Joe Willock?
00:49 I know you said you weren't too sure
00:50 after the game at the weekend.
00:52 Yeah, still unsure.
00:53 I think he's seeing a specialist tomorrow.
00:55 OK.
00:56 And no chance of Sean being back involved for this one.
01:00 Sean Longstaff?
01:01 Quite remote, as he hasn't travelled.
01:03 So I doubt it.
01:05 How are you coping with that?
01:07 Because obviously, you're having to ask a lot of the players who
01:10 are playing full 90 minutes.
01:13 What is the mood around the camp like
01:15 of those who have been heavily involved
01:17 over the last couple of weeks?
01:18 Yeah, the mood of the group's very good,
01:20 especially after the result of the weekend.
01:22 I think that was a pivotal moment for us.
01:25 Because as I said, after the game,
01:27 very easy to feel sorry for yourselves
01:28 or to focus on the players that aren't with us.
01:32 The lads did incredibly well to blank that out and just perform,
01:36 and perform at a very high level to win
01:38 against a very good Chelsea team.
01:40 We'll go to Matthew Riesbeck and then Lee Ryder.
01:42 Matthew?
01:43 Hi, Eddie.
01:43 Hi, Matthew.
01:44 In Milan and in Dortmund, you didn't train at the stadium
01:48 the day before the match.
01:49 But here in Paris tonight, you will.
01:50 So why have you changed it for this one?
01:53 Yeah, change of feel.
01:55 Just a different routine.
01:58 You never know how these things affect your performances.
02:01 The results, you can never guarantee.
02:05 But performance, we're looking for an improvement
02:07 from our two away games.
02:08 So that's why we've done what we've done today.
02:10 And after the win over Chelsea, you
02:12 spoke about Lewis Miley and how impressed you were.
02:14 And he featured towards the end of the match in Dortmund.
02:17 But I suppose there's a chance he could be involved
02:20 for longer tomorrow night.
02:22 How ready is he for that step up if he has to start a Champions
02:25 League fixture?
02:27 Yeah, there's every chance he'll be involved again.
02:30 Yeah, I think he's ready.
02:31 I think he-- the thing I loved about him after the game,
02:34 he was just the same Louis.
02:35 It was as if he hadn't done anything.
02:37 It was just another game for him.
02:39 And I think that's how he would need to approach this game.
02:42 Sometimes the more you build up a game,
02:44 the worse your performance can be.
02:45 So he's got a great temperament for these occasions.
02:48 OK, Lee Ryder and then Luke Edwards.
02:51 I think there was quite a lot of edge in the first game.
02:53 And Louis-Henrique was quite angry.
02:56 I don't know exactly why after the game.
02:58 Obviously, he got hammered.
02:59 But Newcastle go into this one.
03:02 Do you thrive on that sort of danger
03:05 going into a game like this?
03:08 Yeah, I think it's good to have all those mixture of emotions
03:11 going into a match.
03:12 I think there needs to be-- we need to play on the edge.
03:14 I think we're at our best.
03:16 I think every team is at their best
03:17 when they have that different emotion running through them.
03:23 So I expect that from the players tomorrow.
03:25 We're going to need every ounce of motivation, energy
03:31 to get a result here.
03:33 This is the defining moment in our Champions League campaign.
03:35 We're well aware of where we sit in the group
03:37 and what can happen tomorrow.
03:40 So we're going to give it everything.
03:42 And then Babe didn't have a great game
03:44 against St. James' Park.
03:45 Is it asking too much for him to have another off night
03:48 tomorrow?
03:50 It's difficult to talk about their players and their team.
03:53 They have quality in every position.
03:55 And I think since we've played them,
03:57 they've scored goals for fun.
03:58 So we will do our best defensively.
04:01 I have to say that our structure in the team,
04:04 our defensive resilience has been good,
04:06 probably bar the Bournemouth game.
04:07 We've been good in that respect.
