PBBM, lower house condemn fatal bombing incident in Marawi
Transcript
00:00 The President expressed indignation in no uncertain terms and vowed justice for the
00:04 slain and the wounded.
00:06 Meanwhile, most lower house Solons, especially those representing constituencies in the BARM,
00:12 pushed back on a proposal to declare martial law, but instead pleaded to ramp up the full
00:17 reconstruction of Marawi from the ashes of the 2017 war.
00:22 Our Mela Lesmoras tells us more.
00:27 President Ferdinand R. Marquez Jr. strongly denounced the fatal bombing incident at Damindanao
00:32 State University in Marawi City yesterday while also assuring that the government is
00:37 on top of the situation and helping the victims of the terrorist attack.
00:41 According to the chief executive, he already instructed the PNP and AFP to ensure the protection
00:47 and safety of our countrymen in Marawi City and additional security personnel are also
00:52 being deployed.
00:53 Earlier at the House of Representatives, lawmakers also condemned the heinous crime.
00:57 House Speaker Martin Numualdi said they are fully committed in extending immediate relief
01:02 and long-term aid to the affected residents.
01:04 While for House Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan, he firmly stated this cowardly attack
01:09 should not go unpunished.
01:12 Immediately after the incident, the TINGOG Partylis at the House Speaker's Office deployed
01:16 assistance to the victims and they are now coordinating with the Marawi LGU for other
01:20 kinds of aid to extend.
01:22 Earlier the House Ad Hoc Committee on Marawi Rehabilitation also conducted a hearing in
01:27 which the latest attack was also brought up.
01:29 "Very disappointing given the timeline given that it needs to be extended.
01:35 Even if you say, actually, this is the most expensive here, the money that was allotted
01:40 since the last administration.
01:42 But until now, many are not being provided.
01:46 The development in security is a big factor."
01:49 "This is the main reason why Speaker Martin Numualdi created the Ad Hoc Committee.
01:56 Because this administration wants to be more specific and determined and laser-point the
02:05 interventions that we will do."
02:07 But following the disturbing incident, is it high time to declare Marcelo in Mindanao
02:11 again?
02:12 "I think we should not resort to that because we do not want to cause unnecessary panic.
02:19 What we have to do is based on the experience that we accomplished after the Marawi siege,
02:24 we need to win the people's support.
02:28 We need to win the sympathies.
02:29 And by doing so, we do not only resort to military effort, we also need to invest more
02:36 on the civilian defense scheme or civilian defense intervention."
