Some QB options for Miami in the transfer portal
Alex Donno reviews some of the early options for Miami when it comes to transfer portal quarterbacks. How will the Hurricanes replace Tyler Van Dyke?

00:03 who's announced he's gonna be hitting the transfer portal
00:05 is Kansas State's Will Howard.
00:08 Will Howard is entering the portal.
00:10 This is an interesting prospect to me.
00:13 And I don't wanna be prospect, he's an experienced guy,
00:15 but this is an interesting option to me.
00:18 He's not necessarily my favorite,
00:21 but as a passer, you know, decent numbers,
00:24 61.3% of his passes completed for 2,643 yards.
00:30 This year with 24 touchdowns, 10 interceptions.
00:33 But what makes Howard intriguing to me,
00:35 this is Will Howard of Kansas State,
00:36 is he can move, right?
00:39 This past season, he recorded 364 rushing yards
00:42 and nine ground touchdowns.
00:44 So 31 or 33 total touchdowns, 24 through the year,
00:49 nine on the ground.
00:49 So like, if you're talking about, you know,
00:52 if you're talking about players that, you know,
00:54 can offer more of a dual threat,
00:56 which is obviously something Tyler Van Dyke did not offer,
00:58 it's something Emory Williams does not offer.

01:05 a little bit more mobile.

01:10 like Mario and the staff don't know."

01:29 that Mississippi State could be a good fit
01:32 for Tyler Van Dyke.

01:36 Mississippi State is losing their quarterback,
01:38 which I think could be an option for Miami,
01:41 and Tyler Van Dyke is on the market now.
01:43 So Will Rogers is the quarterback from Mississippi State.
01:46 He announced right after the Egg Bowl,
01:49 he announced he's hitting the portal.
01:50 We talked about him over the last couple of days.
01:53 You know, he's the second all-time leading passer
01:56 in SEC history.
01:59 He does have a common lineage to Shannon Dawson
02:03 'cause Will Rogers, he came up in Mike Leach's air raid,
02:06 and Mike Leach and Shannon Dawson
02:08 come from the same air raid coaching tree from Hal Mummey,
02:12 so he's already comfortable with that type of offense
02:15 and that type of terminology, so that could be a fit there.
02:18 And then somebody pointed this out,
02:21 for those who follow the social media clues,
02:24 apparently Mario Cristobal is following Will Rogers
02:27 on Twitter, or X if you prefer.
02:30 So if you're looking for clues out there,
02:31 apparently Mario Cristobal is already following Will Rogers
02:35 from Mississippi State on social media,
02:37 so obviously that's somebody Miami
02:39 has gotta kick the tires on.
02:41 And you know, honestly, I think a guy who could be
02:45 possibly the best veteran option,
02:48 but he's not in the portal, at least not yet,
02:52 is Michael Pratt from Tulane.
02:54 So we're watching Pratt because I definitely don't think
02:57 he's staying at Tulane, and he's probably not gonna announce
03:00 anything, by the way, guys,
03:01 until after the AAC championship game,
03:04 'cause he's leading the green wave
03:06 to a conference title game, which I would imagine happens
03:09 probably on Friday or Saturday of this week,
03:11 so don't expect him to announce anything until after that,
03:15 but with Pratt, he has accepted a senior bowl invite.
03:20 Doesn't mean he has to show up,
03:22 so he's accepted a senior bowl invite,
03:24 which means he's at least kicking the tires
03:26 on the idea of trying to go pro.
03:28 I don't know how high his draft stock actually would be.
03:31 I think he could benefit from playing at a power five team
03:34 for a year to try to raise that draft stock even higher.
03:38 So we're kind of watching Pratt from, not from Louisville,
03:40 Pratt from Tulane to see if he ends up opting out
03:45 of his senior bowl invite
03:46 and maybe hitting the transfer portal.
03:49 I think somebody like that could be,
03:51 could be a potential quality option for Miami.
03:54 And yeah, if you're talking about a long-term quarterback,
03:58 'cause a lot of the names that we mentioned are guys
04:00 who could come in probably for a year in the transfer portal,
04:03 which I think, guys, it's super important
04:05 because I look at the roster Miami is building.
04:09 If you get the right quarterback fit for 2024,
04:13 this is a team, to me, that can absolutely contend
04:16 for an ACC championship,
04:18 and then if you're contending for an ACC title, who knows?
04:20 Like you might be able to get into that mix
04:23 for college football playoff.
04:24 I think Miami's got a really good roster.
04:26 You're obviously losing some guys.