04:08 And we're going to need to be every ounce as good as we can
04:10 be.
04:11 OK.
04:11 Luke Edwards.
04:12 Hi.
04:13 I don't know if he can hear you speaking now.
04:15 How important has Nick Pope been for you
04:17 since he came in over a year ago now?
04:19 But can you just talk a little bit about what
04:21 he's brought to the team and the defence?
04:24 Yeah, he's been huge for us.
04:26 He's brought a real confidence, I think, to the back line.
04:30 We're lucky to have some very good goalkeepers at the football
04:33 club.
04:33 And Nick is quite unique with his skill set.
04:36 I think you could see, again, from the Chelsea game.
04:38 So the save he made, I can't remember actually who it was
04:41 from, but in the first half against Chelsea,
04:43 it was an outstanding save.
04:44 Probably under-highlighted, really, even in my mind
04:47 until I saw it again, how good that save was.
04:49 And it's those key moments, it's those big saves
04:51 that he's made since he's been here that has really
04:53 elevated us as a team.
04:56 He's a very calm guy, very popular in the dressing room,
04:59 a lot of fun to be around.
05:01 So on and off the pitch, I think he's made a big contribution.
05:03 I know it's not your concern, but are you
05:05 a little bit surprised he's not back involved in the England
05:08 squad?
05:09 Yeah, I've been asked this a lot.
05:10 I think I can never put myself in Gareth's shoes.
05:14 I've never walked in those shoes as an international manager,
05:16 so I can't and I never will critique his decisions.
05:20 He knows all about Nick.
05:21 He knows his qualities.
05:23 I'm sure he's right in his mind.
05:26 Damien Spellman?
05:26 Hi, Eddie.
05:33 Lewis Henrique this morning spoke
05:35 about how impressed he was with the intensity with which he
05:38 played against Chelsea.
05:39 Do you have to reproduce that tomorrow night
05:41 or do you have to play in a different way here?
05:46 I think we need different tools for different games.
05:48 We've sort of had one successful--
05:53 I say one successful formula.
05:55 We've had different ways, but one main force
05:58 or one way of playing that has been a big force for us.
06:02 But we have tweaked from different games.
06:04 We've had different game plans.
06:07 Certainly this is a one-off game for us.
06:09 So quite how we're going to prepare
06:11 and what we're going to do, you'll have to wait and see.
06:13 But I think the hallmark of how we play can never
06:16 change the fundamentals, but there
06:17 will be tweaks around the opposition as there always is.
06:20 Do you stand at the front on the right-hand side?
06:22 I'm Pierre from French newspaper L'Equipe.
06:26 Just a few words about Anthony Gordon.
06:28 How can you explain that he's been so good this season
06:31 compared to his first few months at Newcastle?
06:35 Yeah, he has.
06:36 And he's been in great form for us.
06:38 When we signed him, we knew we were signing a player
06:40 of huge potential, real ability, pace, technical ability.
06:45 And I think the big thing for him recently
06:47 has been he's been adding goals and assists.
06:49 So I think when you look at his last game,
06:51 it's a brilliant goal he scored when he moved to the striker
06:55 role.
06:55 And his cross for Jamal Assel's goal was--
06:59 I said it after the game-- was probably the key moment.
07:01 And it was a moment of quality that
07:03 helped secure us the three points.
07:04 So from my perspective, his work rate off the ball
07:08 has been at a really high level all through his time here.
07:11 But we really encourage him to keep
07:13 adding those valuable goal contributions to us.
07:17 John Murray in the middle here, and then Craig Hope.
07:19 Hi, Eddie.
07:24 When you say this is the defining moment of the Champions
07:28 League campaign, when you look at the group, when you study it
07:31 and it's 7-6, 5-4, what do you think
07:33 is the minimum that you need from these final two matches?
07:36 Or are you thinking you might have to win them both?
