00:00 and just put Australia on the map and he's given lots of coaches and lots of
00:05 players you know the opportunity to be able to you know have that experience or
00:10 go overseas and you know he's just setting the benchmark you know so it's
00:15 great for Australian football and all aspects of the game as well right from
00:20 the juniors grassroots all the way through to you know senior men and
00:23 senior women's really lifts the game in this country.
00:29 Just his overall aura I think he knew what he wanted he set the benchmark set
00:36 the standards and you know the players followed as well and the competition
00:40 obviously from the playing group as well drove everything. He had his style of play
00:44 from playing out from the back and high high press system as well so every
00:50 everybody knew their jobs and knew their roles and responsibilities and yeah and
00:54 we got it done. He always knew that he was going to be successful just a
00:58 down-to-earth guy though but had a great personality he got his message
01:03 through to the players and he trusted us in doing the job on the pitch. There was
01:08 good leaders all over the pitch you know you get Paul Tromboli, David Clarkson,
01:12 Kon Vucianis, Goran Woznoski, Michael Kisija you know there was there was big
01:17 players there at the time and all good people we all got along but mainly on
01:23 the pitch that was where it really counted and you know we would die for
01:25 each other. We went over and over everything that you know mainly patterns
01:29 of play and he kept training until it was done right as well so we we didn't
01:33 stop until he was happy with the methods. The way we played in the
01:39 way that Ange wanted us to play at the time again it was an exciting brand you
01:43 know everybody jumped on board we scored a lot of goals you know and it was
01:47 exciting to everybody who watched. I can you know remember in the grand final days
01:51 when you know he always did little things like little videos and stuff that
01:55 gave you inspiration and drive you know about family members or whatever it was
02:00 or past experiences or previous games about inspiration so you know he really
02:06 you know drove you to be at your best on the day and you know you'd go out there
02:11 wanting to wanting to die for him. Look at this club there's always pressure it
02:14 was always pressure at South Melbourne you know to to get results and to
02:19 continue on and and to go back to back was never an easy feat. The last 10-15
02:24 minutes we got on top of them and Johnny came and made a big impact. Going out in
02:30 front of that huge crowd at the American R and you know the atmosphere
02:33 unbelievable and you know look we weren't outdone by any stretch and you
02:38 know playing against those types of teams like Man United, Nkatha and Vasco
02:43 de Gama it was just a really good experience.
02:46 Nearly scored against Man United. Yeah yeah nah got close but not close enough and
02:52 yeah playing against those players is just a you know again going out playing
02:56 against the best in the world there's nothing better than than doing that.
03:00 I'm not a Tottenham supporter but like I still I want to follow those games and I
03:04 just want to follow Ange you know because of who he is. Do you think his
03:09 personality or his methods have changed from what you can see on the way through
03:13 or do you think he's pretty much the same guy? Nah I think he's pretty much
03:15 the same guy even you know just the way he presents himself and press
03:19 conferences and the way he talks and even after games and stuff like that
03:23 yeah he's just just the same guy good Aussie guy. He keeps his distance he's
03:28 not one of those guys who's always around the players all the time but
03:32 again that's that's the way he goes about it and look it's been very
03:37 successful. Are you surprised to see him where he is now? No I'm not nah yeah it's
03:42 great to see him you know on TV and all that sort of thing and you know I'm just
03:46 grateful that I had the opportunity and we all have the opportunity to work with
03:50 him in the early stages of his career and he's gone on to do bigger and better
03:55 things.
