Quiet As a Nun (1978) (Episode 1)
Part 1 of 6 of the TV mystery Quiet As a Nun (1978), from the Armchair Thriller series, starring Maria Aitken as Jemima Shore, a TV reporter who is called in to investigate the mysterious death of a nun at her old school convent after she is found starved to death in a tower. It is especially personal to Jemima as it was her old school friend, but as she begins her investigations she becomes more convinced that something far more sinister is behind her friend's death...
Out of all the series to come out of Armchair Thriller, this is the one that everyone remembers, and also introduced viewers to Jemima Shore (who later had her own short lived series in 1983, played by Patricia Hodge). The opening credits and music are memorably effective, but it also has a superb cast that includes David Burke, Renee Asherson, Brenda Bruce, James Laurenson, Margaret D'Arcy, Doran Godwin, Kate Binchy, plus a child cast including a young Patsy Kensit, Linda Slater (Susi from Grange Hill) and Michele Winstanley. Apologies for the quality of the picture, but it is from an old video recording. I wish I'd had the old adverts that went with it, but they must of been edited out to fit all the episodes on the tape.