07:39 Yeah, it is difficult to predict, as you know, John,
07:42 when you're doing your job, to predict football matches
07:44 and what the results may be and the permutations
07:46 of other games.
07:47 We try not to lose energy doing that.
07:49 I think from our side, we prepare
07:51 to try and win this game.
07:52 That's all we can do, and then worry about Milan afterwards.
07:55 We're certainly not in a strong position.
07:57 We're not in the position that we wanted to be.
08:00 But we are where we are.
08:01 We have to just focus on this game,
08:04 and I think it's imperative we don't lose.
08:07 And how do you think you are coping with it,
08:09 with the workload that you've had,
08:11 never having been in this position?
08:13 There was so much talk about it this season,
08:14 with all of the demands and all of the competitions,
08:17 and obviously the injuries are what they are.
08:20 But generally?
08:22 Generally, I've said many times, I'm personally really
08:25 enjoying everything that's happening this season,
08:28 in terms of the competitions, the build-up to games,
08:31 the analysing and preparing of games.
08:33 I'm really enjoying that side of it.
08:35 The only disappointment is the injuries from our side,
08:38 because it's taken away our ability to rotate and maybe
08:42 do a little bit more tactically.
08:44 It's left us a little bit one-dimensional.
08:46 But that's where we are.
08:48 And again, we're trying to concentrate
08:49 on what we can control and not what we can't.
08:52 Craig Holt and then Simon Bird.
08:54 A continuation on the subject of Anthony Gordon.
08:56 Is he emerging as something of a talisman for you?
08:58 He's only missed one game this season.
09:00 Is he becoming your Kieran Mbappe in many ways?
09:04 Good headline, Craig, that one.
09:05 [LAUGHTER]
09:08 Yeah, well, he's a unique player himself.
09:10 Yes, I mean, he's played games.
09:11 He's been robust for us.
09:12 And that's something we're putting more and more
09:15 importance on with our players, because players
09:18 that can continue to play every two, three days,
09:20 that's a skill in itself, I think.
09:23 I think he's done very well physically this year,
09:25 because the outputs he gives the team are extremely high
09:28 every week.
09:28 But he's managing at the moment to recover and then go again.
09:32 He plays, a little bit like you said earlier,
09:34 sort of on the edge.
09:37 He's a fierce competitor.
09:38 And yeah, I'm delighted with his progress this season.
09:41 He's really come on.
09:42 And he's become a massive player for us.
09:44 And he was up against on Saturday a couple of Chelsea
09:46 players, similar age, similar profile,
09:49 who are in the England set-up.
09:50 Anthony isn't.
09:51 Does that surprise you?
09:53 Similar answer to the one I gave earlier.
09:55 I'm not going to critique Gareth's decisions.
09:57 Gareth will be watching him.
09:59 I think his emergence has been quite quick this year.
10:03 So he's really started his goal contributions and assists,
10:07 as I said earlier, in the last few months.
10:09 So I'm sure Gareth will be watching him closely
10:11 with the summer in mind.
10:12 OK, Simon, Oscar, and then Martin.
10:14 Hi, Eddie.
10:15 Just back to the reasoning that you're
10:17 training tonight before the game.
10:18 Is that a psychological thing as well,
10:20 just to get a feel of the stadium?
10:22 Is that kind of element as well?
10:24 Yeah, I think some players might look at that and want that,
10:27 or need that, or feel they want that.
10:30 For us also, it gave us a little bit more recovery time at home.
10:34 So we gave the players a little bit longer
10:36 with their families this morning,
10:38 and then travelled a bit later.
10:39 So I think that may be important as well with the schedule
10:43 we have, just to try and pinch hours at home
10:45 with their families before we leave.
10:47 And the other issue that's been building
10:49 in the last couple of days, you always
10:50 get great support from the away fans on your travels.
10:54 Two of the owners tweeted on Saturday night
10:56 that they wanted the crowd at St. James' Park to be louder,
11:00 and that they wanted the crowd to match
11:01 the intensity of the team, which has created quite a debate
11:05 amongst the fan base.
