00:00 because you start playing with them.
00:01 Yeah, I'm really--
00:02 You burned your red shirt here and all that, too.
00:04 Tell me how that all evolved.
00:06 Well, I think it was USC week.
00:08 Sakai went down for a little bit.
00:10 He was injured.
00:11 And there's a spot on the team that coach needed me to fill.
00:14 And we talked about it, burning the red shirt and all that.
00:17 We figured for future-wise, it would work out just fine.
00:21 Were you surprised, though, when the opportunity came?
00:24 I mean, yeah, I would say I was ready for it.
00:26 It was a little bit surprising, though,
00:28 that it actually came to happen.
00:30 But when it came time to do it, I just had to be ready to go.
00:33 Now, are you kind of a hybrid?
00:35 Because you're coming out of stance on a speed-rushing unit.
00:39 Yeah.
00:39 And right here is a called-in head rusher.
00:41 Yeah.
00:41 Boyd does the same thing, I think.
00:43 Do you do that, too?
00:44 Yeah.
00:44 I play out of 3-tech a lot of the time.
00:46 So it flips around a little bit.
00:48 But I'd say I'm somewhat of a hybrid, yeah.
00:51 So you're pretty fired up about this?
00:53 Oh, yeah.
00:53 You're one of three freshmen that's
00:55 burning the red shirt here.
00:56 You're the only one I'd raise with a red shirt.
00:58 And that didn't happen a lot, especially
00:59 with a veteran team like this.
01:01 So you must be pleased with your college football progress.
01:05 Yeah, I mean, it's been a lot of fun so far, too, man.
01:08 I can't take away how getting to play football and getting
01:11 to be here is so much fun.
01:12 And getting to burn my red shirt while doing that,
01:14 it's been an honor.
01:16 Has there been a moment on the field
01:17 where you got indoctrinated, where somebody said something
01:20 to you, or was it a real challenge to deal
01:22 with a guy or something?
01:23 There's not too much chirping, honestly, in the field,
01:26 as I guess I'd expect it or whatever.
01:28 But no, I haven't had anybody come at me like that yet.
01:30 Has there been a moment where you beat somebody bad,
01:31 or got kind of left out?
01:32 ZTF, or anybody wants to--
01:34 Not that I can think of.
01:35 I haven't had that moment yet, exactly.
01:38 And besides you being the freshman that's playing,
01:40 you're also a local guy.
01:42 This team has become very transparent now.
01:46 And Westover's one of the few, and Ulumu-Alay is, too.
01:51 But you're one of those guys that kind of--
01:55 the local crowd here will be pushing for you.
01:59 Yeah, absolutely.
02:01 Tell me about that.
02:02 Yeah, I mean, I think being able to play for the hometown.
02:05 I have lots of people texting me each week,
02:09 saying people I haven't talked to in a while,
02:11 just let me know, good game, keep up
02:13 the good work and stuff.
02:14 So it definitely means a lot to be
02:15 able to play in front of the people
02:16 and in front of the state that I'm from.
