00:00The thunderous sounds of lion dance drums are instantly recognizable in Malaysia.

00:10And who doesn't love watching the vibrant costumes, dazzling acrobatics, and rhythmic

00:15movements of this classic art form?

00:18Lion dance may be a traditional Chinese performance, but today it is practiced by people of all

00:24races and backgrounds.

00:26Meet the Muhyibah Lion Dance Troupe, set to be the oldest multicultural lion dance group

00:32in Malaysia.

00:34It comprises members of all races, genders, and backgrounds, brought together by the love

00:40of this festive showcase of talent, stamina, and strength.

00:44Muhyibah started as part of the Malaysia Airlines Lion Dance Troupe before branching off and

00:49officially forming in 1983.

00:51It came on naturally.

00:52The thing is that when we were all together performing, we didn't look at each other as

00:53a color, the class, the creed, the religion.

00:54We didn't look at that.

00:55So over the time as we performed, over the years, and we forged, all of us forged a foundation

00:56among ourselves that we treated each other like a family.

00:57Today, the 40 members of the Lion Dance Troupe are performing at the National Lion Dance

00:58Festival in Singapore.

01:20Today, the 40-member group regularly performs at events around the Klang Valley every Chinese

01:26New Year.

01:28Training can be tough, but as the members attest, it is worth every second.

01:33Every time I practice, I sometimes surprise myself what I can do, like jumping on a very

01:40high chair or table, and I didn't even know that I can do it.

01:46And then every time I perform, you know, on a very high ground, then when you success,

01:55you know, you feel very satisfied.

01:58The group hopes that more Malaysians, regardless of background, will discover the joys of

02:03this classic tradition.

02:05Oh yes, lion dance always bring people together, especially not only between us, the dancers,

02:13but the people around that we dance to.

02:17A lot of them, you know, they ask us questions and stuff like that, and at the end of the

02:24day, how we respect each other and how they respect us.

02:28I think if Malaysia can have that kind of mindset that we are all equal, we can accept

02:38each other, I think it will be a very beautiful country.