11:05 Do you agree with them?
11:07 I think the supporters, for me, have been incredible,
11:10 home and away.
11:12 I thought the Chelsea game, when we scored the goals,
11:15 was as good as it's been.
11:17 So I think the owners are always thinking of the team
11:20 and always thinking of the club.
11:21 And I think since they've come through the door,
11:23 they've also been equally as magnificent as the supporters.
11:26 So together, I think we're a strong team.
11:28 Oscar?
11:29 Eddie, in hindsight, and when you've
11:30 been looking for the reasons for the potentially under-performed
11:33 performances in Milan and Dortmund,
11:35 do you think it is linked at all to not coming over and training
11:38 in the stadiums at all?
11:40 Personally, no.
11:42 But there's no harm in ever trying anything different.
11:45 I'm always open to anything that I think can inspire the players.
11:49 So just trying a different route in this game.
11:53 Martin?
11:54 Hi, Eddie.
11:54 You've said before the fear of failure drives you on.
11:58 Is the fear of exiting Europe after five games, which
12:01 could happen if you were to lose here and Milan were to win,
12:03 is that a big motivatory factor for you in this?
12:05 Yes, fear of failure is a motivating factor for me
12:12 in my career.
12:15 The thought of losing doesn't sit comfortably with me.
12:18 Any game, pre-season friendly, competition, Champions League,
12:22 everything for me is geared to try and avoid
12:25 that feeling of losing and the elation of winning.
12:28 So of course that applies to this game.
12:30 I don't think it's a bigger motivation for me,
12:32 because I feel I'm motivated for every game in the same way.
12:35 And as the Newcastle manager, what does it feel like for you
12:38 arriving at this stadium ahead of such a big game?
12:40 And what is the hunger like for yourself and the squad?
12:43 I don't think the motivation, hunger,
12:48 could be any bigger for us at the moment.
12:51 But I include every game in that.
12:52 The feeling before the Chelsea game was the same.
12:54 We were desperate to beat Bournemouth the game before that.
12:57 And there's a real motivation in the squad
12:59 to make memories and create an incredible season for ourselves
13:02 this year.
13:04 And we can still do that in this competition,
13:05 and it's driving us forward every day.
13:08 Simon O'Rourke, last one.
13:09 Similar note to that, Eddie.
13:10 You said before you won't really know what you get
13:13 from the whole Champions League experience
13:14 until it comes to an end, whenever that may be.
13:16 But to be here at a place like this,
13:19 against a team like this,
13:20 still in with a chance of getting out of the group,
13:23 that's a huge thing for the club and for the players
13:26 and for everyone, isn't it?
13:28 Well, it is, and we want to be in it as long as we can.
13:30 And that makes tomorrow a huge moment in our season.
13:34 So today we prepare.
13:37 We try and build our game plan,
13:39 we try and get ready to execute what we need to do
13:43 to try and be competitive in the game,
13:44 and then it's over to the players.
13:47 OK, thank you.
13:48 Thank you.
13:49 Just a quick 12 minutes.
13:51 Come on, then.
13:52 13 minutes.
13:53 Do I not get Lee, no?
14:17 He'll do, he'll do.
14:22 We've got the headliners.
14:23 Good evening, everyone.
14:24 We'll start with Keith in the middle.
14:25 Hi, Nick, you OK?
14:33 How big a task is this going to be?
14:36 I mean, obviously, they've got great players all over the pitch,
14:39 but since the win at St James' Park a couple of months ago,
14:42 Kylian Mbappe scored 14 in 12,
14:45 which shows everything about his ability,
14:48 and of course, not forgetting the rest of his PSG teammates.
14:52 Yeah, Chisler.
14:53 Yeah, of course, tough game.
14:55 All the games in Europe are tough games,
14:57 especially the away ones,
14:58 so, yeah, a good challenge for us.
