Colonel Mortimer is travelling on the high seas in India when he receives a letter informing him his son is very ill. Returning home urgently he is puzzled at first when he finds his son in bed but seemingly fine. However, his wife tells him that he has sickened all the time he has been away and tormented by a wailing voice. But is it in the boy's imagination or something far more sinister at work?

Starring Jack Hawkins, Rachel Gurney, Mark Dignam, Henry Baltran, Jill Mae Meredith, John Laurie, Geoffrey Sumner, Derek Tansley, Molly Weir, Edmund Sulley and Debbie Bowen (best remembered for 1972's Emma), with introduction by David Buck. This was originally broadcast on ITV on February 19th 1966 as part of the Mystery and Imagination anthology series that ran from 1966 to 1970. Sadly only two episodes exist from the first series, and I only have this one by chance, saved from Mick's Nostalgia Channel before it disappeared on Youtube. It is also the last screen appearance by Jack Hawkins featuring his original voice before having his operation for throat cancer that would rob him of that wonderful fruity voice of his. I hope you enjoy it.
