00:00 Hello, I'm Matt Hamer, Area Manager for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service.
00:04 I'm on scene at the former Super Skip site on Royal Port Avenue, Lancaster.
00:08 Firefighting operations continue at this large building fire
00:12 containing approximately 13,000 tonnes of commercial waste.
00:15 The building itself is structurally unsafe
00:17 and presents several hazards to emergency responders.
00:21 We are continuing to firefight and work with the Environment Agency
00:23 to mitigate any impacts to the environment from water runoff.
00:27 The seat of the fire is beneath large quantities of compact commercial waste
00:32 and pockets of fire can continue to smoulder deep within the piles for a long time.
00:37 As a result, the fire continues to produce a smoke plume
00:40 and residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed if they can smell smoke.
00:46 Several road closures are in place, including Europe away
00:49 and access to the industrial park is limited.
00:52 With emergency operations expected to continue for several days,
00:55 members of the public can assist by staying away from the area.
00:58 This is for their own safety and to avoid hampering emergency operations.
01:02 We continue to work with Lancaster City Council, the Environment Agency,
01:06 Lancashire Constabulary and the Lancashire County Council
01:09 to bring this incident to a safe conclusion as quickly as possible
01:12 and to keep disruption to local residents and businesses to a minimum.
01:16 I would like to thank residents and businesses for their continued support.
01:20 Thank you.