15:01 Exciting thing to be a part of.
15:04 I think we spoke about it in the group
15:06 that at the back end of last season
15:08 when we were chasing Champions League,
15:10 what would we have given in that moment to be where we are now?
15:14 So, yeah, of course, it's a challenge tomorrow night,
15:17 but we're happy to be here and we're looking forward to it.
15:20 There's obviously an injury crisis going on at the club at the moment.
15:23 You're down to the bare bones in terms of options.
15:25 The manager's saying he's not able to rotate at all at the moment.
15:29 How are you guys that are playing every week, every minute almost,
15:33 how are you guys dealing with that in such small numbers?
15:37 Yeah, part of the challenge, I think.
15:40 As a player, maybe if you're getting subbed after 60 minutes or 70 minutes,
15:45 you say you want to play 90, so there's no complaints.
15:48 The players that are playing have got a real responsibility
15:52 to play at our top level, and I think that's what we've taken on.
15:57 We've got a great group of characters at the club,
15:59 and that's what we need in these moments.
16:01 Although there's plenty of competition on the bench, isn't there,
16:04 for the goalkeeper?
16:05 You've got three of them breathing down your neck now.
16:07 Yeah, three cats on the bench.
16:09 I don't think that's been seen too often in Premier League history.
16:13 But, yeah, it just shows where we are at the minute.
16:16 Like I say, I think teams throughout the season will go through stages
16:20 where they have more injuries than other teams,
16:22 and this just seems to be our moment at the minute.
16:25 But like I say, the characters in the squad,
16:28 they're the ones that are going to carry us through,
16:31 and that's what we have to do.
16:32 Thanks, Matt.
16:33 Luke in front, please.
16:35 Hi, Nick.
16:37 How do you assess your own form this season?
16:39 How do you think it's gone for you?
16:41 OK, we'd like to do better in some moments, I think.
16:44 Really happy with other things.
16:46 I suppose that's like every season.
16:48 If you're 12, 15, 20 games into a season,
16:51 you like to nitpick and do certain things better
16:55 and be happy in other moments.
16:57 So, yeah, I think that's how I feel.
16:59 I think there's always room for improvement.
17:01 Because those of us who watch you every week playing for Newcastle,
17:04 we're slightly mystified why you're not in the England squad.
17:07 Have you had any conversations with Gareth about that,
17:10 as to why you're not in?
17:12 No, not to be honest.
17:14 He's got a lot of players to look after and figure things on his mind.
17:18 And as individual players sometimes, I'm sure it's not anything against him.
17:23 You can't speak to every player that's not in an England squad.
17:26 So, just for me, it's motivation to do better.
17:29 There's no need to look anywhere else apart from in the mirror at myself.
17:33 I want to be in the England squad and be part of the tournament at the end of the year.
17:37 At the minute, I'm not in his squad.
17:41 So, it's up to myself.
17:43 There hasn't been any fallout or anything over the summer when you pulled out?
17:47 I don't think so.
17:49 No, of course, I had my finger surgery the day after the Leicester game.
17:53 It was obviously six months overdue, really.
17:57 So, yeah, no, nothing like that.
18:00 Thank you.
18:01 We've got Mark and then John Murray.
18:03 Nick, we've just spoken to Eddie about Lewis Miley
18:06 and how excellent he was at the weekend.
18:09 Has he ever known a player make the impact at the age that he has
18:12 that he's managed to do in the last few weeks?
18:15 Hard to think on the spot, but I can't say.
18:19 I didn't see it coming.
18:20 If you watched us pre-season, we played against Chelsea at the Mercedes-Benz in Atlanta.
18:27 Possibly the best player on the pitch.
18:30 So, he had an injury, an illness, and it was obviously difficult for him.
18:35 He's obviously got himself right to come back into the team now.
18:39 I thought down at Bournemouth we didn't shine a great light on ourselves that day,
18:45 but he certainly didn't let anyone down.
