00:00 Malaysia, Cherry Yeo Xiaowei!
00:04 Meet Cherry Yeo Xiaowei, a talented 18-year-old who's been dancing since she was 6.
00:20 Recently, Yeo made the nation proud after winning three gold medals at the prestigious Mallorca Dance Festival in Spain.
00:28 The Petaling Jaya-born dancer was pronounced champion in the World Dance Sport Federation Solo Female Adult Latin and Solo Female Youth Latin competitions,
00:37 as well as the Mallorca Dance Festival Open Solo Female Youth Latin competition.
00:42 Actually, it wasn't that nerve-wracking for me because I didn't set a lot of expectations.
00:48 Since this was the first ever solo competition, I participated overseas.
00:54 So I was kind of just there to have more fun and just to see what the level and standard of dancing is like in a different country.
01:03 For the competition, Yeo had to demonstrate five styles of dance.
01:08 The Samba, Chacha, Rumba, Pasadoble and Jive.
01:12 I definitely felt like I made the country proud.
01:16 Seeing my name up there with the Malaysia flag, it definitely was a new feeling. I've never felt this way before.
01:25 Yeo has been training with coaches Chua Zhenfeng and Yvonne Chong since she was 11.
01:31 Chua had plenty of praise for Yeo's performance, which he said showcased a combination of her strengths.
01:37 The consistency of her stamina, her performance, that's the main key one.
01:41 Her flexibility is another one, given that she's a former gymnast as well.
01:46 Her lines, her facial expression is one of the rare ones that you can find.
01:51 She's very natural. So these are the things that actually capture the judges' eye in.
01:55 Yeo will soon be heading to Hong Kong for her next dancing competition.
01:59 What advice does she have for aspiring Malaysian dancers?
02:03 Never give up and if you really love it, then just go for it.
02:09 Tivya Ragu and Terence To, FMT Lifestyle.