18:48 He was probably our best player that day as well.
18:50 So, yeah, no surprise at the weekend against Chelsea that he put in a top performance.
18:54 And if he plays tomorrow, presumably you think he's ready for the kind of company he'll be keeping tomorrow?
18:59 Yeah, of course.
19:02 I think he's going to be a top player and he's got a great attitude and willingness to learn.
19:08 Obviously a top manager in front of him as well,
19:11 and players around him that look after him and want him to do well.
19:16 They've been at that stage in their careers, 17-year-old, trying to break into a first team
19:21 and doing everything they can to help him.
19:23 So, yeah, I think he's in a good spot.
19:25 John?
19:27 Hi, Nick.
19:28 The manager was talking about how you've come here to train tonight
19:32 in an effort to improve how you've performed away from home in the Champions League.
19:37 Could you compare why it's different?
19:40 Does it feel different playing away on big grounds, big atmospheres in the Champions League,
19:46 compared to going away to Old Trafford or Anfield or wherever it happens to be domestically?
19:51 I'm not sure.
19:54 I see the travel's slightly different going abroad,
19:57 but for myself I'm easy either way if I'm honest.
20:02 As a goalkeeper you may be up to being in that sort of attitude,
20:07 because things happen out of your control sometimes but can affect things on a pitch.
20:13 So, yeah, happy to train tonight, happy to get a feel for the ground
20:17 and be on the grass with the lads, but equally as happy if we don't do it.
20:23 Preparation, I think each game we take individually and a lot goes into each and every game.
20:28 So, yeah, looking forward to being on the grass soon.
20:32 I'm sure you've studied the table and had a look at it.
20:35 What do you think you need?
20:37 A win would be nice.
20:39 It's not going to do any harm in any group at any stage.
20:43 It obviously keeps it in our hands as well,
20:46 which is something that would be nice going into the Milan at home game.
20:50 But, yeah, full focus has got to be on tomorrow night and taking it one game at a time.
20:55 Like I say, every game we go into we've got to look to win,
20:58 whether that's League Cup, Champions League, League.
21:02 I believe we're a top team and top team behaviours and top team attitudes,
21:08 that's what it is.
21:10 Whoever the opponent may be, however good they are,
21:12 we have to have the belief and the attitude that we want to win the game.
21:16 Martin and then Lee Ryder, please.
21:18 Hi, Nick.
21:20 Were you talking there about a specific squad meeting
21:23 where you were talking about this game and the consequences of this game,
21:26 or were the players just talking in general about what tonight means?
21:30 Just in general, really, not game-specific,
21:33 just where we are at with the injuries.
21:36 We don't want the season to...
21:41 We don't want excuses, basically, and we spoke about that as well.
21:45 Like I say, different points in seasons, teams will go through tough stages,
21:49 and that's for everyone to go through.
21:53 We're no different to everyone else, we've got to roll our sleeves up and take it on.
21:57 And in terms of your career, where does this game rank for size
22:00 in terms of the consequence of what could happen with defeat or victory?
22:05 Yeah, Biggel and Morecambe away with York City, I suppose.
22:12 Yeah, it's up there, it's important.
22:14 Like I said before, when we're in March, February, April,
22:17 chasing Champions League spots,
22:19 us as a squad, fans, everyone around the club would have given anything to be in the moment.
22:24 We're in right now, so, yeah, positive attitudes.
22:28 So you haven't contemplated exiting Europe or the Champions League tomorrow night?
22:32 Concentrate on winning and then we'll go from there.
22:38 You mentioned York, I was just going to ask you about,
22:41 you got the goalposts from Bwtham Crescent, or Kit Kat Crescent, if I'm right.
22:47 Could you have believed when you were getting that as a souvenir
22:51 that you would potentially be playing at such a prestigious venue like this?
22:55 Maybe not, they cost me 500 quid, so it's a good job we are here.
23:00 No, of course, in your career sometimes things go maybe better than you thought,
23:07 maybe sometimes less than you thought.
23:09 When I signed for the football club 18 months or so ago,
23:13 maybe I wasn't thinking we'd be in the Champions League this quickly, maybe.
23:16 But I was excited by the team I signed for and the players they did have and the manager,
23:22 so I would never write it off, definitely.
23:25 I'm obviously pleased to be where we are now.
23:27 Obviously it was your save that got Newcastle the Champions League.
23:30 Good performance in Milan as well.
23:34 Would you prefer a night where you're busy or would you take a quiet night?
23:38 I don't think you're going to get a quiet one tomorrow,
23:40 but would you take a quiet night ahead of being the hero?
23:43 Whatever leads to three points.
23:46 Saying that Mugole won was always the best result, so whatever it takes.
23:52 We've got a gentleman right at the back of the room,
23:55 and if we could just work our way down to Declan,
23:57 and then a gentleman in the row in front of him as well, please.
24:02 Good evening, you were very attacking at home.
24:05 Good evening, over here.
24:13 You were very attacking at home at Newcastle.
24:16 Did the coach ask you to be a bit more on the attack tomorrow,
24:20 or will you keep the same intensity and keep attacking and attacking?
24:23 Thank you.
24:25 I'm waiting to see, I suppose.
24:27 But like the manager said, we've got certain fundamentals and beliefs
24:32 that we believe in, that we have to stick to, that is true to our core.
24:36 And then things around that can be tweaked to suit certain games
24:42 in certain situations.
24:44 I think you have to have that sort of flexibility at the top level.
24:48 Thank you. We'll go to Declan with the headphones on there.
24:51 Hey Nick, how's it going? Just two from me.
24:54 Just a quick one on Lewis. He's obviously so young,
24:57 but what's he actually like in the dressing room?
24:59 What's he like to train with? Just give us a bit of an insight into him.
25:02 Lewis Miley, not Lewis Hall.
25:05 Sorry, Lewis.
25:06 Lewis Miley.
25:07 Yeah, really great nature about him.
25:10 Someone that you wouldn't look at and think that
25:15 it's just probably been a man-of-match weekend against Chelsea.
25:19 17 years old, really seems like he's taken it all in his stride.
25:24 And in the same way, he's got a nice aura and air of confidence about him.
25:30 He was named in the starting line-up at the weekend and at Bournemouth.
25:35 And no one in the dressing room batted an eyelid.
25:38 We all had full belief in him.
25:40 And just bringing it back to England,
25:42 when you look at the current trio in that squad,
25:44 what more can you do?
25:46 And at any stage this season, has it played on your mind at all?
25:49 You can always do more.
25:52 There's more clean sheets to be had, more saves, better performances.
25:58 Like I said previously, I want to look inwardly at that.
26:02 Not that, you know, Gareth's decision to leave me out,
26:05 I've got to make it that he can't leave me out.
26:07 Thank you. And the gentleman in the row in front, just to finish us off, please.
26:11 Hi, Nick.
26:12 My name is Ojorababa.
26:14 I'm from OGB Sports.
26:16 Even after the wide margin win against PSG at St James' Park,
26:20 many doubters still believe the win was more of a fluke.
26:24 Are you going to prove them wrong tomorrow
26:26 with such a heroic performance again tomorrow?
26:31 Certainly hope so.
26:33 We put in a top performance that night.
26:36 You know, we're ruthless in front of goal.
26:39 And I think, you know, the last two games,
26:41 against Dortmund, we haven't had that ruthless edge.
26:44 And that's what's cost us the points in them games.
26:48 So certainly, you know, good performance with a ruthless edge
26:51 and we'll be in a good spot.
26:53 Thank you very much, everyone.
26:55 We'll go through for training shortly.
26:57 Thank you.
26:58 Cheers, guys.
26:59 Thank you.
27:00 Cheers, guys.
27:01 Thank you.
